- Graduated from Columbia University with a Bachelors of Science degree in 1921.
- Worked as a motion picture critic for the New York Daily News, 1922-1923.
- Probably best remembered for his writing contribution to The Pride of the Yankees (1942) starring Gary Cooper, the true story of baseball player Lou Gehrig. Gallico was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Writing, Original Story. He also wrote the novel that was later adapted into the smash hit The Poseidon Adventure (1972) starring Gene Hackman and Ernest Borgnine.
