Sting’s “The Last Ship” and Jason Robert Brown’s “Honeymoon in Vegas” were both sabotaged by inferior books, and despite good scores could not survive this season on Broadway. “It Shoulda Been You,” which opened Tuesday at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre in New York, suffers the reverse problem — terrific book, numbingly bland music — which in the crazy world of musical theater does not Ko its chances for success. Who knows? “Shoulda” could turn into the surprise hit of the 2014-15 season. Brian Hargrove’s witty, twist-filled book about a mixed-up wedding party serves as the playground for a superb ensemble.

Former Frasier star David Hyde Pierce has teamed up with his longtime partner to bring their play It Shoulda Been You to Broadway.
The actor and Brian Hargrove will stage the musical in New York next year after wowing critics during its stint at the George Street Playhouse in New Jersey.
Pierce admits he relished directing the production, about the highs and lows a bride and groom experience on their wedding day.
In an appearance on U.S. morning show Live! With Kelly on Monday, Pierce explains, "I directed a brand new musical. We did it out of town. We're actually going to bring it to Broadway in the fall. It's called It Shoulda Been You. It takes place during a wedding.
"The nice thing about directing is that you tell people what to do, then you go home. It could have been stressful but it wasn't... What I did was I put together an amazing group, a great cast but also the designers and the tech people and all that... I had a great time."...

To Full Frontal Or To Not Full Frontal
When I saw the first headline trumpeting news about Justin Long's inadvertent full frontal nude scene in his upcoming movie Going the Distance, I knew how the story would end before I even started it: namely, that particular scene would not end up in the movie. Americans as a whole are still supposedly way too squeamish to actually be confronted with a guy's junk onscreen, especially in a romantic comedy like Going the Distance.
Justin Long
Which doesn't make sense given that Nanette Burstein, Gtd's director, was supposedly so taken with Christina Applegate's shocked reaction to Justin's junk that she filmed the scene that way ten more times before eventually deciding not to use it. Or someone decided she shouldn't use it. Btw, imagine if this were a gay director who did that. Tongues would be wagging even though...

Exclusive: Christopher Titus is back at Fox with a new comedy project loosely based on his life. Titus’ eponymous sitcom ran on Fox for three seasons before being abruptly cancelled in 2002. In the show, which Titus co-created with Jack Kenny and Brian Hargrove, he starred as a version of himself surrounded by his dimwitted stepbrother, his girlfriend, his goody-goody friend and his lewd, multiple-divorced father. Titus’ new project picks up eight years later in the life of the comedian who has gone through a marriage and a divorce since the end of his Fox series. In the new show, which [...]...

Remember Niles from "Frasier?" Well, his real life alter ego David Hyde Pierce revealed on "The View" the other day that he and partner Brian Hargrove got married last Fall. Congratulations, David, we're so excited for you! Or at least we would have been if we'd heard your happy news in a timely fashion.Brian and David were married in California back when gay people still had the right to marry in the state. Despite Prop 8 passing in California, and the recent court decision that the proposition will stand, David and Brian's marriage is still legal because of the timing of their ceremony. Speaking to the ladies on "The View," Pierce said ...

Niles Crane is pulling his hair out yet again. Frasier's David Hyde Pierce was atypically vocal on The View yesterday when he revealed he married his companion of 25 years, Brian Hargrove, last fall in—where else?—California. "Brian and I always kept a low profile. We didn't hide our lives," he said. "We got married very quietly last Oct. 24 and thought that was fine, and then suddenly the state of California said, 'No, it's not.' What we thought was sort of a private, personal decision turned out not to be." Needless to say, the actor is outraged. He's recently been more active in gay-rights rallies and shared his frustrations with Barbara Walters and the...

Former Frasier star David Hyde Pierce has revealed that he married his boyfriend last year. The actor, who played Dr Niles Crane on the sitcom, told The View that he had tied the knot with TV producer Brian Hargrove in October, just two weeks before gay marriage was banned in California. "Brian and I always kept a low profile. We didn't hide our lives. We got married very quietly last October 24 and thought that was fine, and then suddenly the state of California said, 'No, it's not'," he explained. Earlier this week, the state's (more)...

Gay actor David Hyde Pierce has blasted Californian lawmakers for threatening the legality of his marriage.
The former Frasier star and his longtime partner, TV writer/director Brian Hargrove, took advantage of last May's legislation allowing gay marriage and exchanged vows in a low key ceremony in October.
The law was overturned in November and gay marriage was once again illegal.
Lawmakers in California's Supreme Court considered cancelling any marriages that took place during the six months they were legal - but decided to allow them to stand when they upheld the ban on Tuesday.
Hyde Pierce is pleased his marriage still stands, but is furious it was taken out of his own hands.
He fumes, "Twenty-five years and we got married last October. Here's the thing, Brian and I always kept it low profile, and we got married very quietly, last October 24th and we thought it was fine, and then suddenly the state of California said it's not (legal) and what we thought was a very private, personal decision turned out not to be.
"So now we find out we are still married legally, but... it's like, 'Oh great, we made the cut!'
"It was a very angry-making feeling both in November when it was taken away from me, and also this past Tuesday when I'm sitting in front of my TV thinking, 'Gee, I hope the Supreme Court thinks it's Ok for us to be married.' Well it's none of your business!"
Gay leaders in the state now plan to take their fight to federal court.

"Frasier" star David Hyde Pierce reveals that he tied the knot last fall with his longtime companion Brian Hargrove. Pierce told the hosts of ABC's "The View" that he and Hargrove got married "very quietly last October 24th," after having been together for 25 years. The couple's wedding happened a couple of weeks before California's Proposition 8 was passed by voters, banning same-sex marriage. In a ruling this week, the state's Supreme Court upheld the ban, but said marriages conducted in California while the practice was legal are still valid.

Update: The video of the interview is now up on The View's website.
Out Emmy and Tony winner David Hyde Pierce stopped by The View this morning to discuss his role in the new Broadway play Accent on Youth and the talk eventually shifted to his feelings on getting married and Proposition 8.
When asked by Barbara Walters about the wedding, and why very few people knew that he got married to his partner Brian Hargrove after twenty years, David was honest and concise:
It was twenty-five years, and we got married last October. Brian and I always sort-of kept a low profile. We didn't hide our lives, but we just thought 'let's make an example of just people going about their lives and trying to create the best household', and our families, and friends and colleagues knew all about us.

Former Frasier star David Hyde Pierce has revealed he is gay, after keeping his sexuality secret for decades. The actor, who played Dr. Niles Crane in the long-running sitcom, has always refused to talk about his personal life, despite rumos about his sexual orientation. But the 48-year-old has allowed his long-term partner Brian Hargrove's name to be mentioned in an interview on CNN.com. In a paragraph carefully buried in the article, the journalist writes, "Pierce got to Los Angeles in the early 1990s when his partner, actor-writer-producer Brian Hargrove, wanted to write for television." Pierce's spokesperson has since confirmed Hargrove is the star's partner.
