Doobie Brothers drummer Michael Hossack died Monday at his home in Dubois, Wyoming. He was 65. The rock musician had battled cancer and was surrounded by his family at the time he succumbed, reports his local paper, the Lake County News. Born in Paterson, New Jersey, Hossack, who once had ambitions to become a law-enforcement officer, began playing the drums at age 12, according to the Doobie Brothers website. On June 28, Eagle Rock Entertainment will release The Doobie Brothers Live At The Greek Theatre 1982 on DVD, the show from the final date of the farewell tour of hometown heroes The Doobie Brothers. The DVD will carry a list price $14.98.

Eagle Rock will also release an audio CD of the show for $13.98.
The performance included a couple of surprises: For starters, Doobies co-founder joined the band for the final two songs. Additionally, for the performance of “Listen to the Music” (the band’s biggest hit), original Doobies drummer John Hartman joined the band, as did former members Tiran Porter and Michael Hossack.
But, as this is rock’n’roll, the Greek Theatre gig was Not the last time the Doobie Brothers performed on stage as the band pulled it together for another tour five years later.
