On the Spot Broadway Comedy Club, NYC Monday nights, 8:00 Pm
In the olden days ("Tell us great-grandfather") there was vaudeville, where young performers could cut their teeth, playing on the various circuits all around the country. So where do emerging singers and comedians get their time before an audience in this strangest of all eras? Of course there's the web, but tweeting responses or comments below a YouTube video do not in my opinion constitute a flesh and blood audience--those hearty folk who make an effort to move their bodies into a performance space, and let a singer or comedian know in no uncertain terms if they've "got it."
Handsomely patrician actor, Nathan Armstrong took it upon himself to create a venue in which the energy and exuberance of those on the quest for stardom can indeed show what they go -- in abundance. On the Spot is a...

Barely five months after replacing its morning crew, the "CBS Early Show" has fired its producer, David Friedman, as the show tries to move in a more hard-news direction and focus more on original reporting. The move came on the same day the top-rated morning show, NBC's "Today," announced the exit of co-anchor Meredith Vieira and promotions for Ann Curry, Natalie Morales, and Samantha Guthrie. Both the "Early Show" and ABC's "Good Morning America" hope to siphon off the show's viewers. Also read: Meredith Vieira Announces 'Today' Exit; Ann Curry to Replace...

CBS News abruptly gave "The Early Show" a complete makeover Tuesday, replacing co-hosts Harry Smith and Maggie Rodriguez and installing its current Saturday anchor team of Chris Wragge and Erica Hill. The network is also replacing weather forecaster Dave Price with Marysol Castro, formerly of ABC's "Good Morning America" weekend edition, and adding Jeff Glor as the regular news reader.

Our deepest condolences go out to fans of of CBS' "The Early Show," because the morning news broadcast is getting a face-lift. Co-anchors Harry Smith and Maggie Rodriguez and weather forecaster Dave Price are out. So who are their replacements?
CBS is keeping it in the family, promoting Chris Wragge and Erica Hill from the Saturday "Early Show." Hill, who's the current news reader for the weekday show, will relinquish those duties to Jeff Glor, Saturday's "CBS Evening News" anchor and a reporter from "The Early Show." Finally, Marysol Castro, formerly of ABC's "Good Morning America" weekend edition, will take over weather.
"Erica, Chris, Marysol and Jeff are four accomplished broadcasters who already have proven track records and loyal followings," "Early Show" executive producer David Friedman says. "This group is the perfect combination of intelligence and personality for morning television."
"The Early Show" has been a perpetual third-place finisher in the network morning-show ratings,...

New York -- Last week, nobody knew Steve Slater.
Now, office water coolers, Twitter feeds, Facebook and chat rooms are buzzing with expressions of support and the question: What's next for the flight attendant who quit his JetBlue job in such memorable fashion that some have called him an instant American hero?
Heroic or not, the story of Slater's confrontation with a misbehaving passenger has swept through Madison Avenue and Hollywood in addition to Main Street.
Slater's story has the most immediate effect on TV news organizations, with broadcast networks and CNN among outlets trying to book him for interviews. A media scrum followed Slater's brief jail stay. "Good Morning America" producers jumped into the same car as Slater, but he made them get out.
An ABC News spokeswoman said Wednesday that the producers had done nothing unusual and simply were chasing the story as their peers were.

David Friedman has been named executive producer of CBS' "The Early Show," effective in January.
He replaces Zev Shalev, who left the third-rated morning program to launch an online venture.
"David's wide-ranging talents and experience in news, entertainment and primetime specials will be enormous assets to the broadcast and to CBS News," said CBS News president Sean McManus, who also referenced the personnel change at ABC's "Good Morning America," where George Stephanopoulos is replacing departing Diane Sawyer.
"The change in the competitive landscape is a terrific opportunity for us to bring on an experienced and creative executive producer with a fresh approach and a demonstrated track record of success."
Friedman, who spent six years at the "Today" show, has been with NBC in a number of roles since 1993, most recently as executive producer of "Last Call with Carson Daly."
He also executive produces NBC's New Year's Eve special broadcast and...
