It’s a mild debate as to whether it’s harder to lose a legend in show business than to watch them fade away, but there are times when both can be equally detrimental to the fans and to those closest to said legends. Shirley Douglas is a name that might be very well known to those of her generation and those that have grown up hearing her name. Dino-Ray Ramos of Deadline has more to say on this topic. One might also be knowledgeable enough to recognize that she’s the mother of the famous actor Kiefer Sutherland, as she was married

The actor and singer-songwriter, 51, on being a twin, playing his first gig and growing up in a political family
Breaking your little toe really hurts. I’ve broken my ankle, my wrist, my elbow, ribs, collarbone, my kneecaps, most of those filming 24 – but the most painful was my pinkie toe. There was a bomb sequence where things were exploding all around me and I was a bit slow getting to my mark and I got hit. It doesn’t sound very butch but it made my eyes water.
Do what you want. That was the single most important thing I learned from my parents, because they did. My dad [Donald], as an actor, went where the work was, my mother [Shirley Douglas] was an actress and a political activist. The choices they made were maybe not the best choices as a parent but they were the best for their lives. So...

Hemingway House is okay, I assure Donald Sutherland, having just read an update online earlier that morning.
His home in Miami Beach is okay too, he tells me, as we sit down to discuss his movie The Leisure Seeker at the Toronto International Film Festival.
The day before our interview, and just two days after the film that follows senior couple Ella and John (Sutherland and Helen Mirren) on one last road trip down the Florida coast premiered in Toronto, Hurricane Irma beat down on much of the same territory covered in the film — lovely long roads, pristine beaches, and the couple’s ultimate destination, Ernest Hemingway’s old house on Key West.

The two play a father and son in the new western Forsaken. "Working with him is something I have wanted to do for 30 years," Kiefer tells People. The 24 star says because most of his father's films were R rated, he had to wait until he was 18 to see them. Then, in one weekend, he sat down and watched as many as he possibly could. Donald Sutherland wants to stir revolt. A real revolt. A youth-led uprising against injustice that will overturn the Us as we know it and usher in a kinder, better way. "I hope that they will take action because it's getting drastic in this country." Drone strikes. Corporate tax dodging. Racism. The Keystone oil pipeline. Denying food stamps to "starving Americans". It's all going to pot. "It's not right. It's not right."
Millennials need awakening from slumber. "You know the young people of this society have not moved in the last 30 years." With the exception of Occupy, a minority movement, passivity reigns. "They have been consumed with telephones." The voice hardens. "Tweeting."

Kiefer Sutherland was inspired to take up acting after witnessing an amazing performance by his mother Shirley Douglas when he was a teenager.
The 24 star had no interest in a screen career when he was growing up, because he didn't want to follow in his mother and father Donald Sutherland's footsteps.
But watching Douglas in a stage play when he was a teenager turned Sutherland's entire world on its head, and he became obsessed with acting.
He tells U.K. TV show This Morning, "I don't think either of my parents wanted me to be an actor, and because they were so successful I didn't want to be an actor. But I saw her when I was 13 and she gave a performance that was so incredible that somewhere between the first and second acts, I forgot it was my mother.
"I realised it has a powerful effect and that sparked an interest, and I fell in love with it. It took a lot for me to finally commit and say 'This is what I want to do'."...
