The episode of Best Horror Movie You Never Saw covering Dog Soldiers was Written by Cody Hamman, Narrated by Kier Gomes, Edited by Juan Jimenez, Produced by John Fallon and Tyler Nichols, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
A group of well-trained soldiers are dropped into the wilderness. Where they start getting picked off by a mysterious attacker. It quickly becomes apparent that their enemy is some kind of monstrous creature. And the weapons they have aren’t so effective when the target isn’t human. This sounds like a description of Predator – but it’s actually Dog Soldiers (watch it Here). Which is one of the coolest werewolf movies ever made, and The Best Horror Movie You Never Saw.
Neil Marshall knew from an early age that he wanted to be a filmmaker. Raised on the classics from the ‘70s and ‘80s, he was especially fond of horror. The films of John Carpenter,...

Haley Bennett (Cyrano, Swallow, The Girl On The Train) is set to lead Night and Day, Justine Waddell’s adaptation of Virginia Woolf’s novel, to be directed by BAFTA nominee Tina Gharavi (I Am Nasrine, Cleopatra: African Queens). WestEnd Films has boarded the the German-Irish-u.K. co-production and is introducing the project to buyers in Cannes.
Set in an era when glass ceilings were made of concrete, Bennett will play Katharine Hilbery — one woman who insisted on reaching for the stars. Based on what has been called Woolf’s funniest novel, Night and Day is described as an “unromantic comedy” about a passionate astronomer who does everything she can to avoid romantic love and marriage. Contemporary in tone, the story of Katharine’s bold challenge to the Edwardian patriarchy is set against the backdrop of the suffragette movement and advances in science and technology, at the turn of the 20th century.

British distributor Vertigo Releasing has acquired David Bowie origin film “Stardust,” starring Johnny Flynn, who recently won the best actor award at London’s Raindance Film Festival for his performance as Bowie.
Vertigo will release the film before the end of the year, on the back of the U.S. release by IFC Films on Nov. 25. Ed Caffrey, head of acquisitions and business development at Vertigo, lauded the “compelling performance from the very talented Johnny Flynn.”
As well as the strength of Flynn’s performance, the distributor will build on Bowie’s enduring popularity in the U.K., and positive local reviews, such as a four-star write-up in The Times newspaper, which called “Stardust” “a remarkably confident, smart and resilient film with the sense of soul that its fascinating subject deserves.”

Salon Pictures has unveiled a first look image of Johnny Flynn as David Bowie in its upcoming feature “Stardust.”
Rising star Flynn, who recently starred in Michael Pearce’s BAFTA-winning debut feature “Beast” and co-starred in the ITV and Amazon Studio’s adaptation of William Makepeace Thackeray’s “Vanity Fair,” stars as the music icon as he embarks on his first road trip to America in 1971 and creates his, now legendary, Ziggy Stardust persona. Jena Malone co-stars as Bowie’s wife Angie alongside Marc Maron as publicist Rob Oberman.
The project has been described as a “origins story” and “moment in time film” rather than a biopic by its producers, who likened it to British features “Control” and “Nowhere Boy,” about Joy Division and John Lennon, respectively. As such it is not reliant on using Bowie’s music but will instead use period music songs that the musician covered, not his original tracks.

Biopic “Vita & Virginia” has been set as the opening night film for this year’s edition of the BFI Flare Festival, Britain’s largest and longest running Lgbtq+ film festival. Chanya Button’s film, which stars Elizabeth Debicki as iconic author Virginia Woolf and Gemma Arterton as her lover and muse Vita Sackville-West, will see its U.K. premiere at the head of the festival’s 33rd edition on March 21.
“I’m beyond thrilled that ‘Vita & Virginia’ will be opening BFI Flare,” said Button. “I’m so grateful that this film that celebrates love and creativity in all its forms will have a platform at such a vivid and forward thinking festival.”
Based on a stage play by Eileen Atkins and adapted by Button, the film tells the true story of the long-running and passionate relationship between Woolf and Sackville-West and the birth of Woolf’s novel “Orlando,” which their encounters inspired.

Stardust, a film that will depict David Bowie’s 1971 first American visit, sets actor/singer Johnny Flynn to play the legend.
The life of the late rock legend, David Bowie, is to become the dramatic centerpiece of a biopic titled Stardust. Tackling the task of portraying Bowie is Johnny Flynn, a musician who’s already banked quite the resume as an actor.
Stardust will chronicle a critical waypoint in the career of Bowie (born David Robert Jones), set in 1971 during the then-24-year-old's first trip to America. After Bowie made evolutionary leaps from early-1960s teen idol to "Space Oddity" in 1969 to Dylan-esque/Britpop hybrid on album Hunky Dory and a dark transition on The Man Who Sold the World, his first stateside sojourn yielded inspiration for his next creative step. There, he conceived the plan to parlay his onstage androgyny into the persona that we know as Ziggy Stardust,...

Iconic Australian actor, Paul Hogan is to star in upcoming feature film “The Very Excellent Mr Dundee.” Production starts next month in Australia, Los Angeles and Vancouver.
Hogan recently thrilled and infuriated fans of the “Crocodile Dundee” film series in which he starred in the 1980s, by appearing in a short film that appeared to be a trailer for a new film in the franchise. But the clip turned out to be a advertisement for Tourism Australia.

Even though Nicholas Cage has made some really dubious choices in projects to appear in, he has also made a fair few cracking ones too. Confirmation has just come through that Cage will be starring in Mandy, an action thriller from Beyond the Black Rainbow helmer, Panos Cosmatos.
The new project, which is due to start filming this summer in Belgium is set in the primal wilderness of 1983, where Red Miller, a broken and haunted man hunts an unhinged religious sect who slaughtered the love of his life and is being described as “Heavy Metal Story of Demon Bikers”

Clive Barker’s feature film directorial debut, Hellraiser is a remarkable cinematic experience for numerous reasons. Released in 1987, Hellraiser forged Barker’s career in the realm of cinema after he enjoyed success in the literary world, pushed the boundaries of the horror genre in ways audiences had never seen before, and also introduced us to Doug Bradley as an exciting new face in horror, firmly establishing his character as an icon whose influence would resonate for decades (and decades) to come.
And, of course, one of the biggest components of Hellraiser’s perversely wonderful success are the special effects brought to life by designer Bob Keen and his insanely ambitious and talented crew. With all that in mind, for this installment of Practical-ly Perfect, I thought it would be fun to celebrate the brilliant special effects of Hellraiser and hear more from Keen about his experiences collaborating with Barker and...

Another Scream Factory release, another controversy. Scream Factory’s Collector’s Edition release of Neil Marshall’s Dog Soldiers has been plagued with issues since it was announced. Delays, a lack of source material from which to scan a new transfer. After a year of waiting, some of us assumed that we’d never actually see this release come to fruition. On June 23rd, the wait was finally over, but some people were less than satisfied. Do they have a valid complaint, or is it more anti-Scream Factory hipster nonsense?
The Movie:
First, let’s talk about the movie, then we’ll get into the controversy. Neil Marshall’s Dog Soldiers is one of the last great Werewolf movies. It shouldn’t be hard to do, considering the criminal lack of solid werewolf movies on the market, but sadly, the few that do get made are generally average, or worse.

"Dog Soldiers" is a well-made -- though mindless -- horror-mayhem film, pitting a group of British soldiers out on a training exercise in the Scottish Highlands against a bloodthirsty band of werewolves. The action is essentially by the numbers, but there is a welcome lack of pretension about the film, which very simply sets out to entertain and ends up delivering in good measure.
In previous werewolf movies, much is made about the transition process and the fact that the evil comes out only on full moons. Not so here. The awaited transformation scene involves bulging eyes, a quick fall behind a table and then up again as a slobbering monster. Kevin McKidd, who starred in "Trainspotting", walks away with acting honors, playing the only soldier with a few brain cells, while Sean Pertwee as his sergeant is also first-rate. Neophyte director Neil Marshall shows his background in editing by constructing a well-made romp that never slows down.
The squad of soldiers on a training mission in the Highlands comes across a decimated special forces team. It seems they were stalking the werewolves, but the tables have been turned, and now the squaddies are the prey. With the help of a local girl, they hide in a remote farmhouse. Members of the squad get bitten, slashed and generally slaughtered though the night, while the girl -- no surprise here -- turns out to be a reluctant werewolf herself.
The script is littered with movie in-jokes. One character is named Bruce Campbell, after the star of "Evil Dead". Elsewhere there is an oblique reference to Michelangelo Antonioni's "Zabriskie Point". The most telling link comes when one character parallels the soldiers' situation to the soldiers battling the Zulu hordes in the film "Zulu". In some ways, "Dog Soldiers" is a retelling of "Zulu". The soldiers could be fighting off Zulu warriors, aliens or werewolves -- it doesn't really matter. The action is what matters -- and the film delivers that well.
