- Nelson de la Rosa was born on September 6, 1968 in Bayaguana, Monte Plata, Dominican Republic. He was an actor, known for The Island of Dr. Moreau (1996), Cross Mission (1988) and Rat Man (1988). He was married to Jennifer Diloné. He died on October 22, 2006 in Providence, Rhode Island, USA.

- After the avid Red Sox fan was introduced to then-Boston ace Pedro Martinez by a mutual friend, the two Dominican men became friends. De la Rosa became a regular presence in the team's clubhouse in the playoffs of the 2004 season, in which the Red Sox won their first World Series in 86 years.
- Although he was certified by the Guinness Book of World Records of the world's smallest man in 1990, it was not a true fact. Gul Mohammed (1957-1997) of Indian was measured at 1'10½" in 1990. A more recent recordholder is even shorter: Lin Yu-Cheh (b. 1973) of Taiwan, who was measured at 2'2½".
- When he was first examined in 1987, he weighed 15 lbs, his chest was 17½", and his waist 16". By the time of the filming of The Island of Dr. Moreau (1996) he weighed 22 lbs.
