- Born in Poland, Joseph Greenberg first came to the United States with a Yiddish acting company in 1924. In 1935 he made the first of four films in the tradition of the Yiddish cinema, but expanding that tradition to create polished performances with wide appeal. In 1937, following the success of the initial _Yidl Mitn Fidl (1935)_, he embarked on a feverish race to finish three more films over a 12 month period. He told Jewish Week in 1985 that "time was running out - we had to get as much as possible of that charming creative life in Poland". He returned briefly to the stage during WW II, producing two plays in the Yiddish Art Theater in New York, but he never returned to film.- IMDb Mini Biography By: Bruce Cameron <dumarest@midcoast.com>
