Steve Coogan is reprising his iconic role of Alan Partridge for new spoof documentary And Did Those Feet… Here are the details.
The BBC has announced a new Alan Partridge series, which will take the form of a spoof documentary called And Did Those Feet… With Alan Partridge. It’s once again written by Steve Coogan and brothers Neil and Rob Gibbons, with the latter also directing. The official description of the series reads as follows:
In his new documentary series – And Did Those Feet… With Alan Partridge – we follow the beloved and, to be fair, revered broadcaster as he reintegrates into life in Britain after a year working in Saudi Arabia. But what begins as a documentary about homecoming soon morphs into something more personal as Alan realises that the happiness he thought he’d feel at being back in Norwich just hasn’t materialised. Something’s missing.

Warning: contains plot spoilers for Shetland series eight, episode two.
The Shetland islands only have a population of 22,000 – roughly a tenth of the number of people who go to Glastonbury Festival – so up there, you can expect to run into the same faces time and again. It’s no different for Scottish actors on TV. There are only a finite number, and in a long-running series like BBC One’s Shetland, sometimes cast-members get recycled from one role to another.
That’s what happened with Ann Louise Ross, the actor who plays farmer and widower Agnes Moffat in Shetland series eight. We first met Agnes in episode one, when (temporary Di) Tosh is investigating a series of livestock murders. Several of Agnes’ sheep have been found with their throats cut and daubed in their blood with a mysterious symbol.
In episode two, that same symbol is also found tattooed on...

Ah, Love Actually. It’s the convoluted Christmas movie of choice for many of us year after year, and we love it despite its many flaws, which have only grown in number as we’ve become more aware of things like the Bechdel test, how unfunny fat jokes are and that not all relationships are between heterosexual white people.
As romcoms go, Love Actually is certainly ambitious, telling nine different stories over the course of two hours, which makes it even more unbelievable that Richard Curtis originally wanted there to be a whopping fourteen storylines.
The ones that made the cut range from the slightly icky to full-blown swoon fests, so let’s rank them to find out which is the most romantic Love Actually storyline:
9. Harry, Karen and Mia
There is no romance here at all. Not in the way Harry (Alan Rickman) takes his brilliant wife Karen (Emma Thompson...

Love may actually be all around, but it was mostly a white Christmas when it came to 2003 rom-com “Love Actually.”
Writer-director Richard Curtis reflected on the beloved classic film, saying the lack of diversity makes him “feel uncomfortable and a bit stupid” two decades later.
“There are things you’d change but, thank God, society is changing, so my film is bound, in some moments, to feel out of date,” Curtis said in a interview with Diane Sawyer for ABC’s 20th-anniversary special “The Laughter & Secrets of Love Actually: 20 Years Later” (via Entertainment Weekly).
Curtis continued, “The lack of diversity makes me feel uncomfortable and a bit stupid. You know, I think there are sort of three plots that have sort of bosses and people who work for them.”
The film focused on 10 separate love stories, with Hugh Grant, Emma Thompson, Laura Linney, Bill Nighy, Liam Neeson, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Alan Rickman,...

BBC has released the first trailer for their upcoming adaptation of Agatha Christie's The ABC Murders. The three-part limited series stars John Malkovich in the role of Hercule Poirot and Rupert Grint (Harry Potter) as Inspector Crome.
The series looks really good. Malkovich adds his own interesting flavor to the character Hercule Poirot, and I like it.
The story is set in the 1930's, which is "a time when the nation is dangerously divided, with suspicion and hatred on the rise. In the midst of this tension, Poirot faces a serial killer known only as ‘A.B.C.’ First the killer strikes in Andover, then Bexhill. As the murder count rises, the only clue is the copy of the ABC Railway Guide at each crime scene. Poirot’s investigations are thwarted at every turn by an enemy determined to outsmart him. Here's our first look at John Malkovich in the role of Hercule Poirot in BBC's upcoming adaptation of Agatha Christie's The ABC Murders. As you can see, he's dialed back on the look of the character and isn't going for the over-exaggerated version that we've seen in recent depictions like Kenneth Branagh in Murder on the Orient Express.

“Whisky Galore!” is a beloved movie from 1949, one of the Ealing comedies that define a specific moment in post-war British culture (my personal favourite is “The Ladykillers”). Based on the 1947 novel of the same name, with a script written by the novelist, it was a lot of fun; presumably, the list of “movies people loved from long ago” was running a little short of ones that hadn’t already been remade, so almost 70 years later, we come to this.
During World War 2, and for a surprisingly long time afterwards (it didn’t fully finish until the 1950s), Britain went through rationing. Families were given set amounts of various products and expected to make do, although there was a black market for certain products,...

Quite why director Gillies MacKinnon and writer Peter McDougall decided to remake the 1949 comedy Whisky Galore remains to be seen, and yet in spite of the initial apprehensions, it feels somewhat timely to celebrate the notion of community, and remaining spirited in the face of adversity. To be released in such close proximity to Their Finest seems apt too, for the latter celebrates productions of this very flavour, which find a semblance of hope amidst one of Britain’s darkest ages.
The war may be going on, but those who inhabit the Highlands and Islands of Scotland don’t seem particularly interested – that is until they run out of whisky. The locals eventually get wind of a transport ship heading in the direction of America, which just so happens to be carrying tens of thousands of cases of the aforementioned beverage, causing then to concoct a plan.

‘Love Actually’: Superfan Chris Matthews Shares His Favorite Scenes From the Holiday Classic – Watch
There’s no denying that MSNBC host Chris Matthews is a big fan of Richard Curtis’ holiday classic, “Love Actually.” (John Oliver even created a video mashup showing how much he references the film). Matthews thinks the movie has “as much to do with politics as it does with falling in love,” according to the Washington Post. The daily newspaper sat down with the political commentator to watch the British romantic comedy and share his favorite scenes.
Among his most memorable parts include the scene where prime minister David, portrayed by Hugh Grant, tells off the Us President (played by Billy Bob Thornton).
“[We love that scene] because we love courage. We love guts under pressure. And we like the fact that [David] was chivalrous,” Matthews says in the clip below. “He was looking out for his girl, and that’s what it was about. It’s great stuff.”

Edinburgh International Film Festival saw out its historic 70th edition last week with a Closing Screening of homegrown comedy, Whisky Galore. Directed by Gillies MacKinnon, the film is a remake of the Alexander Mackendrick Ealing comedy classic of the same name. Set at the tail end of the war and based on real life events, it tells the story of the inhabitants of the little Isle of Eriskay and their plot to steal the precious supply of Scotch from a cargo ship that’s run aground. Acting veteran Gregor Fisher stars in the central role of booze-loving postmaster Macroon, a widower sadly preparing to see his feisty daughters marry and move out of the family homestead. Fisher, instantly recognisable to UK audiences as booze-soaked street philosopher...

With gala showings dedicated to whisky and golf movies, and strong Scots connections throughout, there’s a buzz about Scotland’s film industry – despite suggestions of deep-rooted problems elsewhere
The story of the father and son who practically invented the modern game of golf in the mid-19th century from the then-isolated outpost of Prestwick on the Ayrshire coast; a comic paean to the “water of life” after a ship full of whisky hits the rocks and crafty locals do their best to hang on to the cargo. Few films would seem more archetypally Scots than Tommy’s Honour, a biopic of pioneering golf champion Young Tom Morris, and Whisky Galore, the remake of the classic Ealing comedy featuring Gregor Fisher (aka Rab C Nesbitt). As the films occupying the high-profile opening and closing gala slots at the Edinburgh international film festival, their cultural capital is entirely appropriate.

Remake of classic Scottish comedy set for world premiere as 2016 Edinburgh closing night gala.
The 70th edition of the Edinburgh Film Festival (Eiff) (June 15-26) will close with the world premiere of Scottish comedy remake Whisky Galore!.

The fund will target productions that bring benefits to the Scottish film sector and economy.
In what Creative Scotland’s Director of Film & Media, Natalie Usher, is describing as “a really fantastic offering,” the new Scottish $2.7m (£1.75m) Production Growth Fund (Pgf) has launched and is open for applications today.
“It is a fund that will be attractive to feature film and high-end TV drama productions that will be accessing the UK tax credits,” Usher told ScreenDaily.
“What we are trying to do is bring bigger productions here and to hold on to productions from Scottish-based producers who might otherwise go to other nations or parts of the UK.”
Investments from the Pgf are non-recoupable and will reward productions that bring benefits to the Scottish film sector and economy.
A total of £750,000 is available for the period until March 31 2016 and a further £1m is earmarked for 2016/17.

Christmas is coming and that means crappy TV commercials, awful festive songs and snotty nosed sprogs banging on your front door with a half-hearted version of We Wish You a Merry Christmas, and hoping to make enough money to buy a cheap bottle of wine! All this is interspersed with eating and drinking too much, and pretending to be grateful for the ill fitting Rudolph sweater Aunt Florence bought especially for you.
Okay I’m a Christmas misery, especially when it comes to festive films on TV. I’m not knocking It’s a Wonderful Life (1943) and Miracle on 34th Street (1941), but they are filled with too much sentiment for a cynical old sod like me.
So me being me, here are ten alternative efforts to keep us grumpy old men happy.

The role of comedy in professional wrestling has been debated ad nauseam by both fans and industry experts alike. WWE, the top company in the business, have used it to varying success over the years. Generally speaking, most involved in the wild and wacky world of wrestling agree that laughs do have a place on the show, so long as they are kept out of the main event spotlight. Characters such as Santino Marella are played strictly for comic drama, designed to be light-hearted relief on what is often billed as the ultimate variety show, pro wrestling.
Outside of the ‘mainstream’ companies, names such as Colt Cabana have fostered a tremendous mix of in-ring acumen and humour. Although an accomplished technical talent, Cabana’s immediately likeable personality often shines through, giving him a connection to the audience which few top-level players can match. If it’s December, you can bet that Love Actually is on television.
Since debuting in 2003, the film — filled with all your favorite British actors — has become a modern classic. And whether you’re watching with friends or alone with a bowl of ice cream (no judgment!), chances are there is one plot that you’re just slightly more invested in than the others. During an EW staff meeting last week, it came out that people are pretty passionate defenders of which storylines they to and don’t deem acceptable. Personally, my favorite plot is the one between Colin Firth and Lúcia Moniz.

"The Lord of the Rings" was one of the most popular series in film history, earning over $2.9 billion worldwide and raking in an amazing 17 Oscars.
And, to nobody's surprise, the stars of "The Lord of the Rings" have since gone on to become major film and television stars: Viggo Mortensen has had acclaimed turns in movies like "A History of Violence," Orlando Bloom topped the box office again with the "Pirates of the Caribbean" trilogy, Dominic Monaghan anchored the cult classic TV show "Lost." The list goes on and on.
But one name is conspicuously absent from that list: Billy Boyd.
Boyd, of course, played the lovably naive hobbit Pippin. And even before "The Lord of the Rings" was out of theaters, he seemed on the verge of major stardom, appearing in the 2004 Best Picture nominee "Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World" (which lost to "The Return of the King...

Last night, Edith Bowman played host to the British Academy Scotland Awards 2012, celebrating the year’s best and most promising talent in Scotland.
Previously known as the BAFTA Scotland Awards, the nominations were announced last month, with Ken Loach’s The Angel’s Share leading the pack, having taken home the Jury Prize at Cannes back in the spring.
The results have officially been announced, and Loach’s film didn’t disappoint, taking home the Best Writer award for Paul Laverty and Best Actor/Actress in the Film category for Paul Brannigan.
Zam Salim came away with the Best Director and Best Feature Film awards for his feature directorial debut, Up There, which was released in UK cinemas on Friday – if it’s playing in a theatre near you, this should definitely be encouragement enough to go and seek it out, if you haven’t done so already.

Formerly known as the BAFTA Scotland Awards, the nominations for this year’s British Academy Scotland Awards 2012 have been announced, with the ever-brilliant Edith Bowman officially set to host the awards ceremony next month.
Leading the pack with four nominations to its name is Ken Loach’s The Angel’s Share, which took home the Jury Prize at Cannes earlier this year.
Following closely behind with two nominations each are Kevin Bridges and Zam Salim, the latter nominated in both the Best Director and Best Feature Film categories for the forthcoming, Up There, which will be released on 16th November in the UK.
The Scotland-born Bowman has a wealth of experience that makes her a perfect fit for the awards, having presented pretty much every major music festival the UK has to offer through her career, along with hosting the Q Awards back in 2005 on BBC Radio 1.

Zonad is from space, and is a brilliant idea. I received the DVD eagerly as I was keen on the idea from the cover notes and the trailer. It had all the ingredients needed to make a new classic Irish comedy: the wonderful location, a different take on the classic 50‘s sci-fi movies, mistaken identity and some good lines. It should make a great DVD release...
An Irish family full of stories of aliens see a meteor, and then return home to find what they believe to be just such an alien. Zonad soon finds that he is popular with the men and even more so with the rather busty women in the village. We soon learn, however, that there is a darker side to our hero Zonad: he is, in fact, on the run from enforced alcoholic rehabilitation. That should make this movie a perfect example of how...

Review: It’s been a while since a breezy, British action comedy has arrived on U.S. shores; their heyday being in the ‘80s when such titles like “A Fish Called Wanda” and “Time Bandits” held their place on the marquee.
When it comes to mobsters, guns and laughs, British director Jonathan Lynn knows a thing or two about crafting a crowd pleasing caper. Lynn is so good at it, Hollywood tapped him for his stylings with “The Whole Nine Yards,” “Sgt. A little bit of something for everyone, especially romantics, is found in this hilarious comedy. I.m just an old softie, but I greatly enjoyed the storyline about platonic love that features Bill Nighy as a boozy, burnt out rock star. It.s an anthology film with each story turning up in the other and they.re all lovely. Both Christmas and love are in the air in jolly old England. The film covers various stories of love. Aging rocker Billy Mack (Bill Nighy) is promoting his latest single, a Christmas variation on the Trogg.s Love is all Around, and playing havoc on his long suffering manager Joe (Gregor Fisher). Juliet (Kiera Knightley) and Peter (Chiwetel Ejiofor) have just been married...

Philip Seymour Hoffman, Bill Nighy and Nick Frost star in this Richard Curtis directed comedy that used to be called The Boat that Rocked. Kenneth Branagh and Rhys Ifans also star. But really, from early peaks it looks like the reason to see Pirate Radio is for that thick goatee Hoffman is sporting. This is a period piece set in the 60s about an illegal radio station and the emerging pop music.
Richard Curtis is the man behind Love Actually, a film I watch every year with my wife. It’s surprising, but this is only the second film Curtis has directed.
Philip Seymour Hoffman talks about being The Count, and his approach to being a DJ.
Bill Nighy (who also starred in Curtis’ Love Actually) talks about how he got involved in the project.
Nick Frost (Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead) is not Gregor Fisher who played opposite Nighy in Love Actually.

Rupert Grint, best known for his role as Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter franchise and winning the Celebrity Love Awards of 2007 on our website, is having an exciting year, with no less than three movies released in 2009: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Cherrybomb (a gritty Irish indie thriller), and Wild Target (a remake of the 1993 French comedy Cible Emouvante.) We haven't heard any news regarding Rupert Grint's latest film Wild Target in a while, except that it is still in post-production. Well, here's a trace of hope that we'll be hearing more about it soon! Laura has discovered an article which suggests that the film, directed by Jonathan Lynn and starring Bill Nighy, Emily Blunt, Rupert Grint, Rupert Everett, Martin Freeman, Gregor Fisher and Eileen Atkins, will be "available for delivery" in July 2009! We suppose this means that editing will be finished and the movie will be put up for sale or distribution in less than four months. So hopefully we'll get the first Wild Target trailer around that time as well! We'll keep you updated of course. Source: Variety (and judging by the title of the article, it seems that Wild Target was promoted in Berlin at the European Film Market, where Cherrybomb was screened as well!

The return of Rab C Nesbitt for a one-off special delivered a healthy audience last Tuesday, December 23. The Scottish comedy, starring Gregor Fisher as the titular alcoholic, drew 3.43m (14.4%) for BBC Two over 45 minutes from 9pm, denting the audience for the conclusion of BBC One's Survivors. The series finale of the post-apocalyptic drama was down 1.2m week-on-week to just 4.2m (17.6%) in the hour. Over its six episodes Survivors has averaged a respectable 5.19m (21.4%) and a second series has already been commissioned. Winning the 9pm slot was ITV1's The Bill, which took 4.42m (18.6%) for its Christmas episode. Both Channel 4 and Five also posted strong numbers for the hour, with the former's Country House Rescue taking 2.12m (8.9%). On Five, the season finale of CSI: Miami appealed to 2m (8.4%).
