South Africa’s Quizzical Pictures has commissioned eight-part crime series “Murder By The Sea.”
The series is set in Blaasgat, a fictional coastal town named after its giant blowhole. When Lennart Cato, a local man-made-good, is found dead inside a papier-mâché whale on the opening night of a new Whale Museum that he’s funding, the locals turn to town resident and retired old-school thespian Lawrence Mantooth for answers. Once famous for his 80s TV show, where he played detective Pericles van Breda, Lawrence has found that few locals see the line between actor and character and often call on him to help with their little mysteries. Now, with this crime on their doorstep, he’s viewed as the obvious person to find out whodunnit? However, the real detective in Blaasgat is the woman behind the man – Lawrence’s keenly observant wife, Dawn Mantooth-Solomon.

It was back in June of last year that we learned HBO Max had pulled the plug on the Ridley Scott-produced sci-fi series “Raised by Wolves,” cancelling the show after just two seasons. The series was subsequently pulled from HBO Max entirely, with promised plans to license the series (and others) to third-party free ad-supported streaming television (Fast) channels.
Making good on that promise, Bloody Disgusting has learned that “Raised by Wolves” has now found a new home at The Roku Channel, alongside HBO Max’s “Westworld.”
“Raised by Wolves” is now available for streaming on The Roku Channel as part of this week’s launch of 14 Warner Bros. branded linear channels, which include…
WB TV All Together: With stories that feel like home and characters who feel like family, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Programming includes Head of Class, Better With You, Eight is Enough and more.

Reaching a significant milestone, The Sandton Times Hour, a radio show and podcast that brings the webpages of The Sandton Times to life, marked its 100th show this week. Having started as a podcast during the first week of the Covid-19 lockdown in 2020, the weekly show quickly garnered an audience from both greater Sandton and from around the world, speaking to an impressive list of celebrity guests every week, both locally and internationally including Boity, DJ Zinhle, DJ Cuppy, Kim Engelbrecht, Michaella Russell and Sipho “Hotstix” Mabuse to name a few, as well as newsmakers, CEO’s, analysts and authors.

Ridley Scott’s “Raised by Wolves” has been canceled after two seasons at HBO Max, Variety has confirmed.
Originally ordered to series at WarnerMedia-owned cable channel TNT in 2018 before landing at HBO Max ahead of its series premiere in September 2020, the sci-fi drama centers on two androids tasked with raising human children on a mysterious virgin planet. As the burgeoning colony of humans threatens to be torn apart by religious differences, the androids learn that controlling the beliefs of humans is a treacherous and difficult task.
“While we are not proceeding with a third season of Raised by Wolves, we are beyond grateful to the stellar cast and crew, our creators Aaron Guzikowski, Ridley Scott, David W. Zucker, and the entire team at Scott Free Productions, for their beautiful artistry and unique ability to immerse fans into the world of Kepler-22b,” HBO Max said in a statement to Variety Friday.

This article contains major spoilers for Raised by Wolves season 2.
The nice thing about tuning into a new episode of HBO Max’s gonzo sci-fi series Raised by Wolves is that you really have no reasonable expectation of what you’re about to watch.
Through two seasons the show created by Aaron Guzikowski has been set on an intensely alien world with all sorts of unfamiliar creatures, environments, and concepts. Just about every episode is as shocking as a series finale with installments this season alone featuring a merman-like sea creature that steals a teenage mother’s baby, a murderous android child with no face, and of course: a main character turning into a tree.
Still, season finales hold a special place in Raised by Wolves’ heart. Last season’s finale set a pretty bonkers precedent with lead android Lamia a.k.a. Mother (Amanda Collin) giving birth to her seventh child,...

Set in the foreboding sugar cane fields of KwaZulu-Natal, Fremantle-M-Net crime thriller “Reyka” – starring South African born Kim Engelbrecht, whose credits include “Isidingo,” “Dominion” and “The Flash,” and Iain Glen, Ser Jorah Mormont in “Games of Thrones” – looks set to mark another milestone in both Fremantle and premium South Africa TV production.
For Fremantle, a still expanding scripted drama force, “Reyka” is its first South African show, after it launched last year its first shows from Israel’s Maria Feldman and Chile’s Fabula.
For M-Net, following on “Trackers,” co-produced with HBO and Zdf, “Reyka” marks an early push into large-scale premium international co-production pairing local and international talent as M-Net parent Multichoice, led by Yolisa Phahle, sees some significant success in facing off with Netflix.

In just a few years, the London Screenings have coalesced into a significant event for the international TV business.
Taking place virtually over the next two weeks, London Screenings is organized by a group of leading London-based international distributors — All3Media International, Banijay Rights, Entertainment One, Fremantle and ITV Studios — to showcase their latest scripted and unscripted fare.
The distributors have been working together since 2018 to coordinate their spring screening events, which sprang up to take advantage of the many international buyers who travel to the U.K. for the long-established BBC Studios Showcase in late February.
In recent years, the quality and importance of these screening events has grown, says Greg Johnson, ITV Studios executive VP of sales and distribution, Emea & Americas. Johnson says ITV has made a “significant investment to provide an unforgettable experience for our buyers,” including immersing them in the distributor’s content at London’s iconic...

After a particularly dour third season, fans were promised that the fourth season of The Flash would lighten things up, which was most welcome. On the other hand, the pacing and plotting of the major character and story arcs was uneven and dissatisfying, with lots of highs but too many lows.
The Flash: The Complete Fourth Season is out on Blu-ray and Digital HD combo pack today and across its four discs offers up not only all 23 episodes but the compete “Crisis on Earth-x” crossover event. No doubt, this was necessary considering that Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) and Iris West (Candace Patton) finally tie in the knot in the crossover’s Legends of the Tomorrow installment.
While he is taking a moment to appreciate his happiness, his season-long antagonist has determined Barry needs to be taught humility and sets about to beat that into him episode after episode.

Team Flash‘s very risky plan to take on — and hopefully take down — Clifford DeVoe aka The Thinker was not taken lightly, as seen in this deleted scene from the CW series’ Season 4 finale.
In the above, exclusive outtake from “We Are The Flash,” Marlize (played by Kim Engelbrecht) details via much technobabble her intricate idea to create a “cerebral bridge” by which telepathic Cecile (Danielle Nicolet) can connect Barry to Clifford’s psyche, so that the speedster can battle the Brainy Big Bad Inception-style.

So, now that we know Ralphy Dibny is gone for good, I suppose all we can do is sit back and see how the remainder of the war between the Flash and the Thinker will play out. On that note, if some new promo material circulating ahead of next week’s episode, “Therefore She Is,” gives us any sort of idea of what to expect, it’s that we could be in store for a real barn-burner.
We already knew to anticipate Jessica Camacho’s return as Gypsy well in advance, but we suspect that whatever she has to sort out with Cisco Ramon is only the tip of the iceberg. Really, the team could use all the help they can get right now against a supremely powered Clifford DeVoe, and the bounty hunter from Earth-19 may just be the right woman to provide it.
So, as you peruse the accompanying gallery,...

Warning : Potential Spoilers Ahead for ‘The Flash‘s mid-season premiere, ‘The Trial of the Flash’.
“My name is Barry Allen, and I’m an innocent man. … I didn’t kill Clifford Devoe.” This dialogue perfectly continues the dark and grittiness in the ‘Trial of the Flash’ from the heartbreaking cliffhanger of the fall finale episode. As we know, Barry was previously framed in the murder of Clifford Devoe, who has swapped his consciousness into the healthy body of a mind-reading meta, dumping off his body in the process. Devastated by this incident each and every member in team Flash tries very hard to prove Barry’s innocence. Cisco collects the footage of Barry’s babbling about the trial when he arrived from the speed force. Joe tries to fabricate Marlize with the help of Ralph.

4.10 The Trial Of The Flash
I'm going to start with what I liked about The Trial Of The Flash lest I lose myself and my readers too quickly. We finally got some genuine character development out of Ralph Dibny in way that felt completely earned, and it's something that I hope will be built on in future episodes. Candice Patton was absolutely brilliant in this episode, whether Iris was required to sit quietly in a courtroom or to confront a supervillain and call her out on her bullshit, she absolutely killed. And while we're at it, Kim Engelbrecht turned in a great performance, too, and one that makes me wonder whether...

After riding high with epic crossover event ‘Crisis on Earth X’, The Flash continues its exceptional form. This week’s mid season finale “Don’t Run” is filled with slow thrills and twists. Devoe’s immaculate game plan to defeat Barry Allen resembles a perfect game of chess where all his pieces were moved according to plan.
As the night before a nasty storm is calm and cool, the condition of the team Flash resembles the same. They were having fun after the huge wedding moment, Ralph Dibny (an excellent Hartley Sawyer) returns to Star Labs and started hanging out with Killer Frost and Co. We have a gift opening session with the couple and one of them played a pivotal role at the end.

Warning : Potential Spoilers Ahead.
This week we finally have a revelation about the big baddie Thinker/Devoe as we see in this episode “Therefore I Am” of The Flash, when he comes face to face with Barry. There was a complete shift in the tone here for the first time in season 4 and instead being light and funny, there were complete paranoia and darkness.
What makes this guy a bigger threat when compared Zoom or Reverse Flash is his overpowered mind. Being a master manipulator, he was always been a few steps ahead of the whole team. Devoe smartly turns up the tables during the big confrontation sequence with Barry. Regarding the backstory, there was a throwback scene of the beloved particle accelerator and the guest appearance of a fan favorite character.
Neil Sandilands perfectly nailed his role as Thinker. He was truly intimidating while uttering the dialogue “knowledge without love” at the end.

Finally! The Flash is actually getting a villain that isn't a speedster! I'm not sure who this villain is but he's a samurai, who was teased in Comic-Con teaser trailer that was released. It seems like every foe that The Flash has come up against in the series has been a speedster so this will definitely bring the show a much-needed shot of freshness. They don't say who the villain is but it could be Baron Katana. A Flash villain from back in the Silver Age of comics.

As entertaining on an escapist level as it is irrefutably engaging on a level that is essential for citizens who are players in our political environment. I’m “biast” (pro): love the cast
I’m “biast” (con): nothing
(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)
This is warfare today. It’s a colonel in a bunker in outer London (surrounded by computers) and a general in an office building in Whitehall (surrounded by politicians) and a drone pilot in Las Vegas (flying a robot armed with missiles and also, more importantly, with cameras, from thousands of miles away) and a facial-recognition technician at a workstation in Pearl Harbor and an agent of the Kenyan military on the ground in Nairobi collaborating in an operation to capture most-wanted terrorists in a civilian suburban neighborhood in a country that neither the Us nor the UK is at war with.

Screened at Locarno International Film Festival Piazza Grande
When Anders Larsen chases after one of the two young black brothers who have just mugged him on a busy Cape Town street, he doesn't just want his case back, he wants to know how the boy was able to leap up and over a park gate with such agility.
Larsen (Marcel Van Heerden) trains trapeze artists, and what he sees in the lad is what he's always looking for: the makings of someone he can turn into what the title of this likable film calls "The Flyer".
Director Revel Fox, co-writing with Philip Roberts, makes the most of a structure familiar from many an old-time Hollywood picture as one brother goes to jail while the other purses a dream. Only budgetary limitations keep the pleasure in the film muted as trapeze artists need a Big Top and the roar of the crowd, and the action here takes place in the barren space where Larsen trains his flyers. The film may find a warmer welcome on television and DVD than in theaters.
"The Flyer" starts snappily with two excellent performances from youngsters Jarrid Geduld, as the athletic Kier, and Marvin Pasqualie, as the criminally inclined Spies. They live rough and steal what they need with the older Spies definitely in charge.
When a robbery goes sour and Kier is apprehended, Spies knifes a police officer to allow Kier to flee. Spies goes to jail while Kier accepts Larsen's offer to train for the trapeze.
Ian van der Heyden and Craig Palm, as Kier and Spies respectively, take over as the older brother is released from jail a hardened criminal still wishing to involve Kier in his plans.
The story follows a conventional path with the inclusion of dancer Mickey (Kim Engelbrecht) as Kier's love interest while Anders plots an audition for his young flyer with a famous Paris circus.
It's all very neatly done and to see a trapeze artist attempt not only the triple somersault but also the quadruple is always a thrill, but Fox's film tells a decent yarn, and when you go to the circus you need a legend.
