Patrick Stewart was determined not to return to the Star Trek universe after his appearance in the film, Star Trek: Nemesis. He conveyed this to Alex Kurtzman when the latter met with him to pitch a series based on his character Jean-Luc Picard. Kurtzman brought along novelist Kirsten Beyer and screenwriter James Duff to convince Stewart that there was a lot to revisit in Picard’s character.

After much consideration, Stewart agreed to the series Star Trek: Picard, but not before setting a few conditions that the creators had to follow stringently. These conditions may have also sealed the fate of a potential fourth season of the series.

The CW is spicing up its lineup with an exciting twist on the classic Sherlock Holmes saga. They’re rolling out ‘Sherlock & Daughter,’ a fresh take that pairs the iconic detective with an unexpected partner – his possible daughter. David Thewlis steps into Sherlock’s shoes, while Blu Hunt plays Amelia, the young American who might just be his offspring. After the mysterious murder of her mother, Amelia discovers her father could be the legendary sleuth himself. Together, they dive into a whirlwind of global conspiracies and personal mysteries.
According to Deadline, the series is not just about crime-solving. It’s about the dynamic between two very different characters thrown together by fate. Dougray Scott adds to the excitement as Moriarty, Holmes’ arch-nemesis, ensures the stakes are always high. ‘Sherlock & Daughter’ isn’t your typical detective show; it’s about family, mystery, and the clash of cultures.

The CW has given a series order to “Sherlock & Daughter,” a scripted series starring David Thewlis.
With Thewlis as Sherlock Holmes, the series puts the detective out of his comfort zone, mysteriously unable to investigate a sinister case without risking the lives of his closest friends. He then meets Amelia (Blu Hunt), an American who, after her mother’s mysterious murder, learns that Sherlock may be her missing father. Despite wildly different backgrounds and attitudes, the pair must work together to solve a global conspiracy, crack her mother’s murder and find out for sure if she really is Sherlock’s daughter. The cast also includes Dougray Scott as Holmes’ nemesis, Moriarty.
Brendan Foley created “Sherlock & Daughter” while James Duff showruns. They both executive produce alongside Karine Martin, Chris Philip, Peter Gerwe, Dominic Barlow, Ivan Dunleavy and Escapade Media. Micah War Dog Wright and Shelly Goldstein both serve as writiners.

In addition to picking up a pair of game shows, The CW has ordered the new original scripted drama Sherlock & Daughter starring David Thewlis (Fargo).
The mystery thriller puts Sherlock Holmes (Thewlis) out of his comfort zone, mysteriously unable to investigate a sinister case without risking the lives of his closest friends. Enter young American Amelia. After her mother’s mysterious murder, she learns that her missing father might be the legendary detective. Dougray Scott (Batwoman) stars as Holmes’ nemesis, Moriarty.
“The CW continues to expand its original programming lineup with quality scripted and unscripted series, based on IP that everyone knows, that encourage co-viewing across generations of fans,” said Brad Schwartz, The CW’s President of Entertainment.

Patrick Stewart was finished playing Captain Picard. The acclaimed actor had already played the character in 176 episodes of "Star Trek: The Next Generation," in one episode of "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine," and in four feature films, all between 1987 and 2002. Stewart hung up his uniform and was eager to take on other acting challenges. Indeed, the 2002 film "Star Trek: Nemesis" was a notorious bomb, and the last remaining series, "Star Trek: Enterprise" struggled through its final years before being canceled in 2005. For all intents and purposes, "Star Trek" was at an end, and Stewart could, if he so desired, merely reminisce at "Trek" conventions and stay in contact with the old castmates in his contacts folder.

Starlings Entertainment and StoryFirst have partnered for a drama and family entertainment development fund, with Starlings also taking a financial stake in StoryFirst.
The joint venture will enable the companies to mutual select drama, family entertainment and possibly even non-scripted projects currently in development to move forward.
As part of the deal, which was announced by Starlings’ CEO and executive producer Karine Martin and StoryFirst’s founder Peter Gerwe (pictured above), they also announced two projects: the first is “The Manager,” a melodic look at the music industry in the 1970s and ’80s inspired by (and featuring the music of) Eric Clapton and other artists of the era. The second is murder mystery “Sherlock’s Daughter,” in which the famous detective’s fictional daughter sets about tracking down her dad.

Los Angeles-based Secuoya Studios is developing a new series version of “El Zorro” in collaboration with John Gertz – founder of Zorro Productions and a producer on “The Mask of Zorro” and “The Legend of Zorro” movies titles – along with former Sony execs Andy Kaplan and Jesús Torres and Miami-based Secuoya Studios exec Sergio Pizzolante. Secuoya Studios will serve as the series’ lead producer.
“This is one of the biggest IPs, not only in the Spanish-speaking territories, but the world,” said David Martínez, Secuoya director of fiction, adding that the new version will update the franchise’s characters with reference to modern times and include a “large female presence.” Scripts, by Spain’s Carlos Portela (“Velvet Collection”), are completed.
“El Zorro” marks the banner project at Secuoya Studios, which was introduced to investors at an online presentation Thursday hosted by James Costos, the company’s L.A-based president.

We’re heading into Emmy Awards season, and CBS is starting up its “For Your Consideration” campaign on many of its shows. Trek fans will be pleased to know that the network is pushing hard on Star Trek: Picard, which aired its smash hit debut season earlier this year. Fan and critical response was positive for the bold Next Generation sequel series, and CBS is hoping to turn that into a swathe of Emmy nominations for the cast and crew.
As well as suggesting the show for Outstanding Drama Series, the campaign to get the one and only Sir Patrick Stewart a nom for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series is leading the way. Stewart has received four Emmy nominations over his illustrious career, but never for Trek, so it would be a big deal if he could get some recognition for Picard.

As well as the variety of The Next Generation stars who have returned alongside Patrick Stewart for Star Trek: Picard, the CBS All Access show has also brought back Seven of Nine from Voyager. Last seen in 2001, Seven had never crossed over with other corners of the Trek universe before, so this was a big deal for fans. Not only that, but there was a legitimate story reason for her to feature, too, what with both her and Picard being ex-Borgs who’ve reclaimed their humanity.
Across her two appearances so far in the series, episodes 4 and 5, we got to see how different Seven – or, to use her human name, Annika – has become over the past 20 years. In a tragic place after the death of her surrogate son, Seven is fueled by a thirst for vengeance when Picard encounters her. It’s a far cry from the very regimented, controlled woman of Voyager.

What’s to say about “Picard” that a) can be said, given this review is a spoiler-free zone, and b) needs to be said, given CBS All Access is ostensibly reviving one of the “Star Trek” franchise’s most-utilized captains, and thus rebooting one of the fandom’s favorite shows? Of course, the question can apply directly to the man himself: What’s left to say about Picard that hasn’t been said in seven seasons of great television, four films of vastly disparate quality, and innumerable appearances in “Star Trek”-related stories?

CBS All Access dropped a trailer for its highly anticipated new series “Star Trek: Picard” at New York Comic Con on Saturday, featuring a look at the former captain fighting the test of time in a Federation where he is no longer welcome.
The trailer opens in picturesque vineyard, with Data painting a cryptic portrait of a cloaked figure standing on the edge of a stormy sea. When a pensive-looking Picard slowly approaches, Data asks, “Would you like to finish it, Captain?”
Picard responds, “I don’t know how.”
Flash cuts of a space fight abruptly end with Picard seemingly waking from a dream. What follows is the captain determined to stand up for the Federation and “what it should still represent,” only to be harshly told, “This is no longer your house, Jean-Luc. Go home!”

Ahead of its debut at Comic-Con next weekend, CBS All Access released another look at Patrick Stewart’s return as his “Star Trek” Captain Jean-Luc Picard.
As shown in the brief teaser earlier this year, Picard has left Star Fleet behind following an unknown event. CBS has kept quiet about character and plot details, sharing only that the series will see Stewart reprise his role as the “Star Trek: The Next Generation” captain in “the next chapter of his life.”
As shown in the teaser and this image, this now includes a career as a vintner as the Picard family winery. The teaser only showed his face for a split-second, so the key art, which you can see below, represents the first full shot CBS All Access has put out.

CBS All Access released a poster and a teaser trailer for the highly anticipated “Star Trek: Picard” on Thursday, which also marks the 25th anniversary of the “Star Trek: The Next Generation” finale episode. This is the first glimpse of Patrick Stewart reprising the beloved role.
Stewart, 78, helmed the USS Enterprise as Picard for seven seasons of “The Next Generation” and four movies. Despite assimilation by the Borg and other unsavory encounters with aliens and humans alike, Picard was a steadfast and moral figure, driven by duty but often alone, as he is the last of the Picards. Amazon Prime Video has taken the global rights to the forthcoming untitled Star Trek Jean-Luc Picard series. The Svod will air the Sir Patrick Stewart-fronted series in more than 200 countries and territories outside of the U.S. and Canada.
The major deal, which was struck by CBS Studios International, comes as CBS All Access’ original Star Trek spin-off airs on Amazon rival Netflix.
The show will air on Amazon globally within 24 hours of its U.S. premiere. It will see Stewart reprising his role as Jean-Luc Picard, which he played for seven seasons on Star Trek: Next Generation, and will follow Picard in the next chapter of his life.
The deal is a boon for the CBS All Access series. Former CBS Chairman and CEO Les Moonves said that Netflix’s global deal for Star Trek: Discovery in 2016 meant that the show was “100% paid for” before it aired on CBS’ own Svod service.

Amazon has grabbed international rights to CBS All Access’ “Star Trek”-branded series revolving around Patrick Stewart’s Jean-Luc Picard character.
Amazon has picked up the show from CBS Television Studios in more than 200 territories outside the U.S. and Canada. There’s no word yet on a premiere date for the show. Amazon will have episodes of the show within 24 hours of the U.S. debut, under a multi-year commitment.
The decision to sell the show to Amazon indicates that CBS will not hold back its premium content outside the U.S. even as it looks to build out the CBS All Access subscriber base on a global basis. CBS has wholly owned streaming platforms operating in the U.S., Canada and Australia. But with a limited international footprint at present, CBS likely couldn’t afford to down what was undoubtedly a rich offer from Amazon.

Salvation star Santiago Cabrera is reuniting with Alex Kurtzman’s Secret Hideout and CBS Studios for a co-starring role opposite Patrick Stewart in CBS All Access’ upcoming Star Trek series that will explore the next chapter of Jean-Luc Picard. Blindspot alumna Michelle Hurd also will co-star in the series, produced by CBS TV Studios in association with Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment.
The new untitled Star Trek series features Stewart reprising his iconic role as Picard, which he played for seven seasons on Star Trek: The Next Generation, as he takes on a new adventure.
No details are being revealed about the characters Cabrera and Hurd are playing, but I hear Cabrera will play the pilot of Picard’s ship who also is a skillful thief. Hurd is playing a former intelligence officer who is a brilliant analyst with a terrific memory that has not been affected by her drug and alcohol abuse.

“Star Trek: Discovery” has been renewed for a third season at CBS All Access.
The announcement comes after the series has aired just six episodes of its second season. In addition, Variety has learned that series co-executive producer and writer Michelle Paradise has been tapped to serve as co-showrunner alongside Alex Kurtzman. Kurtzman will still continue to oversee the expansion of the growing “Star Trek” universe under his deal with CBS Television Studios.
“Michelle joined us midway through season two and energized the room with her ferocious knowledge of ‘Trek,’” said Kurtzman. “Her grasp of character and story detail, her drive and her focus have already become essential in ensuring the ‘Trek’ legacy, and her fresh perspective always keeps us looking forward. I’m proud to say Michelle and I are officially running ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ together.”

If you’ve been following the news surrounding the current state of the final frontier, it may seem like there is a ton of “Star Trek” just around the corner. This is because in the last several months, CBS All Access and “Trek” executive producer Alex Kurtzman have announced a flurry of new series happening as an expansion of the franchise, including a Jean-Luc Picard spin-off starring Sir Patrick Stewart, another spin-off focused on Michelle Yeoh’s “Star Trek: Discovery” character, and the animated series “Lower Decks.”
However, as Kurtzman explained at the Television Critics Association press tour, everyone on the “Trek” team is very conscious of making sure audiences don’t feel like there’s just too much space adventure happening. “We’ve worked very closely with All Access to set up a grid, so you’re not overwhelmed by 20,000 of them at once,” Kurtzman told reporters. “It may...

Getting Patrick Stewart to reprise the role of Capt. Jean-Luc Picard in a brand new “Star Trek” series on CBS All Access took a lot of convincing, according to the franchise’s executive producer, Alex Kurtzman, but was made possible by ensuring it wouldn’t seem repetitive.
Kurtzman revealed the inside story of how he and his team wooed Stewart in a Q&A at Variety‘s CES Summit on Tuesday in Las Vegas.
“We heard he was very reticent, for a million understandable reasons, to do it,” said Stewart told Variety. “I think he just felt ‘I don’t know what else there is to do?'”
But Kurtzman and his writers pitched him on a fresh storyline for Picard in which the character’s life is deeply affected by the dissolution of the Romulan empire.
“We proposed it to him, he sat there and listening very thoughtfully as he does,...
