Jean de Lattre de Tassigny was born on February 2, 1889 in Mouilleron-en-Pareds, Vendée, France. He was married to Simonne Calary de Lamazière, . He died on January 11, 1952 in Paris, France.

During WW2 he was general of the French Army, commanding the army which
liberated Southern France. After the war he was promoted Marechal de
France, being the last officer to reach this position.
