Se7en never fails to find itself as one of the greatest thrillers ever made. The David Fincher movie starring Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman in the lead focuses on two cops trying to stop a serial killer, executing murders across the city according to the Biblical Seven Deadly Sins.
Brad Pitt as David Mills in 1995’s Se7en | New Line Cinema
From the plot to the performances and technical aspects, several aspects helped the film to be critically and commercially successful. However, one of the primary highlights of the film was its ending. Se7en‘s harrowing conclusion is still discussed heavily among pop culture enthusiasts.
Interestingly, Brad Pitt played a vital role in framing Se7en‘s ending. The Fight Club star ensured two non-negotiable conditions in his contract that did not let the makers change the ending midway.
How did Brad Pitt formulate the perfect ending for Se7en?...

Pop quiz hot shot: What’s the best action movie of the past 20 or 30 years that never received a cinematic sequel? Nope, it’s not Speed. Is it Wanted? Nobody? The Accountant? How about Knight and Day or American Made? While the latter comes from director Doug Liman, we’d argue that the correct answer is Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Liman’s eminently watchable assassin thriller that continues to shine thanks to the explosive chemistry between Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, two luminous movie stars who met and fell in love during production. Although the movie earned decent reviews and grossed nearly half a billion dollars worldwide, Mr. & Mrs. Smith never received an official sequel or cinematic spinoff and is often remembered for the juicy tabloid gossip surrounding its two superstars.
Yet, in 2024, a small-screen adaptation of Liman’s hit action flick has been produced by Amazon Prime Video,...

A decade before Knight and Day was released, a movie like it would have killed with audiences: Come on, it starred Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz and looked to perfectly mash humor and action in a way that so few male/female-led action-comedies had for years. Yet, it didn’t connect. But why? There are a lot of reasons, really, and not just, as Roy Miller would say, “one of those things.” Through lousy marketing, hokey promotion, poorly timed sneak previews, and even Katie Holmes, Knight and Day fizzled, less “beautiful dress” than beautiful mess…But it did at least inspire a Bollywood remake, so suck on that, Vanilla Sky! Let’s find out: What Happened to this Movie?!
Knight and Day began, as with so many Hollywood screenplays, as a spec script, or a work that is uncommissioned but written in hopes of selling it to a studio (think...

1999, a year of hope, a year of high fashion, nooo, no… 1999, the year when people prepared for Y2K, the year of all the odd choices when it came to fashion, and the year of interesting cinematic options. We got The Mummy which gave us all the hot cast members we could ask for and still gives us memes, we got End of Days, Stigmata, Idle Hands, House on Haunted Hill, The Haunting, Stir of Echoes, and The Blair Witch Project. It was a year for surprising hits, shocking failures, and offbeat horror films. So many smaller budgets did so well. The rumored couple worked together on the revival of the classic musical The Music Man until the beginning of this year.
While Hugh’s relationship with Sutton has only come into the limelight after his separation, a few reports have revealed new details that suggest that the couple was already together when the Wolverine actor was married to his now-separated wife Furness. There have been rumors swirling this week that Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster have been having a secret romance, but her latest Instagram post seems to debunk those claims.
A report from In Touch claims that “their romance is an open secret on Broadway.” The report added that Hugh “has been besotted with Sutton from the moment he met her. He followed her around like a puppy!”
If you didn’t know, Hugh and Sutton worked together on the Broadway musical The Music Man. The production was set to open in 2020, but then was delayed because of the pandemic. It began performances in December 2021 and then closed in January 2023 after a massively successful run.

Deadline has learned that Thomas Augsberger, Eden Rock Media founder, producer and international media consultant died suddenly today at his Hollywood Hills home. He was 60 years old.
The German-born and trained attorney advised a number of high-profile media clients over the years, most prominently Germany’s Leonine Studios. Prior to Leonine, Augsberger served 23 years as an advisor to Dr. Herbert Kloiber‘s Tele Muenchen Group as Tmg’s exclusive North American representative in the US.
In 2002, he founded Eden Rock Media, a film and television production company and media consulting business.
Augsberger was widely respected for his deep experience in the production and acquisition of feature films, television series, and content libraries; investments in US distributors and production companies; the co-financing, co-production, and distribution of film, television, and digital projects; and the negotiation of German output deals with studios for theatrical, home entertainment, and television. With Martin Scorsese on the mind following the triumphant Cannes premiere of Killers of the Flower Moon, I’ve been looking to catch up on the last few unseen films from the master, which led to the uncovering of a delightful, expertly crafted homage to the Master of Suspense. Shortly after the Oscar-winning success of The Departed in 2007, the story goes like this: Scorsese came across remnants of The Key to Reserva, an unproduced script written by Alfred Hitchcock. He set out to direct his version of it in the precise style of the late director. However, there is a twist.
The script wasn’t real. The whole endeavor, which feels like an elaborate film school exercise, was actually a campaign paid for by the champagne company Freixenet. Shot by Harris Savides, with assistance from Ellen Kuras, and edited by Thelma Schoonmaker, the film stars Simon Baker along with a...

Two years ago to this very day, Seth Rudetsky, the Broadway composer, musician, podcaster, host of a show on SiriusXM radio, fundraiser, musical cruise host, conveyer of pop culture trivia and, now, “source music consultant,” received a text from Craig Mazin, the screenwriter, director and producer. Mazin was friends with Ted Griffin, who is married to Sutton Foster, who knows, as does seemingly everybody else in musical theater, Rudetsky.
“I get this text,” Sudetsky remembers, “in all capital letters, saying It’S Emmy And Golden Globe Award Winning Craig Mazin. Stop What You’Re Doing. I Need Your Help.”
Specifically, Mazin needed a song for a TV episode he was working on, a show tune along the lines of “I Miss The Music” from the 2006 Kander & Ebb musical Curtains, only older.

The farther away we get from it, the more "Ocean's Twelve" looks like somewhat of a miracle to me. Steven Soderbergh, high off the success of winning Best Director for "Traffic" and the box office smash that was "Ocean's Eleven," had the ability to flex his power by taking a sequel that took a dramatic left turn away from the appeal of that first movie. Every sequel Hollywood cranks out is so much of "the first movie but more," but Soderbergh completely shakes up the style. Naturally, most people weren't into it, but those of us who were couldn't have been more thrilled.
Because the film is such a departure, the place they arrived at was obviously not the first instinct of the filmmakers when discussing a sequel. In fact, the screenwriter for "Ocean's Eleven," Ted Griffin, did not even come along for the sequel. However, that did not mean...

You can always count on horror to test boundaries, so it’s no surprise that the genre has long explored the taboo of cannibalism. Cannibals are most often associated with exploitation horror, leading to a cannibal horror boon in the ’70s and early ’80s, thanks to Italian horror filmmakers like Umberto Lenzi, Ruggero Deodato, and Joe D’Amato. But as the Video Nasty craze came and went and time evolved the genre, so did the depiction of cannibalism.
The ’90s brought horror’s most common depiction of cannibals out of the jungle and into society, largely thanks to The Silence of the Lambs’ Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins). The Academy Award-winning feature adapted Thomas Harris’ 1988 novel and introduced a supporting character so fascinating that he overshadowed the film’s actual antagonist, Buffalo Bill (Ted Levine). Protagonist Clarice Starling gets assigned to interview the incarcerated cannibalistic serial killer in the hopes that Dr.

Glass Onion Producer Ram Bergman Says There's Nothing Like Rian Johnson's Poker Face On TV Right Now
The runaway success of 2019's "Knives Out" all but singled-handedly ushered in a shiny era of playful, winking murder mysteries and whodunits, from "See How They Run" (read /FIlm's review of the film here) to "Only Murders in the Building" and the sequel "Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery." In a way, the first "Knives Out" movie also brought series writer/director Rian Johnson back to the roots of his first feature film: 2005's off-beat hardboiled noir meets Californian teen dramedy "Brick."
Am I saying this was all part of an elaborate plan Johnson's been working on for almost two decades? I'm not not saying that.
If you thought Johnson has satisfied his appetite for stories about eccentric sleuths solving murder-related crimes with his ongoing efforts on the "Knives Out" films, guess again. He's also created the Peacock series "Poker Face," a sort of spiritual successor to the long-running 1970s...

One of the gentle touches of “Pretend It’s a City” is that there are usually other people in the room where Fran Lebowitz and Martin Scorsese are chatting. Not just the crew members who worked on the Netflix doc series to record the conversation between two of New York City’s highest profile ambassadors, but — as shown when the camera pulls back at the beginning and end of a few episodes — a handful of other patrons standing by the bar or setting up shots at a nearby pool table.
That’s the “slice of New York life” element of “Pretend It’s a City” that gives this seven-episode season its best moments. Stitching together clips from public talks and b-roll of Lebowitz making her way across the streets of Manhattan, a majority of the series is centered in talks from opposite ends of a table. Netflix subscribers will be getting a late Christmas gift in the form of a “Pretend It’s a City,” a Martin Scorsese-directed documentary series that will premiere January 8 on the service. Netflix unveiled the trailer for the project on Monday.
Per Netflix, the limited documentary series’ synopsis reads:

Written by and directed by Griffin, Gone Hollywood was set in the 1980s and centered on a group of talent agents who defect from an old-guard percentery to launch their own, which skyrockets to industry dominance, disrupting the business and changing movies forever. Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of TV critics two questions and publishes the results on Tuesday. (The answer to the second, “What is the best show currently on TV?” can be found at the end of this post.)
This week’s question: What is the best one-and-done show, a.k.a. a One-Season Wonder? (This refers to shows that only got one season and tragically did not get renewed, as opposed to limited series that never intended to continue.)
Allison Keene (@KeeneTV), Collider
There are so many! But for me the best will always be “Freaks and Geeks.” It’s a show that I watched at an age before I really understood the whole TV renewal/cancellation process, but even then I knew it was unjustly short. The show was such a great blend of smarts, snark, and genuine emotions, in a way that could actually be painful to watch.

How much would you like to see a well-written scene of dialogue between Colin Farrell and Anthony Hopkins? It’s only a fraction of the feature film in question — in which Hopkins plays a tortured psychic helping some cops catch a motivated killer who is a psychic himself — but well worth the price of admission. As directed by Afonso Poyart, Solace opens after a shelved release following the near-death of Relativity Media. Rescued by Lionsgate Premiere, the film plays a lot like too-little-too-late, a sometimes-clever thriller with a couple of performances that rise above the material.
Written by Sean Bailey and Ted Griffin, this project was originally intended to be a sequel to the David Fincher film Seven. Though the final incarnation has nothing to do with the far-more impressive 1995 blockbuster, the genre elements are all still there. We’ve got two FBI agents working with the renowned John Clancy (Hopkins) but,...

Anthony Hopkins may be busy building Western-themed amusement parks in “Westworld,” but before he became Dr. Ford he was helping an FBI agent solve a a series of homicides in “Solace.” Lionsgate Premiere released the latest trailer for the psychological drama, which features Hopkins trying to get inside the killer’s mind.
Directed by Afonso Poyart, the thriller follows FBI Special Agent Joe Merriwether (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) after he enlists his former colleague Dr. John Clancy (Hopkins), a retired physician with physic powers, to help him track down a murderer. At first Clancy, who left his old life behind after the death of his daughter and subsequent break-up of his marriage, wants nothing to do with the case. He then changes his mind after seeing a disturbingly violent vision, which leads him to suspect Charles Ambrose (Colin Farrell). Though he soon realizes is that his abilities are no match against the killer.

There is potential good news for fans of the Terriers TV show, which was cancelled after one season of 13 episodes on FX. There was some serious talk at the Atx Television Festival this weekend about making a sequel movie. Deadline reports creator and Ep Ted Griffin said, "We may have investigated [a reboot]," during a “Canceled Too Soon” Terriers panel. "I think we would like to make a movie. And I think we have the idea sort of what we’d want to do, we just need to clear it with Fox [21 Television Studios]."

The 2010 FX series Terriers is one of my favorite shows, but it was cancelled after only one season because it was marketed terribly and couldn't attract a large enough audience to stay alive. But six years later, the show has become something of a cult hit thanks to people being able to stream it on Netflix, and at the Atx Television Festival, the creators teased a possible movie that would continue the story of down-and-out private investigator buddies Hank and Britt.
Addressing an audience from a panel on stage, Terriers creator/executive producer Ted Griffin told the crowd "We may have investigated" a reboot, and explained what he meant: “I think we would like to make a movie. And I think we have the idea sort of what we’d want to do, we just need to clear it with Fox.” Shawn Ryan, another executive producer on the series, chimed in: “There’s a couple of things we’d have to clear. Fox has the rights. This is the kind of show where I feel like if Donal [Logue] and Mikey [Michael Raymond-James] were up to it and Ted had the story he wanted to tell, this is the world we would definitely revisit, given the opportunity.”
If the rights situation can be worked out, I imagine a Netflix original movie would be the perfect way to continue this story. If only a few hundred thousand people were watching the show at its peak, it definitely doesn't make sense to make a huge Hollywood movie and put it in theaters nationwide, but a smaller budgeted direct-to-Netflix movie would be a nice way to give fans some closure and cap off the original thirteen episode run. I know I'd be thrilled to see that happen...how about you?
Other highlights from the panel:
Michael Raymond-James, who participated in the panel via Skype, joking about where his character Britt has been since the show's cliffhanger finale: "I’m Skyping you guys from some medium-security correctional facility that Britt’s been in these last six years."
Donal Logue on his experience making the show: “Michael and I talk about it all the time. It was the only job I’ve been on where I can’t really describe what it was like. I can’t distinguish myself from a character in this thing and a fan of this thing.”
The show is absolutely worth watching if you haven't seen it before. Here's one of FX's trailers, which doesn't even come close to showing the charm that the show possessed (again, the marketing was a big part of why nobody watched this show when it was on):

FX's critically acclaimed and cancelled before its time series "Terriers" may be making a comeback. The series followed an ex-cop and ex-con who start a P.I. business and was canned after one season, even though it has since become a major cult favorite.
Speaking at the Atx Festival this weekend, show producers Ted Griffin and Shawn Ryan teased that the show could be returning. He tells Deadline:
"We may have investigated [a revival]. I think we would like to make a movie. And I think we have the idea sort of what we'd want to do, we just need to clear it with Fox. There's a couple of things we'd have to clear. Fox has the rights. This is the kind of show where I feel like if [stars] Donal [Logue] and Mikey [Raymond-James] were up to it and Ted had the story he wanted to tell this is the world we would definitely revisit, given the opportunity."
Logue is a series regular on Fox's "Gotham" so his commitments to that may interfere with his ability to star should such a project go forward.

Among the terrific shows that audiences have feasted upon during the era of peak TV, FX‘s “Terriers” seemed to be just slightly ahead of its time. Critically acclaimed as it was, audiences didn’t tune into the drama about an ex-cop and ex-con who start a P.I. business, and the show was canceled after one season. […]

“Game of Thrones” creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss called the original pilot for their hit HBO series “one of the most painful experiences” of their lives. “It took us almost four years to get the pilot made,” said Benioff on the “Scriptnotes” podcast. “And we finished it. We’d been overseas for about seven months.” Then they showed the pilot to fellow screenwriters Craig Mazin, Ted Griffin, and Scott Frank. “Watching them watch that original pilot was one of the most painful experiences of my life,” he said. “I mean, it’s probably like appendicitis and that. And Craig,...
