It takes some time to fall in love with 18-year-old Elliott in “My Old Ass.” As played by Maisy Stella, she’s young and self-involved, so focused on heading off to college in the big city that she’s kind of a jerk to everyone around her (especially her small-town cranberry-farming family). Maybe young adult audiences won’t think so. Canadian actor-turned-auteur Megan Park’s sweetly insightful coming-of-age comedy is intended for them — whereas adults might not have so much patience for the way Stella’s impulsive character takes for granted what are arguably her best years.
Don’t worry, the movie is great, and Elliott eventually grows on you. Besides, her initially off-putting persona is kind of the point of Park’s older-and-wiser second feature, which follows the director’s terrific SXSW-winning debut “The Fallout.” Park plays a magic trick early in the film: Elliott and her besties (Maddie Ziegler...

Shailene Woodley‘s Secret Life of the American Teenager unhappiness is a secret no more.
In an interview with Bustle, the Big Little Lies actress admits she took no delight in propagating the ABC Family drama’s pro-abstinence, sex-shaming messages. “There were a lot of things that were written into the scripts that not just me, but a lot of the cast, disagreed with,” she shares of the show, which was created by 7th Heaven‘s Brenda Hampton. “There were belief systems that were pushed that were different than my own. Mackenzie Rosman is best known for her role on "7th Heaven" as the adorable, curly-cued, originally youngest Camden child, Ruthie. But five years after the long-running WB series about a Protestant minister's family came to an end, the actress is proving she's all grown up.
Now 23-year-old Rosman, who starred on "7th Heaven" for 11 seasons (appearing in all but five of the show's 243 episodes), stripped down for Maxim's September 2013 issue to promote her new Syfy movie "Ghost Shark" (premieres August 22) and to look back on her formative years.

ABC Family will air an all-day The Secret Life Of The American Teenager marathon March 18 ahead of the season premiere at 8 Pm. The network said in October that it wasn’t renewing the series beyond the current season, which is set for a final 12 episodes. The drama from 7th Heaven creator Brenda Hampton was the breakout hit that put ABC Family on the scripted map when it premiered in June 2008, helping to launch several of the network’s next generation of series and making a star out of lead Shailene Woodley, who went on to land the co-lead opposite George Clooney in The Descendants, a role that earned her an Independent Spirit Award and Golden Globe nomination last year. Season 5 of the show premiered in June when 11 episode ran.

ABC Family has decided to cancel their long-running TV series, The Secret Life of the American Teenager, after five seasons on the air. While there won't be a sixth season, there's still more to come.

Castmembers include Shailene Woodley, Kenny Baumann, Francia Raisa, Daren Kagasoff, Greg Finley, Megan Park, India Eisley, Molly Ringwald, Mark Derwin, Michael Grant, and Cierra Ramirez.

Starring Shailene Woodley as a high school student forced to deal with the ramifications of her unplanned pregnancy, "Secret Life" was a ratings bonanza for the then-fledgling cable network when it premiered in June 2008, opening the door for a slew of other popular scripted series including "Pretty Little...

The Secret Life of the American Teenager is ending. ABC Family's veteran teen drama, toplined by Shailene Woodley and created by 7th Heaven's Brenda Hampton, will go off the air after the end of the fifth season, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. The decision comes as the hourlong series prepares to air the final 12 episodes of the season in March. When the Secret Life of the American Teenager ends, it will have aired more than 120 episodes. Hampton called all of the series regulars on the show to inform them of the news. One of the stars, Daren Kagasoff,

If time permitted, you could do a full-length interview with Mayim Bialik on any number of topics: neuroscience, a field in which she has a PhD.; attachment parenting and the theories behind it; her religious faith; or her return to show business after building a family and immersing herself in academia.
But after an Aug. 15 auto accident, the first question that comes to mind is "How's your hand?" Bialik has been very forthcoming about the accident, how the surgery went on her hand and how she's dealt with it on the set of "The Big Bang Theory," discussing it in interviews and on her blog at Kveller.com. On "Big Bang," she plays Amy Farrah Fowler, the "girlfriend" of Sheldon Copper (Jim Parsons), who's been spending the last two seasons coming out of her cloistered shell and discovering her late-blossoming womanhood.

This week's The Secret Life of the American Teenager was all about "Girlfriends."Not the kind you date, the kind you bond with, share gossip with and spill your feelings to.
Amy encouraged Kathy to make some pals outside of Ethan. Making friends isn't always the easiest task, but Kathy did pretty well for herself. They may not be the nicest girls, but, hey, teenagers can be sassy. C'est la vie!
Was this episode so "friend" heavy because normal Secret Life is all about raging hormones and sex? Maybe Brenda Hampton and the writers got the memo that they drop the word "sex" about 50 times an episode? And when that got tired they subbed in the word "gay." Maybe they thought they'd go back to basics and just explore "friends."
I'm actually interested in them delving into other friendships on this show. For years it was just Amy, Lauren and...

In honor of "The Secret Life of the American Teenager's" 100th episode (which aired last night on ABC Family), we caught up with actress Francia Raisa, who plays the sexy and scandalous teenager Adrian Lee on the hit ABC Family Show.
The half-Honduran, half-Mexican actress dished exclusively to The Huffington Post about the show's important milestone, told us why she thinks her character is bipolar, and explained how it feels to be nominated for her very first Teen Choice Award for her work on the show!
First of all, congratulations on your Teen Choice nomination!
Thanks! Yeah, I got that and an Imagen Award nomination. It was for Female Scene Stealer.
Of course! You steal every scene you’re in! Is this your first Teen Choice nomination?
Yeah. Usually the show is nominated and I’m part of the cast, so I count that, but this is the first nomination for me alone,...

Executive producer Brenda Hampton knows a thing or two about the life of the American teenager. Her family drama 7th Heaven ran for 11 seasons and now her hit ABC Family series The Secret Life of the American Teenager is marking its landmark 100th episode on Monday (8/7c). Secret Life stars Shailene Woodley as a high school student whose life gets turned upside down when she becomes pregnant — and things just get more complicated from there. Hampton took a moment to tell us why we should learn the secrets of The Secret Life.
TV Guide Magazine: It's been 100 episodes. Is the American teenager's life secret anymore?
Brenda Hampton: Oh yeah. Teenagers always have secrets. That's because they're never doing what they're supposed to do. You were a teenager, right? You have secrets from when you were a teen, don't you? No? Liar!

ABC Family's "The Secret Life of the American Teenager" returns Monday (March 26) with a newly engaged Amy (Shailene Woodley) and Ricky (Daren Kagasoff), but is there also another baby on the way for the couple? Maybe.
"Amy does experience a pregnancy scare," executive producer Brenda Hampton tells EW. She doesn't say whether the scare results in an actual positive pregnancy test or a sibling to join Ricky and Amy's son, John, but Woodley also had a little tidbit of information for Zap2it during a recent interview.
"[Amy] might be undergoing some physical changes," Woodley says.
Who knows if that means a bun in the oven for Amy, but we do know that there will be at least one other teen mom on the show this season when "Suite Life of Zack and Cody" actress Cierra Ramirez joins the cast as a pregnant freshman who's planning to give up her baby for adoption.

When we last left the teens of Secret Life, Ricky had finally popped the question to Amy. So, when the series returns tonight (for its first season in the summer!), the newly engaged couple will probably be super busy obsessing over flower arrangements and guest lists, rights? Well, not quite…
Though Amy finally has the commitment (and the ring!) she’s been waiting for, she gets a serious case of cold feet when it comes to setting a date, according to executive producer Brenda Hampton. “The tables are kind of turning now that he’s asked her to marry him.

At ABC Family’s upfront in New York today, the main topic of conversation was the reveal of “A” on tonight’s Pretty Little Liars’ season finale. Even Secret Life of the American Teenager creator Brenda Hampton asked Pll Ep Marlene King for a clue during their showrunners panel, but King would only say that the show, which was Twitter’s No. 1 TV Hot Topic in 2011, may bring the site down this evening after it reveals a new mystery by the end of the hour.

Okay? Prepared for serious intel? Following next week's two-hour wedding event, a tragedy will strike Adrian and Ben: the couple will lose its baby.

It seems that Brenda Hampton got my notes about ways to improve Secret Life. Mature outlooks and relationships that stick? My oh my, "Guess Who's Not Coming to Dinner" did not disappoint.
Ricky has come a long way since his days as a skirt chasing bad boy. His life with Amy and John is something he feels passionately about protecting and that is an endearing quality.
Ricky has no reason to really trust his birth mother, Nora, or do her any favors. Yet he still finds a place for her to live and a job, since she can't stay with him due to his custody agreement.
Even later in the episode when he wanted to back out of taking John to meet Nora, Amy convinced him to come around. One of my favorite things on a TV show is when they guy who lets you down shows up after all.

This time of year sucks. When you're on the precipice of all of your favorite shows being decimated due to low ratings (because, really, does anyone who loves shows with high rating even comment on shows via the internet?) and being tantalized by the possibilities of the new shows to replace them (will we get more shows of a supernatural bent, CIA stories, street cops?). We do know the summer season is right around the corner. We can seek solace in at least one more season of those shows we have already grown to love and some new ones to take hold in our hearts.
Here's what I have to look forward to this summer, and when I can expect the first airing:

Earlier in the year, I took a look at what the networks were doing with their pilot season, as the time is growing nearer and nearer for shows to be picked up and decisions to be made. Here is a look at some of the major cable networks out there and what they’re doing. Since each network is so different, it’s kind of hard to see trends or really compare each development slate, so I separated things out a bit more and let you know what exactly I’d pick up. Some of my personal pick-ups are due to things the network’s losing this season, but some are just for personal reasons, i.e. I’d like to see how a particular show would go. There are several shows that are pretty much going to be picked up that I personally didn’t pick up, but I was never one for conventionality.

"Four Weddings and a Funeral" star Andy MacDowell is going to invade the small screen with "What Would Jane Do". The actress signed up for at least three movies that will debut next year, but most of them have been in post-production stage so she is free to star in the ABC Family drama.
"What Would Jane Do" follows a 16-year-old girl who lands a high-profile fashion job, thanks to a slightly clueless hiring manager who somehow fails to realize that she's still a few years shy of being a grown-up. "Jane soon finds herself juggling life as a regular teenager in high school and as an assistant to a high-powered executive in the cutthroat world of fashion," the synopsis says.
According to EW, MacDowell is to play Grey, who is "the hard-nosed, tough-as-nails boss that Jane goes to work for." Playing Jane is Erica Dasher who was last seen...
