Disney’s reputation is notoriously squeaky clean.
The beloved company has provided family-friendly fun for decades, with live-action favorites and animated classics spanning back to the 1930s.
As a powerful force in the industry and one of Hollywood’s biggest studios, the company expanded its reach over the years with film distribution companies, like Touchstone Pictures, Miramax, Searchlight Pictures and Buena Vista Distribution.
The movies often featured more adult themes than one would expect from the company. Because they are published by subsidiaries, the titles are all only indirectly Disney-related – but they still fall under the major studio’s umbrella anyway.

The arc of Robin Williams' career has always been a fun trajectory to follow. Right out of the gate, Williams had his mainstream movie career briefly stymied by the financial disappointment and critical failure of Robert Altman's "Popeye" in 1980, only his second film. He clawed back through the 1980s, appearing in modestly successful comedy films before exploding back onto the scene in 1987 with Barry Levinson's "Good Morning, Vietnam," a biopic of American wartime DJ Adrian Cronauer. Williams played Cronauer as a very Robin Williams-like comedian who took to the Armed Forced Radio Service airwaves in 1965 Saigon to read news reports to the troops and to spin music. He took the opportunity to tell raunchy jokes, play raucous rock records, and generally be irreverent; his stuffed-shirt military superiors popped their monocles at his somewhat blue humor.

The film career of Robin Williams took a few years to take off, if you'll forgive the Peter Pan pun right away. Having established a name for himself on the stand-up comedy circuit, and with a high-profile role in 1978's "Mork & Mindy," Williams made his starring debut in Robert Altman's unappealingly odd 1980 film adaptation of "Popeye." Next, Williams starred in "The World According to Garp," a near-surreal adaptation of a John Irving novel. It wouldn't be until 1987 that Williams would have a proper hit in Barry Levinson's "Good Morning, Vietnam," a biopic of the wartime DJ Adrian Cronauer. In Cronauer, Williams...

If you remember anything about the movie Good Morning Vietnam then you really need to look into the life and times of Adrian Cronauer, who was the inspiration behind the movie. While Robin Williams did a great job of inspiring the troops, sometimes at his own risk, Cronauer was the man that inspired someone enough to give the movie a chance. Born in Pittsburgh, Cronauer had a love affair with broadcasting that started at the age of 12 and saw him as a guest for the children’s amateur hour in Pittsburgh. Eventually he would attend the University of Pittsburgh where

Founding Fathers: “Drunk History”
Season 2, Episode 8: Thomas Jefferson and John Adams Had Beef
The premise behind “Drunk History” is simple: What if your history teacher preached the most interesting aspects of history, but did it after finishing off too many IPAs before class started? By far one of the best segments happens during the second episode of Season 2, where Patrick Walsh struggles and slurs his way through the story of how lifelong friends and founding fathers Thomas Jefferson and John Adams became bitter enemies over the course of the 1800 presidential election. The 1987 comedy-drama Good Morning, Vietnam was a very unconventional hit movie. A war film, and a hugely comedic one, it remains most remembered, not unfairly, for being the breakout movie role for Robin Williams, seizing his moment and his day with incredible impact.
Williams, by this stage of his career, was already hugely popular on television, courtesy of Mork & Mindy. But the genesis of the movie that would ignite his film career actually lay back to even before then, in 1979. That’s when the real-life Adrian Cronauer, on whose story the film is based, pitched a sitcom based around his experiences as DJ in the Vietnam War. It got the interest of agent Larry Brezner, who bought an option on the story. But television networks...

The GI’s love his style but the commanders aren’t so thrilled with his comedy. It was August 11, 2014. The theater was full with an advance screening of The Giver starring Jeff Bridges and Meryl Streep. The red carpet event was live-streamed prior to the showing as stars from the film flooded in and entered the New York City party while we, in Knoxville, Tenn., gazed at the screen.
I checked my phone for the time and came across a message on the screen.
“Actor Robin Williams found dead at his home. He was 63.”
A friend put it best when he said that hearing the news of Williams’s passing surprised him with grief.
It did the same for me.
Now, to this point, Robin Williams was just another face (or voice) on the screen to me. An actor who had given life to Genie in Aladdin, the main character of Flubber, and was Mrs. Doubtfire. Nothing of note, but fun most of the time.

What's in Netflix's '80s grab bag? Swoony Merchant-Ivory films; a trio of John Hughes romantic comedies; early films with Sean Penn and Matt Dillon; Oscar-winning turns by Meryl Streep, Jodie Foster and Daniel Day-Lewis; and a few classics you already know by heart.

It's almost September, which means a whole new slew of titles on Netflix! August proved pretty lucrative on the quality title front, but it looks as though September it's going to blow the rundown out of the water.
TV takes spotlight this month, with the latest full seasons of "The Walking Dead," "New Girl," "The League," "The Blacklist," "Arrow," "Bones," and "Parks and Recreation" primed and ready for streaming before their fall premieres. And fans still mourning the loss of "How I Met Your Mother" (in more ways than one) can rewatch the ninth and final season to their heart's content. Ah, memories. Showtime's recently departed "Californication" can be seen in its entirety (Seasons 1 -7) as well, starting September 1. That's a lot of TV.

The death of Robin Williams has been publicised massively over the last number of days, a shocking loss to the film industry, Williams was a beloved performer who had many fans, and so obviously there has been an outpouring of emotion since he passed away. I was a fan of Robin Williams and as a fan I have my favourites in terms of his library of films and television, the top of the heap being the 1987 comedy-drama, Good Morning, Vietnam, which I will be reviewing here, in both a tribute to the man himself, but also as a way to talk about one of my personal favourite comedy drama films and one I revisit every year or two and always enjoy.

In the short time since Robin Williams passed away, you’ve probably learned more about him than you ever expected. From the wonderful story Norm MacDonald told via Twitter, to all the improvisation that became the roles he played, to his altruistic efforts throughout his life, to statement after statement that he was a comedic genius with film roles, routines, and more offered as evidence.
You can now find clips of his best roles, moments within those roles, sudden cover bits when Ted Talks suffered technical difficulties, and list after list of his best movies, lesser-known movies, greatest hits, favorite recipes, and everything else you can imagine.
I don’t usually go in for things like tributes to celebrities who die, but this one is a little more personal to me, and there seems to be part of the conversation that’s missing. Sure, Robin Williams was hilarious, almost to...

This is, I would suspect, the closest you're ever going to see to me losing it on camera completely. I guess I shouldn't have been surprised when there was a Robin Williams question, since it's still so fresh and so raw for so many people, but I couldn't have known just how hard it would be to talk about him. I mean, I have stared at the blinking cursor on my blank document page for almost two days now, grappling with one question: how in the hell do you even remotely begin to sum up someone as huge as Robin Williams? We could start from the personal angle. I could tell you about the occasional e-mails I got from him when I was at Ain't It Cool, or the...

While his family, friends and fans begin the mourning process, let’s take a look at ten of Mr. Williams’ greatest characters throughout his long and successful career.

Robin Williams dead. The words don't compute. His mind was never still. His humor was infectious. His kindness, unstinting. Once, when he phoned my home, my then-five-year-old son took the call. I didn't know who it was. I just heard my son laughing uncontrollably. Robin was doing the voices from all my kid's favorite cartoons. That's who he was. Giving. Wanting to please.
Sometimes, when Robin wasn't on, his mood could swing precipitously. As much as you felt his humor, you also sensed a sadness that went deep. You sensed...

With the news of Robin Williams’ shocking death Monday, the world lost a wonderful performer with a rich and diverse career. He made his name on his zany comedies and bananas stand-up and won an Oscar for his dramatic departure, but with over 100 acting credits to his name in nearly 40 years, some of his finest work that shows his range as an actor, along with his tenderness and charm as an everyman star, doesn’t even begin to show up in films like Good Will Hunting, Aladdin, Dead Poets Society or (oh boy) Mrs. Doubtfire. As tribute to this late great, Sound on Sight has compiled a list of some underrated, under-seen and under appreciated performances throughout his career. It’s work that characterizes Williams’ broadly comedic signature as well as his darkly dramatic depth, but most importantly, as his wife Susan Schneider put it, “the countless moments of joy...

Robin Williams has died at the age of 63. The Hollywood star had more than 100 acting credits to his name, and although he'll be largely remembered for his comic roles, looking back through his career it's quickly evident that he was just as talented when it came to drama.
Digital Spy takes a look back at 10 incredible roles, from Good Morning, Vietnam to World's Greatest Dad, below:
1. Good Morning, Vietnam (1987)
One of Williams's earliest and most memorable roles on the big screen came in Barry Levinson's Vietnam war comedy, in which he played radio DJ Adrian Cronauer. Newly appointed to the Armed Forces Radio Service in Saigon, the anarchic Cronauer alienates his military superiors but endears himself to soldiers and colleagues thanks to his irreverent humour and insistence on reporting censored news.
2. Dead Poets Society (1989)
There's a reason why the Walt Whitman line 'O Captain! My Captain!" has played a...

I didn’t see Robin Williams‘ attempt at a new sitcom, CBS’ The Crazy Ones. I didn’t want to. I didn’t want to think that the great Robin was, at only 62, already making the trip back to weekly TV half-hours after such a stellar, Oscar-winning career in films and such a bright, unhinged light on comedy stages for all of his career. It’s just too constricting for this kind of talent. It’s even sadder to think the show got cancelled after one season, a failure that must have been hard to take. No, my most recent memories of Robin Williams are on the big screen, where he seemed to be heading for a place of renewal, not only as the funnyman everyone knew, but really a fine dramatic actor. In this year’s The Face Of Love he played a supporting role as a man heartbreakingly...

Mr. and Mrs. Robin Williams are slow dancing. The time: a winter afternoon. The place: a photographer's studio in the Chelsea section of New York. The music: high-decibel funk. Everybody else in the studio is abuzz — adjusting lights, fussing with props, running back and forth from the kitchen with sushi. Still, Williams and his wife, Marsha, keep coming together in these quick, sweet tableaux. It's strange to see the thirty-nine-year-old actor and comedian with his guard down...

The Movie Pool tunes in to the new Blu-ray of the Robin Williams classic Good Morning Vietnam!
The Set-up
Disc jockey Adrian Cronauer (Robin Williams) turns Vietnam War-era Saigon upside down with his playlist of rock and roll and outrageous brand of humor.
Directed by: Barry Levinson
The Delivery The classic 1987 Robin Williams comedy Good Morning Vietnam goes high-definition in its first-ever Blu-ray release. Williams himself has had a hit-or-miss history on film (let's not discuss Rv or Father's Day), but under the right circumstances, he is Oscar-worthy. Here, director Barry Levinson not only showcases Williams' talents, he crafts a great story around him as well.
The film holds up surprisingly well, considering the film was once criticized for being a comedy about Vietnam. The movie never pulls punches or gets political, even when the story turns serious. Levinson keeps Williams perfectly balanced with the rest of the cast -...

For over three decades, funny man Robin Williams has enjoyed a very lucrative career. His reputation as a wild and erratic comedian has pushed him into superstardom and his talents even occasionally transfer over to dramatic roles. His first shift into drama was a smooth and almost seamless one. It occurred in 1987 with director Barry Levinson’s bittersweet wartime dramedy Good Morning, Vietnam. In it, Williams earned his first Academy Award nomination playing real-life military disc jockey Adrian Cronauer. This terrific film is now out on Blu-ray for its 25th anniversary and if you are a fan of Robin Williams or just good movies in general, then I highly recommend checking this one out.

Goooooooood Morning Vietnaaaaam! You have to yell it. I.ll wait. Well, Robin Williams. breakout performance makes the transition to high def with a 25th anniversary edition. Not that there.s much new to celebrate the occasion. 1965, Adrian Cronauer (Robin Williams) arrives in Saigon to work as a DJ for Armed Forces Radio. He.s picked up by Pvt. Garlick (Forest Whitaker) but when he arrives at his new job he rubs his superiors, Lt. Hauk (Bruno Kirby) and Sgt. Dickerson (J.T. Walsh), the wrong way. However, he is a hit with the audiences who eat up his comedic patter and Brigadier General Taylor (Noble Willingham) is also a fan so he stays on the air. His love life...

Chicago – I worry that future generations will only know Robin Williams for his late-career missteps like “Old Dogs,” one of the most truly reprehensible excuses for a film in the last ten years. Believe it or not kiddies, there once was a time when the man formerly known as Mork was one of our most interesting actors, a guy who spoke for creative freedom and starred in a string of critical hits, two of which were recently released on Blu-ray.
Blu-ray Rating: 4.0/5.0
Barry Levinson’s “Good Morning, Vietnam” was a true breakthrough for Williams, an actor who had been reasonably respected for (in films like “The World According to Garp”) but still looked like he could go either way — more Steve Guttenberg than Tom Hanks. “Vietnam” gave us an actor willing to take chances, a larger than life personality with a mission. It clearly involved a subject matter and freedom...

Directed by Barry Levinson, Good Morning, Vietnam was inspired by the real life story of Adrian Cronauer, an anti-establishment disc jockey for the Armed Forces Radio Service who served during the Vietnam war. Starring Robin Williams as Cronauer, the film certainly takes it’s liberties with the true story behind Cronauer’s tale, but still manages to deliver a heartfelt movie about the emotional experiences felt by those who bared witness to the war from a non-combat viewpoint.
The film follows the comedic exploits of Adrian Cronauer (Robin Williams), who proves to be extremely popular amongst the soldiers for embracing both rock and roll music and, more importantly, creating levity for troops facing the horrors of war on a daily basis. As Cronauer brushes closer and closer to the harsh realities created by the conflict, he begins to ruffle the feathers of his superiors by addressing his concerns and expressing...

Here's a great video compliation of 150 famous movie lines and catch-phrases that we've come to know and love over the years. The great thing about movie quotes for film geeks like myself, is that whenever the moment presents itself we can always bust out a movie quote to throw into a conversation for a good laugh.
I will say most of these quotes are obvious, but it's still fun. The video below was created by David Balboa. Enjoy!
Here’s a list of each quote from the video, and who said it, from Balboa's blog Exophrine.
“Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice!”

- Lydia, summoning Beetlejuice “It’s showtime!”

- Beetlejuice, being summoned. “They’re heeeere!”
- Poltergeist
- Carol Anne Freeling, notifying her parents of the spirits present “Hey you guys!”
- The Goonies
- Sloth, calling the attention of the children he’s about to save “Good morning,...

Movie quotes are the currency by which we pay respect to our favorite films. We grab them out of our pockets at the most appropriate, or inappropriate, times, adding our love of a movie to an advancing conversation. Sometimes these quotes are insignificant lines you and your friends hold near to your hearts but, most of the time, these lines are the ones we all know and love. David Balboa, who runs a blog called Exophrine, edited together 150 of lines and catch phrases just like that into one, cool little video. Included are such diverse films as The Princess Bride, Rocky IV, Aliens, Toy Story, Die Hard, Citizen Kane and many more. Check it out, as well as the full rundown of what's in it, after the jump. Thanks to Balboa and his Exophrine blog [1] for this awesome video. And here's the list of each quote, and who said it,...

There's a new sheriff in the radio booth. The oft-mimicked and irreplaceable Christopher Walken recently tried his hand at radio, filling in for NPR's Leonard Lopate the other day. There's no cowbell, nor strange monologues about wristwatches, but it's completely delightful. This is 100% earnest Walken, chatting with friends and a slew of other guests, namely: Tony winners Jack O'Brien and Richard Easton, Zoe Kazan (Me and Orson Welles, The Private Lives of Pippa Lee), Eddie Izzard in a quick drive-by, dancers Jacques D'Amboise and Alex Shimizu, and Chef Lidia Bastianich and her mother, who turn out to be childhood friends of Walken's, from his days in Queens.

Watching General Karl Eikenberry—Obama’s direct line to Kabul—testify today before all the white-haired members of the Senate Armed Services Committee, I half expected him to break out a gut-busting, stream-of-consciousness comedy routine that belied the horrors of war. Then I realized the reason: his uncanny resemblance to airman and Afrs disc jockey Adrian Cronauer, of Good Morning, Vietnam.
