G. Love & Special Sauce’s self-titled debut album was an out-of-left-field record upon its release in May 1994. An innovative concoction of rock, hip-hop, blues, and jazz music, its lead single “Cold Beverages” quickly overtook radio stations coast-to-coast that summer, but the band was none the wiser of its unusual, unexpected success.
“It was getting played on MTV, played on Beavis and Butt-Head,” G. Love tells Rolling Stone. “It was a hit record, but we didn’t know it was blowing up ‘cause we were doing 250 shows a year in a...

Daniel Kramer, a rock photographer who captured some of the most iconic Bob Dylan images of the Sixties, including the covers of Bringing It All Back Home and Highway 61 Revisited, died April 29, Rolling Stone confirmed. He was 91.
Kramer first encountered Bob Dylan when he watched him perform “The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll” on The Steve Allen Show in 1964. “The lyrics were startling to me,” he told Rolling Stone in 2016. “They were so poetic. I knew this wasn’t an ordinary event. I knew this guy was special.”

Jordan Peele has achieved, in a relatively short time, what many other directors only dream of achieving. Not only is Peele capable of crafting hits that deliver the goods both critically and commercially, but his name means something to audiences now. His ideas and his name are enough to sell a meaningful number of tickets, not unlike Quentin Tarantino or Christopher Nolan. It's rare air, and it's a powerful tool in Hollywood. There was a very specific moment where it became clear that Peele did, indeed, have this power, and it came in 2019 when "Us" hit theaters.
Before making himself known to the world as a visionary filmmaker, Peele broke out via comedy, primarily with his comedy sketch show "Key & Peele.

There have been a variety of "Jurassic Park" Lego sets released in recent years that pay tribute to Steven Spielberg's classic movie and the franchise it spawned. While many of them are geared toward kids looking to play with dinosaurs and various vehicles and settings inspired by the blockbuster franchise, there are a handful of sets intended for the more grown-up builder and collector. We've seen the Lego diorama version of the Tyrannosaurus rex attack on Dr. Alan Grant, Dr. Ian Malcolm, and John Hammond's grandchildren Lex and Tim, as well as a larger Lego set dedicated to the dinosaur theme park's iconic gates, complete with a big buildable T-rex. The latest collectible "Jurassic Park" set is a little more sophisticated.
Lego
Lego has released a "Jurassic World" branded dinosaur fossil set that lets fans build their own T-rex skull, not unlike the one that appears in the franchise's famous logo.

Welcome back, friends, to the latest episode of "As the Jurassic World Turns." When last we left our intrepid franchise (the one formerly known as "Jurassic Park"), it had just completed a trilogy of films with the "Jurassic World" rebrand moniker. Those films — 2015's "Jurassic World," 2018's "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom," and 2022's "Jurassic World Dominion," were made under the auspices of director/co-writer Colin Trevorrow (with J.A. Bayona taking over the directing duties for "Fallen Kingdom") and followed Trevorrow's outline, seeing John Hammond's dream of resurrecting dinosaurs for theme park purposes come to fruition and then go wildly out of control, resulting in the entire planet becoming overrun with once-extinct species.
Given the unfortunately tepid reception that "Dominion" received, Universal and Steven Spielberg's Amblin Partners decided to fast-track a follow-up. It's still not altogether clear what this new installment will be following up; it retains the "Jurassic World" title for now,...

The "Jurassic World" franchise is simply too big to go extinct. We recently learned that not only is Universal Pictures developing a seventh entry in the long-running dinosaur franchise, but the movie is set to hit theaters next summer. Yes, assuming the release date holds, we'll be seated for a new blockbuster in which humans and dinos try to co-exist in just over a year. For the moment, the studio is remaining very tight-lipped about the film, which opens the door for us to speculate wildly. That's precisely what we're going to do, while not going too off the rails with unfounded theorizing.
Rather, as a self-proclaimed super-fan of the franchise, I am going to take you, dear reader, through the options that can reasonably be considered, broadly speaking, following 2022's "Jurassic World Dominion." We're going to go over each broad possibility, as well as the pros and cons of each approach.

"Jurassic Park" is a movie that needs no introduction. One of the finest moments in the career of one of cinema's most celebrated filmmakers, Steven Spielberg's adaptation of Michael Crichton's novel of the same name remains one of the most important blockbusters of all time. It was one of the biggest box office hits ever when it was released, but also a movie that shaped the landscape of blockbuster filmmaking for decades to come. It was a hulking cinematic achievement and one that left some battle scars along the way.

During The Game Awards, Universal and Saber Interactive revealed something many, many "Jurassic Park" fans have been waiting a very long time for in the form of a brand new video game within the franchise. For 30 years, the "Jurassic Park" films have helped keep prehistoric beasts on the big screen, dating back to Steven Spielberg's original, groundbreaking blockbuster. Ever since, this has pretty much been the only game in town as far as dinosaurs go. Sure, other movies have tried to do dino action on a large scale, such as the recent Adam Driver sci-fi flick "65," but nothing ever seems to truly click with audiences in a meaningful way. At least not nearly on the level that these movies have for three decades.
Across three decades and spanning six films, the franchise has come a long way. For anyone looking to revisit the series, or perhaps anyone who fell off at some point and wishes to get back on board to see what John Hammond's dream of uniting dinosaurs and mankind together after 65 million years resulted in, we've got you covered. The phrase “they don’t make them like they used to” is thrown around a lot in the context of nostalgia, but in the case of the first teaser for Magic, it’s quite accurate. Imagine sitting around the TV with your family and seeing this commercial pop up on screen back in the 1970s. The simple but terrifying ad didn’t give away much about the actual plot, but it did instill a lot of traumatic nightmares for any young viewers that happened to catch it. The TV spot was so effective that it’s arguably scarier than the actual film; it wasn’t the straightforward horror story the teaser indicated but much more a psychological thriller. Released 45 years ago on November 8, 1978, Magic is an underappreciated classic and one of horror’s most unnerving love stories.

I remember the first time I saw dinosaurs roar to life on the big screen like it was yesterday. I was eleven years old and as I walked into the theater with a bag of popcorn and a large Coke, I was overcome with excitement. I rushed to get a good seat, right in the middle, and as soon as the first Brachiosaurus walked on the screen and John Hammond uttered those famous words, “Welcome to Jurassic Park,” my jaw dropped further than Dr. Grant’s. Holy shit. Yes, as an 11-year-old I thought,...

Thirty years ago, Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park hit big screens like a genetic-engineered atom bomb. When Spielberg first began imagining the potential of author Michael Crichton’s billion-dollar idea—one which the author shared with him in private before even revealing the concept to the public—the director saw the potential for a modern day King Kong. The comparison would be apt, too, because outside of that 1933 giant ape picture, few spectacles in the history of cinema have left such a big footprint on pop culture.
Still, it cannot be understated just how big Jurassic Park was in its day. While the advent of computer-generated effects had already begun, most famously several years beforehand in James Cameron’s Terminator 2, Jurassic Park’s cutting edge blending of animatronic creations from Stan Winston’s workshop with new CGI innovations at George Lucas’ Ilm astounded audiences and critics alike. Jurassic Park was nothing short of a phenomenon when it arrived in cinemas back in June 1993. Like Robert Muldoon being pursued by a pack of velociraptors, there was simply no escaping the clutches of what was a cultural phenomenon. But while much of the focus was on Steven Spielberg’s movie and its heady mix of stunning special effects and a shirtless Jeff Goldblum, what helped give Jurassic Park that extra bit of bite at the box office was the astonishing amount of merchandising surrounding the film.
Jurassic Park was ubiquitous that summer, whether it was the iconic Kenner line of toys featuring familiar characters from the film apart from Lex (blame Jurassic patriarchy), the Sega Genesis game that let you play as a raptor chomping on foolish humans, or the bizarre line of salami and beef jerky products that hit store shelves, life found a way.

Bruce Springsteen released his debut album in 1972, a decade after Bob Dylan released his first. Springsteen’s album was well-received by critics, but some reviews drove him to change up his writing style. Springsteen admired Dylan and had for years. Still, he didn’t want to put out music that sounded too much like him. Here’s why comparisons to Dylan convinced Springsteen to avoid this in the future.
Bruce Springsteen said 1 of his albums sounded like Bob Dylan
When Springsteen signed to Columbia Records, he was meant to put out music that sounded Dylan-esque.
“John Hammond, Clive Davis, and Columbia had thought they’d signed a folk singer-songwriter,” Springsteen wrote in his memoir Born to Run. “The stock was way up on singer-songwriters in those days. The charts were full of them, with James Taylor leading the pack. I was signed to Columbia, along with Elliott Murphy, John Prine and Loudon Wainwright,...

In 1964, the Animals released a version of “The House of the Rising Sun,” but Bob Dylan covered the song several years earlier. “The House of the Rising Sun” is a traditional folk song many artists have covered. Dylan’s version has a different arrangement than The Animal’s more famous version. It was not different, though, from musician Dave Van Ronk’s version. Dylan recorded the song with Van Ronk’s arrangement without asking him.

The DNA of the summer blockbuster will forever be infused with that of Steven Spielberg changed the game – an event movie that literally had people queueing down the street to watch it (hence the phrase ‘block-buster’), desperate to escape the heat and experience two hours of oceanic terror in an air-conditioned cinema. The Hollywood landscape was never the same. But while it was _Jaws that invented the blockbuster, for a generation of movie-goers it was another Steven Spielberg film that perfected it, nearly two decades later. In the summer of 1993, the director delivered an adventure 65 million years in the making – a monster movie of sorts, boasting groundbreaking computer effects, bigger teeth than Bruce the shark, and a promise to do the impossible: to bring dinosaurs back from extinction before your very eyes. “Welcome… to Jurassic Park.”
There are several building-blocks needed to create the perfect blockbuster movie – it’s not just about action sequences.

The director’s frightening and frenetic adventure is an ever-relevant example of hubris and the danger of greedy industrialism
In the face of various leadership disasters, it’s become common meme-ing practice in recent years to note that the mayor of Steven Spielberg’s Jaws – the man who wanted to keep the beaches open, even as a Great White was feasting on a buffet of tourists – is still the mayor in Jaws II. Point being, there are rarely any consequences to arrogance and ineptitude, especially if a person has a certain folksy charisma and is only considered guilty of pursuing the almighty dollar.
The world is run by the mayors of Jaws. And when Spielberg adapted Michael Crichton’s bestselling sci-fi/adventure Jurassic Park, he found another one in Dr John Hammond, an avuncular industrialist who rushes to make a theme park out of cloned dinosaurs. As played by Richard Attenborough,...
