Swiss film startup FinFilm, an innovative platform that finances European and African film projects, has boarded the Sky Original family adventure film “Robin and the Hoods.”
The Zurich-based company is actively involved in co-financing the film as a gap lender.
Produced by Silver Reel and Future Artists Entertainment and directed by Phil Hawkins, the modern-day tale inspired by the hero of Sherwood Forest features James Bond star Naomi Harris, Gwendoline Christie (“Game of Thrones”), Mark Williams (“Harry Potter”) and Darcey Ewart in the lead role as the 11-year-old Robin.
When an unscrupulous developer (Harris) threatens their magical kingdom of overgrown bushes at the end of their cul-de-sac, the tenacious Robin and her loyal friends, the “Hoods,” take matters into their own hands to save their beloved woodland.
“Robin and the Hoods” is produced by Claudia Bluemhuber, managing partner at Zurich-based Silver Reel and Matt Williams of Future Artists Entertainment in London.

One of my all-time favorite folklore heroes is the legendary outlaw from Sherwood Forest, Robin Hood. I remember reading a lot of his books as a kid and how I got so attached to the idea of this character being a hero. A thief as the hero of his own story? I suppose that’s common with all characters, both good and bad, but this story was different. Whenever I read a story about the legend of Robin Hood, I always picture a man wearing Lincoln green, armed with a bow and arrow ready to fire. But the outlaw never works

Robin Hood, the heroic outlaw famed for stealing from the rich and giving to the poor, is enjoying something of a renaissance in Hollywood of late.
For one, there’s the Taron Egerton-fronted reboot Robin Hood: Origins, which recently entered production in Budapest, Hungary. Lionsgate is fostering that particular remake, while Hood, a Fast and Furious-styled redo, has found a home over at Sony. Last and certainly not least, Disney is reportedly making progress – slow progress, but progress nonetheless – on Nottingham & Hood.
As if the Sherwood Forest wasn’t busy enough, Deadline now brings word of a new project set within the Robin Hood universe. It’s called Marian, and has already tapped Margot Robbie to headline as the iconic Maid Marian. Sony reportedly landed rights to Pete Barry’s hot script following a heated bidding war, and has now appointed Donald De Line and Amy Pascal to produce.

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword isn’t the only rebooted folklore classic cramming up the pipeline – over at Lionsgate, Peaky Blinders director Otto Bathurst is currently overseeing development on Robin Hood: Origins, a gritty origin story in which Taron Egerton plays the skilled archer and swordsman.
Filming is now underway in Budapest, Hungary, and the first wave of set photos are here to prove it. First spotted by The Dubrovnik Times, the images above offer but a fleeting glimpse of Egerton in costume as the legendary outlaw, who can be seen puckering up for a kiss with Maid Marian (Eve Hewson). Flanked by scores of extras and other cast members, it’s safe to assume Bathurst and the production team have kicked off with one of the film’s final scenes, after Hood and Co. have successfully robbed from the rich at the benefit of the poor.

Lionsgate has located its Friar Tuck for Robin Hood: Origins – and not a moment too soon.
With the studio expected to set up production in Budapest, Hungary over the coming weeks, it’s been revealed that Aussie actor, comedian and musician Tim Minchin has closed a deal to play one of Robin Hood’s closest allies in the fight against the English crown. Kingsman: The Secret Service breakout Taron Egerton is attached to play the cunning thief – one famed for stealing from the rich and giving to the poor – and will spearhead an ensemble cast comprised of Ben Mendelsohn (Rogue One) as the Sheriff of Nottingham, Eve Hewson as Maid Marian, Jamie Dornan (Fifty Shades Darker) as Will Scarlett and, finally, Jamie Foxx as Little John.
Screenwriter Joby Harold turned in the script for Robin Hood: Origins, which has since been described as a “real revisionist version” of the folklore classic.

Competing films in Hollywood are nothing new. We’ve seen it many times before, whether it be Olympus Has Fallen and White House Down, Mirror, Mirror and Snow White and the Huntsman, No Strings Attached and Friends with Benefits or countless others. It’s a common trend and one that looks to continue in the near future. That’s because the iconic story of Robin Hood is gearing up for the big screen treatment once again and will be arriving from a couple of different studios.
First up, we’ve got Lionsgate’s Robin Hood which, from what we’ve heard, will be a mature origin story for the character. On the opposite side of the spectrum, there’s Nottingham & Hood from Disney, which will be a family friendly adventure. Then, somewhere in between, we’ve got Sony’s take on the tale, which is apparently titled Hood and said...

Otto Bathurst is picking up the reins for this ‘gritty’ new telling of the folk legend, and Lionsgate are looking for the team to gel sufficiently that a franchise may well follow.

Tony Robinson’s revisionist Robin Hood children’s comedy series, out now on limited edition DVD, was a hoot…
In the mid-eighties, my teenage sister amused herself by teaching me to say “a woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle”. Not being a six-year-old well-versed in the rhetorical techniques of social emancipation, I didn’t get it. (I’d seen a flea circus; why mightn’t fish find a use for bikes?) My feminist awakening was obviously going to have to wait.
See related DC Comics movies: upcoming UK release dates calendar Batman V Superman: where does it leave the Justice League? Batman V Superman: Michael Shannon fell asleep watching it Zack Snyder interview: Batman V Superman
But not long, it turned out. One copy of Babette Cole’s Princess Smartypants picked from the Year Three reading table later and I was feeling pretty woke.

After assembling a who’s who of Hollywood talent, Robin Hood: Origins has finally set sights on an official release date: March 23, 2018.
Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment made the announcement yesterday evening, confirming that Kingsman: The Secret Service breakout Taron Egerton will take up arms as the legendary outlaw in two years’ time. Angled as a darker, grittier take on the folklore legend, Otto Bathurst of Peaky Blinders fame is on board to direct, and will usher Robin Hood back to the Sherwood Forest at a time when Hood’s rightful home has fallen prey to corruption and evil. Rather than stealing from the rich and giving to the poor, Egerton’s title hero sets about assembling a band of outlaws, as they rise up against the corrupt English crown. Jamie Foxx (Little John), Jamie Dornan (Will Scarlett), and Eve Hewson (Maid Marian) also star.

Pushed to accommodate Taron Egerton’s involvement in Kingsman: The Golden Circle, it would appear that Otto Bathurst’s shelved Robin Hood: Origins is once again back on track over at Lionsgate, after The Hollywood Reporter revealed today that Fifty Shades stalwart Jamie Dornan is on the verge of landing a key role.

Production on Lionsgate’s trip back to Sherwood Forest may have been placed on the back-burner in favor of the upcoming sequel to Kingsman: The Secret Service, though Deadline has brought proof that Robin Hood: Origins is quietly marching forward in development with the casting of Jamie Foxx as Little John, one of the many Merry Men set to rob from the rich and give to the poor in 2017.

With the recent success of Disney's live-action films based on their classic animated films (and many of those being inspired or adapted from fables or fairy tales), it's no surprise that other studios are continuing to tap into properties that are in the public domain in an effort to capitalize on the public's perceived desire to see these stories rehashed over and over again on the big screen. The trend will continue with Robin Hood: Origins, a Lionsgate film that's set to tell a Batman Begins-style origin of the hero of Sherwood Forest that has Kingsman: The Secret Service's Taron Egerton in place the title character.

Robin Hood: Origins has found its Maid Marian.
The Knick star Eve Hewson will follow in the footsteps of Olivia de Havilland, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio and Cate Blanchett in playing the outlaw's love interest.

Despite the many and varied interpretations of the Robin Hood legend through the years, studios can’t get enough of the outlaw, and there have been several versions of his story drifting through development in the last couple of years. Lionsgate has pulled ahead with Robin Hood: Origins, which has Kingsman’s Taron Egerton trying on Lincoln Green. The company has found him a Maid Marian in Eve Hewson. Winning the role over a big list of possible candidates, Hewson is aboard for what is being planned as a gritty, revisionist take on Hood’s story, with Joby Harold providing the script and Peaky Blinders’ Otto Bathurst directing. Marion will presumably not have found what she’s looking for until she meets Hood and love comes tumbling in Sherwood Forest, where the streets have no name. With corruption rampant and a hero’s series badly needed in god’s country,...

Deadline has the scoop, and they revealed that the studio’s exhaustive casting process meant that no fewer than 100 candidates were considered for the part – quite the coup for Hewson, then. She’ll star opposite Kingsman: The Secret Service‘s Taron Egerton in the reboot-cum-origins tale. As per Lionsgate’s recent reshuffling, Robin Hood: Origins won’t enter production until after Vaughn and Egerton wraps with the Kingsman sequel, meaning director Otto Bathurst won’t be stepping behind the lens until the summer of 2016 at the earliest.

Irish-born actress Eve Hewson ("Bridge of Spies," "The Knick") has scored the lead role of Maid Marian in Otto Bathurst's "Robin Hood: Origins" film for Lionsgate.
Joby Harold penned the origin-style tale in which Robin returns from fighting in The Crusades and finds that Sherwood Forest is rife with corruption and evil. He forms a band of outlaws and they take matters into their own hands.
Reportedly over one-hundred young actresses were considered for the highly coveted gig, with Hewson beating out the likes of Gaite Jansen, Lucy Fry and Gugu Mbatha-Raw for the part.
Shooting is slated to begin next Summer once leading man Taron Egerton wraps up his commitments to the "Kingsman: The Secret Service" sequel.

The very moment up-and-coming actor Taron Egerton was tapped for Lionsgate’s Robin Hoods: Origins, it was almost inevitable that his casting would create a knock-on effect to Fox’s anticipated sequel Kingsman 2 – a film which he’s also a core part of. Fast forward to today and our early apprehensions have been confirmed, with the decision being made to prioritize Matthew Vaughn’s action follow-up ahead of the men in tights.
That’s according to The Hollywood Reporter, with today’s news bringing to an end a duelling schedule that at one point appeared to threaten Egerton’s involvement in Kingsman 2, as Vaughn was allegedly ready to push ahead with or without the actor. Prior to Lionsgate’s reshuffling, Robin Hood: Origins had been slated to enter production in February of 2016, throwing a potential spanner in the works considering that Kingsman 2 was slotted for an April start.

A new take on the Robin Hood legend has various studios in an arms race to fling a movie into cinemas first. In this case, it’s with bows and arrows, and Lionsgate is pulling ahead. Kingsman: The Secret Service’s Taron Egerton is the man the studio wants in Lincoln Green, and early talks have started.Deadline cautions that “early” is the key word here, and both sides are nowhere close to a deal. But should he finally spill ink on a contract, Egerton will be playing a take on Sherwood Forest’s finest outlaw in a film scripted originally by Knights Of The Round Table: King Arthur writer Joby Harold, who has pumped out a story that purports to show how the title character returns from the Crusades to discover Sherwood Forest and the surrounding area teeming with corruption and crime. Almost two-and-a-half decades since Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves delved into the iconic history of the titular man in tights, Lionsgate is pushing ahead with a whole new take on the heroic outlaw with Robin Hood: Origins, and according to Deadline, the studio may have just found its leading man in Taron Egerton.

Film, TV and games companies have big plans for legendary tights-wearer Robin Hood. Here’s our primer on all the new versions…
Note: we've taken images from old Robin Hood projects because these new films and things, um, don't exist yet. Maximum geek points to whoever can remember what they're all from.
You don’t need us to remind you, but these days Hollywood and TV executives seem to have one target in mind – big franchises, hopefully with spin-offs and tie-ins galore across all possible forms of media.
An interesting consequence of all this is that the entertainment industry has begun looking beyond capes and cowls in their ‘what can we make a franchise out of?’ discussions. ‘What about other sorts of legendary characters?’ you can imagine them asking, before a big eureka moment… ‘What about Robin bloody Hood?!’
Almost simultaneously, it seems like every studio in Hollywood has latched...

Although none of the other films based on the character have come to fruition yet, that isn’t stopping Warner Bros. from hopping on board the Robin Hood bandwagon, headed straight for Sherwood Forest.Yes, we have origin stories and revisionist takes in development, but clearly Warner Bros., writer Will Beall and producers Dan Lin and John Zaozirny think there might just be more to say about the Merry Men. Nothing is known about what that might be yet, not even a basic description of its take on the character.
