When a movie is called the best of all times, it clearly puts a lot of responsibility on it, as every viewer will have to end up with the same conclusion after watching it. Well, it’s good that in the case with this legendary movie there’s no doubt someone is not going to like it.
The movie we are talking about is the legal drama created in 1957 by Sidney Lumet named 12 Angry Men and we are sure you have heard about it at least once.
12 Angry Men is a courtroom drama that follows 12 members of a jury as they try to make a decision about the future of a teenager accused of murdering his father. The cast of the movie is brilliant, including Henry Fonda, Martin Balsam, John Fiedler, and Jack Warden as the leads.

CBS sitcom "The Bob Newhart Show" was a staple for American TV audiences of the '70s, thanks in large part to clever writing and Newhart's much-loved performance as psychologist and comedic straight man Bob Hartley. The show ran for six seasons from 1972 to 1978, but it had a surprisingly long pop cultural afterlife. Characters from "The Bob Newhart Show" have popped up in everything from "Murphy Brown" to "St. Elsewhere" to "Alf," though their most famous reappearance came in the jokey "Newhart" finale in 1990. In it, Newhart wakes up in bed next to his wife from the previous series and discovers that this entire sitcom was all an elaborate dream. "The Bob Newhart Show," it turned out, was his real world.
When it wasn't being resurrected for increasingly meta crossovers, "The Bob Newhart Show" was a pretty straightforward sitcom about the life of a mental health clinician and the assortment...

It's probably the fault of closed-minded, conservative propaganda that the idea of subversiveness within art received a bad reputation. Just as all art is political, all art is (or at least can be) a little subversive. Certainly the dictionary definition of the term, where a work of art intends to undermine the power and/or authority of an established idea, system or value, is heavily akin to the way plot structure tends to be broken down within plays and screenplays: a period of Stasis being interrupted by an Intrusion or Inciting Action, and so on.
Given how weird a number of people are when it comes to the behavior and attitudes toward the Christmas holiday, it's no real surprise that any art having to do with Christmas tends toward subversion. This can manifest in tangential ways (like the slapstick violence of the "Home Alone" series) or direct ways (Santa Claus...

Besides his work on the 1978 Diana Ross and Michael Jackson-starring cult classic "The Wiz," I know the late, great director Sidney Lumet for his legal/courtroom dramas such tas "The Verdict" and "Find Me Guilty." I was first introduced to such works in college when a criminal justice professor showed my class Lumet's first feature film, "12 Angry Men." The movie allows viewers to become flies on the wall as a jury who, on the hottest day of the year, is sent into the deliberation room to unanimously decide whether to send an 18-year-old murder suspect to the electric chair.
Though the then 33-year-old Lumet had the simple goal of just getting his first feature film under his belt, "12 Angry Men" would go on to become one of the director's greatest films. For me, a feature about 12 hot and sweaty jurors doing their civic duty in a cramped...

Director Kevin Reynolds’ graphic, gritty desert combat movie is about a lost tank in the Soviet Union’s invasion of Afghanistan. Besides being 98 an unpleasant downer, it now reminds us that we got into the exact same fix just a decade after the Russkis threw in the towel. Cruel Russki soldiers commit atrocities against vengeful Moujahedin resistance, and there’s really nobody to root for. George Dzundza, Jason Patric, Steven Bauer and Stephen Baldwin endure a rough ordeal out in the dirt, hoping for the next war movie breakthrough hit.

In 1989 Bill Duke himself helmed an acclaimed TV remake (featuring character actor John Fiedler in the same role he played in the movie) and still another followed in 2008.

Mark Tarlov, who produced such films as Copycat and Serial Mom, passed away on July 31st after a battle with cancer. His family made the announcement. Tarlov was 69.
Tarlov landed his first entertainment job in Business Affairs at Warner Bros. in 1979. Four years later, he EP’d his first feature, Christine, based on the Stephen King novel and directed by John Carpenter. Next, he produced Sidney Lumet’s Power starring Richard Gere, Gene Hackman and Julie Christie.
In the ’90s Tarlov worked with the British novelist William Boyd to transform the Mario Vargas Llosa novel, Aunt Julia and the Scriptwriter into the offbeat film, Tune in Tomorrow, directed by Jon Amiel and starring Keanu Reeves, Peter Falk, Barbara Hershey, Patricia Clarkson and John Larroquette. Those who grew up watching The Fox and the Hound should get ready to sob all over again. According to our sources – the same ones who revealed an Aladdin sequel was in development, and that Ewan McGregor is returning as Obi-Wan – Disney is reportedly in the early stages of developing a live-action remake of the 1981 animated classic for a new generation of fans. Though nothing has been confirmed by the studio as of yet, the film is likely to land on the Disney Plus streaming platform, from what we’re told.
For those unfamiliar with the original, the heartfelt movie featured the story of two unlikely pals trying to preserve their friendship despite their budding animal instincts and the nagging pressure from society that urged them to be enemies. The original flick subtly taught children a useful lesson about prejudice and how society often determines behavior.

Leading up the 2018 midterm elections, Fox News Channel was looking to entice fans of Infowars — the right-wing purveyor of conspiracy theories that has been booted from most internet platforms — to download its app.
As of Tuesday, an ad for Fox News’ app appeared at the top of a search for “Infowars” on Apple’s App Store. Apple pulled the Infowars app from the App Store in early September for violating its content policies.
But now the conservative-leaning news cabler says the ad tied to Infowars was “an error” and that it has taken steps to end the campaign. Fox News discontinued the ad after being contacted by Variety inquiring about the ad’s placement.
“In working with Apple on our app acquisition campaign, it recently came to our attention that Infowars was included within our competitive set along with sites like the New York Times and Wall Street Journal,” John Fiedler,...

Lorraine Hansberry’s play has been given a masterful film adaptation, with the emotional truth of her words left intact. We’re told of some superficial compromises, but they do not diminish the play’s powerful clash between old and new ideas in a Southside Chicago family struggling to escape poverty. This may be Sidney Poitier’s best screen performance, but the honors are shared with a superlative cast.

Lawyers in motion pictures have been portrayed as one of two extremes, devils or angels, almost since celluloid was invented. The first film dealing specifically with a law firm and attorneys, 1933’s Counsellor at Law, starring John Barrymore, portrayed its J.D.s as upstanding citizens, as did the early Perry Mason films of the same period. This quickly changed, however, with many attorneys portrayed as being capable of the same brand of skullduggery as their shifty clients. With that in mind, we bring you a list of the good, the bad and the ugly of lawyers in movies. Enjoy, and please refrain from suing us if you feel otherwise...

Jeanne Crain: Lighthearted movies vs. real life tragedies (photo: Madeleine Carroll and Jeanne Crain in ‘The Fan’) (See also: "Jeanne Crain: From ‘Pinky’ Inanity to ‘Margie’ Magic.") Unlike her characters in Margie, Home in Indiana, State Fair, Centennial Summer, The Fan, and Cheaper by the Dozen (and its sequel, Belles on Their Toes), or even in the more complex A Letter to Three Wives and People Will Talk, Jeanne Crain didn’t find a romantic Happy Ending in real life. In the mid-’50s, Crain accused her husband, former minor actor Paul Brooks aka Paul Brinkman, of infidelity, of living off her earnings, and of brutally beating her. The couple reportedly were never divorced because of their Catholic faith. (And at least in the ’60s, unlike the humanistic, progressive-thinking Margie, Crain was a “conservative” Republican who supported Richard Nixon.) In the early ’90s, she lost two of her...

Bob Newhart believes being smart, and not overly specific, about its time has helped his first sitcom's popularity endure.
Hallmark Channel presents 12 hours of evidence Sunday (May 27) with a 40th-anniversary marathon of "The Bob Newhart Show," a 1972-78 staple of the CBS Saturday-night lineup that included such other classics as "All in the Family," "M*A*S*H," "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" and "The Carol Burnett Show."
Newhart's famously buttoned-down humor perfectly suited his role as Chicago psychologist Bob Hartley, whose office misadventures were balanced by his home life with wife Emily (Suzanne Pleshette).
"First, Hallmark is very classy and secondly, the show holds up," Newhart tells Zap2it of his pleasure about this weekend's marathon. "It's enjoying a renaissance, and that's a tribute to the writing and performing. We didn't really go too much into the style of the era, which I think accounts for the longevity ... though in some scenes,...

On paper, it's a tough sell: a black-and-white movie set in one room, with an all-male (and all-white) cast, with no action except for a heated war of words among a dozen guys. Indeed, "12 Angry Men" -- which opened 55 years ago last week (April 13, 1957) -- with its shoestring budget, was a financial flop, and while it was nominated for three Oscars (including Best Picture), it lost them all to the splashier, more colorful, wide-screen epic "The Bridge on the River Kwai." Yet today, "12 Angry Men" is considered a classic, not just for its riveting script and top-notch acting, but also for how it made a virtue of its stagy limitations. Adapted by Reginald Rose from his own 1954 TV play (back when live drama was a TV staple), the movie expanded the hour-long story of a deliberating jury into 95 minutes, but it didn't expand the confines of the setting: a single,...

Bob Newhart and Judd Hirsch are two of the most enduring and recognizable stars in TV history. Between them, they've had five very successful series (The Bob Newhart Show, Newhart, Taxi, Dear John, and Numb3rs).

It was true of The Tigger Movie and it seems to be equally true of Pooh’s Heffalump Halloween Movie: the new Pooh adventures are just rehashes of classic Hundred Acre Wood stories. The Tigger Movie imitated Winnie the Pooh and Tigger Too while the Heffalump story is easily likened to Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day, the 1968 short that shared the themes of courage and facing your fears. What Blustery Day got right is that it reined in its runtime to a mere 25 minutes whereas Pooh’s Heffalump Halloween Movie stretches itself thin over 66 minutes – and man is it a stretch.
Everything is all set and it seems like this just might be the best Halloween ever for the inhabitants of the Hundred Acre Wood. All the costumes are ready (except for Gopher who’s oddly indecisive in this film – but he still whistles when he talks, so...

When Disney announced The Tigger Movie was in the works over a decade ago, my immediate question was “Didn’t they already make a Tigger movie?” Back in 1974, Disney created Winnie the Pooh and Tigger Too, which I maintain is the best animated rendition of A.A. The man behind the voice of beloved Winnie The Pooh character Piglet in 40 years of Disney films has died - a day after castmate Paul Winchell passed on. John Fiedler, who landed the part of Winnie The Pooh's best friend in the 1960s, was 80 when he died on Saturday. As well as voicing Piglet, Fiedler will be remembered for his co-starring roles in movies True Grit and That Touch Of Mink as well as TV parts in Star Trek and beloved sitcom The Bob Newhart Show. Winchell, 82, who died on Friday provided the voice of Tigger in the Winnie The Pooh films.
