Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 4 cannot seem to shake off the chaos surrounding its production. Sony and Marvel would love to bring back the web-slinger for a fourth film, as it was Spider-Man: No Way Home that gave their respective last billion-dollar film. However, the film hasn’t locked a director yet, with Jon Watts stepping away from the duties. One of the latest rumors suggested that Sam Raimi, the director of the original Spider-Man film series, will be helming the film.
Tom Holland’s next Spider-Man film after No Way Home gets an upsetting update
However, one industry insider could confirm from his sources that Raimi is not a choice for the studios. The news is upsetting to some fans, who were excited about the director’s potential involvement due to the popularity of Tobey Maguire’s films.

The next live-action Spider-Man film is said to be shooting in September, and there’s another rumour that Sam Raimi is going to direct it.
Following a report earlier this week that Marvel and Sony’s sequel to Spider-Man: No Way Home is to begin filming this September, along comes a new rumour that Sam Raimi is stepping in as director. If true, it’d be a popular choice given that he made such a successful – even genre-defining – Spider-Man trilogy of his own from 2002 onwards.
The latest whisper comes to us via World of Reel, which reports that Raimi is “in contention” to direct the upcoming film, with the other directors in the running said to be Marvel regular Jon Favreau, and John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein – directors of last year’s cheerfully entertaining fantasy Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves.

[Editor’s note: This list was originally published in 2017. It has since been updated many times.]
With everything going the way it is in the world right now, we’re laughing to keep less cheery emotions at bay. At least this bizarre, still-very-much-in-progress century has already produced a slew of spectacular, silly, snarky, and cynical comedies: ready to fire up whenever you need a serotonin burst or distraction thanks to the ever-growing cadre of streaming services.
The pandemic may be in the rearview for the U.S. federal government, but the specter of war, a tortured economy, and human rights issues across the globe have occupied the minds of many instead. So, in desperate need of some humor, we thought it was more important than ever to give our Greatest Comedies of the 21st Century list, originally published in 2017, yet another rethink. Since the list was originally published, we’ve expanded it to 90 entries, including titles released since then that deserved including and other titles we somehow overlooked the first time.

News that “Bridgerton” star Regé-Jean Page will not appear in the upcoming second season set the internet aflame on Friday.
“It’s a one-season arc. It’s going to have a beginning, middle, end — give us a year,” Page, who played Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings, told Variety exclusively, recounting early conversations with Shondaland producers. “[I thought] ‘That’s interesting,’ because then it felt like a limited series. I get to come in, I get to contribute my bit and then the Bridgerton family rolls on.”
In the spirit of “rolling on,” viewers have another burning question: What’s Page doing next?
The actor has a relatively full dance card, having nabbed roles in a couple of high-profile films, including the Russo brothers’ “The Gray Man.” Page recently wrapped filming on the Netflix spy thriller starring Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans. Rounding out the big-budget project’s starry ensemble are Billy Bob Thornton,...

Taran Killam (Single Parents) is set as a lead opposite Elizabeth Hurley and Hannah Simone in CBS comedy pilot Welcome To Georgia, from Fam and In the Dark creator Corinne Kingsbury, Spider-Man: Homecoming writers John Francis Daley & Jonathan Goldstein, Trill TV, Kapital Entertainment and CBS Studios.
Written by Kingsbury, Daley and Goldstein, the semi-autobiographical comedy is about a daughter and her mom. When Penelope’s (Simone) career takes off at exactly the same time as her husband’s, they call on Penelope’s (Simone) young single mom, Georgia (Hurley), to help raise their son, but what they find is Georgia needs more raising than their kid.
Killam will play Josh, Penelope’s (Simone) husband, father to their toddler son, Levi, and an airline pilot who loves his job. Josh is a bit more tolerant of Penelope’s mother, Georgia (Hurley), and tends to cut her more slack.

It feels like the development of a television show or movie based on the popular board game “Dungeons & Dragons” has been in development since time immemorial. Now, we might be one step closer. Derek Kolstad, the man behind the Keanu Reeves-starring “John Wick” franchise has been tapped to write and develop a pitch for a live-action TV series based on the game. Kolstad is said to be one of many writers being courted to work within the universe.

Just a couple of weeks before Wonder Woman 1984 hits screens, Chris Pine has found his next big movie. Deadline’s revealed that the Star Trek actor’s signed up to lead Paramount’s Dungeons & Dragons adaptation. Based on the bestselling game, the studio is partnering up with Hasbro and eOne for the film, which is directed by Game Night duo Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daly.
Goldstein and Daly, who also penned the script for Marvel’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, were behind the aforementioned 2018 dark comedy and they’ll be bringing a similar sensibility to this D&d movie, as it’s said to take “a subversive approach” to the game. The filmmaking pair will be directing their own screenplay, which was based on an earlier draft from Michael Gilio. Jeremy Latcham, meanwhile, is on board to produce.
Dungeons & Dragons will feature an ensemble cast, though only Pine has been announced as of yet.

Having first been announced in October 2014 along with a number of other Dceu projects, most of which were never made including Ben Affleck’s The Batman, Cyborg and Green Lantern Corps, fans have been waiting patiently to see The Flash for a long time now. With all of the talk surrounding the impending returns of both Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck as Batman, the Flash has found himself in danger of becoming the forgotten man of his own solo movie. The project has been in development since October 2014 and star Ezra Miller has remained the only constant throughout, as countless writers and directors signed on over the years only to swiftly drop out.
There was even speculation that Miller might not end up being involved, with Warner Bros. reportedly coming very close to giving the 27 year-old his marching orders following the huge backlash that greeted a viral video of the actor choking out a female fan. However, it appears that the Fantastic Beasts star is safe for now, and The Flash looks to be moving full steam ahead.

Barry Allen is getting some spiffy new spandex.
Warner Bros. and DC teased “The Flash” at Saturday’s DC FanDome, bringing out Ezra Miller, the actor who plays the speedster on screen, and showing concept art for the character’s new and improved suit. The new duds are courtesy of Bruce Wayne, the billionaire brainiac best known for donning Batman’s cape and cowl, and the man who designed Barry’s costume.
“It’s more organic, you can see light embedded in it,” said director Andy Muschietti. The exciting news for fanboys and fangirls is that “The Flash” will introduce the concept of the multiverse — allowing various iterations of DC heroes from both the big and small screen to interact in one narrative adventure.
“All of these stories and characters can start to collide,” said screenwriter Christina Hodson, adding. “The cinematic multiverse is going to be born out of this movie.

The road to get Ezra Miller’s standalone Flash movie made has been a long one, but the panel for the film at today’s virtual DC FanDome event made it clear the movie is firmly on track and heading toward its summer 2022 release date. Miller appeared at the event alongside director Andy Muschietti, producer Barbara Muschietti, and screenwriter Christina Hodson, who most recently penned Margot Robbie’s “Birds of Prey.” Concept art for the film was revealed at the DC FanDome event showing the new suit worn by the Flash, which was made by Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck).
Miller made his debut as Barry Allen/The Flash in the DC Extended Universe with brief cameos in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.” The character had a more primary role in the follow-up movie, “Justice League.” Warner Bros. announced in October 2014 it was developing a standalone Flash movie with Ezra,...

Grant Morrison has been chatting about his time working on The Flash movie with its still-attached star, Ezra Miller. The two united to pen their own script for the Scarlet Speedster solo project back in the early months of 2019 after “a clash of creative visions” with the film’s previous directing team, John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein of Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Morrison opened up about his attempt at writing The Flash in a new interview with Collider while promoting his new Peacock series Brave New World.
“Ezra Miller and I wrote that [script] last year,” he said. “I thought we had a really good version of The Flash and we wrote it as fast as The Flash, because it was so demanding, and it was pretty good. And I think after a few drafts, it would have been great. But the way some studios work, these things just come and go.

Not long ago, it looked like we’d never see Cyborg in the Dceu again, but the news of Zack Snyder’s Justice League being on the way has been followed by a bunch of additional reports and rumors saying that it could lead to Ray Fisher’s unexpected return to the franchise. Case in point, this new claim that he may turn up in Ezra Miller’s Flash movie.
While a Cyborg solo film was put on ice years back, a vehicle for the Scarlet Speedster has managed to power ahead, despite numerous false starts, and it’s now due to start shooting once Hollywood pulls itself together after the pandemic. What’s more is that according to insider Daniel Richtman, Cyborg could have some sort of role in the production, with Fisher’s Victor Stone apparently turning up to help out his fellow Leaguer, Barry Allen.

Entertainment One has set a first-look agreement with producer Jeremy Latcham, who previously served as Svp Production and Development at Marvel Studios. With the recent eOne acquisition by Hasbro, the new partnership will boost eOne’s ability to produce mainstream film and TV content mined from Hasbro’s existing IP.
The first project on deck under the newly formed deal will be Dungeons & Dragons, which has Game Night helmers Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley attached to write and direct. The IP is managed by Wizards of the Coast, a Hasbro subsidiary that also manages Magic: The Gathering.
Goldstein and Daley co-wrote the script Spider-Man: Homecoming, on which Latcham served as an exec producer during his 13-year tenure at Marvel. For a character that dubs themselves the Fastest Man Alive, there’s a hint of irony in the fact that development on the Dceu’s Flash solo movie has moved at a snail’s pace. Seth Grahame-Smith, Rick Famuyiwa and John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein have all been attached to direct at various points since the project was first announced almost six years ago, with the script passing through multiple writers in the process.

Andy Muschietti is the man currently tasked with bringing The Flash to the big screen, with a July 2022 release date penciled in. However, if you’ve been tracking development of the Scarlet Speedster’s solo debut, then you’ll know that nothing can be taken for granted. After all, the It director is simply the latest in a long line of filmmakers to have signed onto the project with previous incumbents Seth Grahame-Smith, Rick Famuyiwa and John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein all having departed over the last several years.

Amid all the strange and troubling news currently clogging up our timelines, Ezra Miller found himself thrust into the blinding glare of the Internet’s spotlight late Sunday night, when video footage appeared to show him choking a woman and wrestling her to the ground at a bar in Reykjavik, Iceland.
Fair warning: the footage is alarming – indefensible, really – and there’s still no sign of an official statement from Warner Bros. (or indeed Miller) at the time of writing.
That’s bad enough, but over on Twitter, director John Francis Daley, who was once attached to helm Warner’s standalone Flash movie, has posted a rather interesting tweet in light of the aforementioned viral video. It’s only two words long: “creative differences.”

Ezra Miller was first cast as Barry Allen in October 2014, and despite having held the role of the Flash for almost six years, he hasn’t really been able to do a lot with it. The actor’s most substantial part in the costume was in Justice League’s ensemble, but apart from that he’s been reduced to brief cameo roles in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad and a surprise appearance in the Arrowverse’s recent “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover event.
Part of the reason for this is that the character’s proposed solo movie has been mired in development hell, with Seth Grahame-Smith, Rick Famuyiwa and filmmaking duo John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein all signing on to direct before dropping out over the last few years. Hannah Simone and Elizabeth Hurley have been cast in the lead roles of the untitled CBS comedy pilot from Corinne Kingsbury, John Francis Daley, and Jonathan Goldstein, Variety has learned. Both women will also serve as producers on the show in addition to starring.
In the show, when Penelope’s (Simone) career takes off at exactly the same time as her husband Josh’s (not yet cast), they call on Penelope’s young single mom, Georgia (Hurley), to help raise their son, but what they find is Georgia needs more raising than their kid.
Penelope is further described as a smart, hard-working producer at a sports TV network, wife to airline pilot Josh, and mother of their challenging toddler, Levi. Georgia is said to be in her late 40s but looks and acts much younger. Fun-loving and a bit immature, she doesn’t have the best judgment, especially when it comes to men.

New Girl alumna Hannah Simone and The Royals‘ Elizabeth Hurley have been tapped as the leads a CBS’ multi-camera comedy pilot from Fam and In the Dark creator Corinne Kingsbury, Spider-Man: Homecoming writers John Francis Daley & Jonathan Goldstein, Trill TV, Kapital Entertainment and CBS TV Studios. Simone and Hurley will also serve as producers on the pilot, which vetrean multi-cam director Pam Fryman is set to direct and executive produce.
The semi-autobiographical comedy is about a daughter and her mom. When Penelope’s (Simone) career takes off at exactly the same time as her husband’s, they call on Penelope’s young single mom, Georgia comes to help and turns her well-ordered world upside down.
Hurley’s Georgia is fun-loving and a bit immature; she doesn’t have the best judgment, especially when it comes to men. Georgia had Penelope when she was 17, and although she was a warm and loving single mom, their roles have reversed a bit now that Penelope is an adult. When Georgia becomes the babysitter to Penelope’s toddler, she might get a chance to redeem herself, but then again chaos tends to follow her.
Kingsbury co-wrote the script with her husband, Daley, and his writing partner, Goldstein. The three executive produce with Fryman, Kapital Entertainment’s Kaplan and Dana Honor and TrillTV’s Trilling.
Simone, who has been in demand since she came off her seven-year run on New Girl, starred in back-to-back pilots for ABC, the Untitled Hannah Simone project, which she also co-created and executive produced, and Greatest American Hero. Simone is repped by UTA, Alpita Patel Management and Ziffren Brittenham.
Hurley recently played Morgan le Fay in Season 3 of Marvel’s Runaways on Hulu. Previously, she starred as Queen Helena in the E! series The Royals and recurred on the CW’s Gossip Girl. On the film side, Hurley appeared opposite Gerard Depardieu in Viktor. She is repped by UTA.

Dungeons & Dragons is officially cool now. What was once largely mocked by mass media is having something of a renaissance. Wizards of the Coast estimates there are 40 million players worldwide, their sales are up 25% year on year and Hollywood stars like Joe Manganiello are running sessions for producers and directors. While the game has been on the up for a while, most people put its recent rise in popularity down to being featured heavily in Stranger Things.
With all this buzz about the property and fantasy currently being in vogue, it’s no surprise that Paramount have begun pre-production on a new Dungeons & Dragons movie. Information is thin on the ground at the moment though, with only a vague plot summary telling us that it will be about a band of warriors setting out on a quest to find some kind of magical treasure. So, pretty much the standard D&d campaign then.
