This Dune article contains spoilers.
If the shocking ending of Dune: Part Two left you wanting more, you can actually watch Dune: Part Three right now. Kind of. Although Denis Villeneuve hasn’t fully committed to a movie adaptation of Dune Messiah, there is an often overlooked filmed version of this Dune sequel out there right now. This isn’t a bootleg or a fan film either, but The Sci-Fi Channel’s excellent Frank Herbert’s Children of Dune miniseries. This very real adaptation of Dune Messiah even stars several major Hollywood stars, including James McAvoy and Susan Sarandon, as well as Star Trek legend Alice “The Borg Queen” Krige.
If you’ve slept on this particular Dune sequel, now is possibly the best time to watch it. Here’s what to know about Frank Herbert’s Children of Dune, why it’s great, and how to watch it.

Special announcement: as a special culinary bonus, all ten of this month’s Don’t-Miss Indies are, in fact, pumpkin spiced. Go ahead and lick your laptop or smartphone glass to confirm. No? Hm. Looks like that WordPress update hasn’t pushed through yet. Regardless, the spirit of Autumnal renewal (picaresque decay?) presently fills the October air, heralding the onset of Awards Season and its bountiful horn full of cinematic goodies. Starting here…

A beginning is a most delicate time — especially if you’re about to become the most famous historian in all of galactic history. Dune: Part Two will feature several characters who did not appear in Dune: Part One, and perhaps the most prominent is the person who will make sure that the story of Muad’Dib survives for all time. As Princess Irulan, Florence Pugh will make her mark on what is possibly the most complicated and pivotal character in all of Dune. It’s been 20 years since we’ve seen Princess Irulan preparing to do the thing she’s so good at — writing actual books in the Dune universe.
In the new trailer for Dune: Part Two, we see Irulan recording her notes about whether or not Paul Atreides is still alive on Arrakis. What we don’t see in the trailer are the two things that will define...

Emma Corrin – “The Crown”
Corrin has been cast as Lady Diana Spencer in Season 4 of Netflix’s royal drama and has already been spotted dressed in the princess’ famous pink polka dot dress and matching hat. The new season will premiere in November.

2036 Origin Unknown or Origin Unknown is an upcoming sci-fi thriller. From director and VFX Master Hasraf Dulull, Origin Unknown takes place in the near future, close to Mars. Here, a remarkable object promises to unlock a universal mystery. This title stars sci-fi veteran Katie Sackhoff, along with Ray Fearon, Steven Cree and Julie Cox. A teaser trailer, for the film, was released in 2016. Now, the film is slated for its first home entertainment showing, via Mongrel Media. The short synopsis and teaser reveal very little. More of a sci-fi mystery, the story involves a manned mission to Mars. A deadly crash takes place. Then, something beneath Mars' dunes lays a threat to all of humanity. Mongrel Media will show 2036 Origin Unknown (as Origin Unknown) this Summer. The release date is scheduled for June 12th, in Canada. France is also set to reveal the film's mystery, at a future, unannounced date.

Shadow Of The Sword
Stars: Steven Berkoff, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Julie Cox, Patrick Godfrey, Eddie Marsan | Written by Steve Attridge, Susanne Freund | Directed by Simon Aeby
When writing a story about history it seems that the easy thing to do is look at religion. It’s a subject that has created such division in society it just screams out plenty of themes for a writer to use and manipulate into an entertaining story. Shadow of the Sword is a perfect example of this.
It takes a time in history when the church was all powerful in Europe and examines how corruption and greed can destroy not only the churches credibility but also the lives and friendships of the people it believes it controls.
Set in the times of the inquisitions, Shadow of the Sword looks at the friendship of two orphan boys Martin and Georg. One is chosen by the church...

In keeping with Big Finish’s addition of Mary Shelly (Julie Cox) to the 8th Doctor’s (Paul McGann) Tardis, we have something of a horror story, involving witches, religious zealotry and murder. So, basically a Tuesday for the Tardis crew.
Our story begins with Mary saving the lives of two teenage twins from a strange, monstrous creature living inside a recently unsealed well. The twins, Finicia (Alix Wilton Regan) and Lucien (Kevin Trainor) wind up inside the Tardis, and then the Tardis winds up in 17th century England. They’re still all in the same village, but a different time, and yet a place where the twins are recognized.
It turns out they’ve arrived during a witch scare, and a local woman, Agnes (Serena Evans), is about to be burned for witchcraft. She’s surprisingly sanguine about her upcoming fate, but before the Doctor...

Back in 2005, the new series of Doctor Who, aired a fairly good, notable episode called “Dalek”. It focused on a single dalek, retrieved by an egotistical man who wants to use it to his own ends, who is isolated from the rest of his “species”, believes himself to be the only survivor of his race, and is pitied by the Doctor’s fairly new, female companion.
“The Silver Turk,” one of the most recent audios by Big Finish, is a fairly good episode. It focuses on a single cyberman, retrieved by an egotistical man who wants to use it to his own ends, who is isolated from the rest of his “species”, believes himself to be the only survivor of his race that’s currently on Earth, and is pitied by the Doctor’s new female companion.
So, yeah. It’s got that vibe going on.

Welcome to the first of my reviews of Big Finish’s audio plays! For those of you who don’t know, these are (usually), full cast audio adventures based on various properties. They have ones for Dark Shadows, Highlander, Stargate, Sherlock Holmes, and, relevant to this review, Doctor Who.
Their Doctor Who line features past Doctors and their companions. So far we’ve had the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th Doctors and beginning next year, we get adventures with the 4th Doctor, along with, at various points, Leela, Romana and K-9. Fun times!
This particular story is a lead-in to several current and upcoming Big Finish audios featuring the 8th Doctor (Paul McGann), and his new companion, a young woman by the name of Mary Shelly (Julie Cox).
Our story begins in a Swiss chalet in 1816, where several people, including Lord Byron (Robert Forknall), Percy Shelly (Anthony Glennon), and Mary Shelly,...

Another week in October, another bounty crop of horror DVDs and Blu-rays. This week we have home entertainment from recent theatrical releases of nightmares of the mind as well as re-releases of classic and campy horror, all with boatloads of extras.
Then there are other horror titles that are being re-released on Blu-ray or in packs for double dipping. On top of that, horror offerings from Asia, past seasons of TV shows, manga, novels, and even video games are all vying for our pocketbooks. And we still have four more weeks of October to go.
Next year October needs to begin in August.

Martin shows up in Julia Eagleton’s (Anna Massey) Oxford, England home -- a home that is decorated with noteworthy mathematical artifacts such as a replica of an Enigma machine and a photograph of Alan Turing.
