Apple TV+ has announced that they will be releasing the four-part documentary The Enfield Poltergeist – which tells about the case that served as inspiration for The Conjuring 2 – on October 27th, just in time for Halloween viewings. Along with that announcement comes the unveiling of a trailer for the docu-series, and you can check it out in the embed above.
According to Deadline, The Enfield Poltergeist relies on more than 250 hours of audio archive to help recreate the infamous events in Enfield. Throughout four episodes, the events at Enfield are reconstructed using the recordings captured by Maurice Grosse, a paranormal investigator who archived all of his interviews from back in the day. The doc built a replica of the council house where the incidents took place so performers could reenact what is heard on the tapes.
The docu-series also features appearances by people who were actually involved in the haunting case.

Cinematic universes are all the rage now but it's easy to forget how recent a phenomenon this actually is. The notion of a cinematic universe didn't really exist until around 2010 when it became clear what Marvel Studios was doing with its various superhero franchises in the lead-up to the record-breaking "The Avengers" in the summer of 2012. Sure, we had Kevin Smith's films making up the View Askewniverse starting with "Clerks" in 1994 -- not to mention Universal's monster movie crossovers from decades earlier. Still, once Marvel perfected the model, Hollywood chased it down rabidly. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it fails spectacularly. But arguably nobody has done it better this side of Marvel than James Wan and "The Conjuring" universe.

The evil nun featured in director James Wan’s The Conjuring 2 (watch it Here) got her own spin-off movie that was appropriately called The Nun (watch that one Here), and now The Nun 2 is heading toward a September 2023 release. But it’s a well known story by now that the nun wasn’t originally intended to be in The Conjuring 2. She was a last minute replacement for a winged demon – and Wan has just shared a video of that demon on his Instagram page! You can check it out in the embed below, along with the following explanation:
The original Valak in The Conjuring 2 was going to be this winged demon. A beautifully/hideously sculpted animatronic puppet head and practical body-suit by the super talented @justin.raleigh (whom I’ve worked with on pretty much all my movies since Insidious 1) and his team @fracturedfxinc. worn by @j_bishara.

Whether you love or hate James Wan's "The Conjuring," it's impossible to deny the impact the 2013 film had on horror. Wan fused atmospheric scares with Joseph Bishara's string-filled and spine-tingling score to craft a part-haunted house, part-possession film that jump-scared its way into earning more than 320 million at the worldwide box office. By 2021, "The Conjuring" franchise has earned 2 billion, as confirmed by Deadline.
While "The Conjuring" was marketed as a story based on true events, Wan and co-writers Chad Hayes and Carey W. Hayes took several creative liberties when bringing the Warrens' investigation of the Perrons' family house to life. (For example, the film's exorcism...

Where to Give the Devil His Due in The Conjuring's latest - "The Devil Made Me Do It:" A Film Review
*there are spoilers here* Director: Michael Chaves. Writers: David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, James Wan, David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, Chad Hayes and Carey W. Hayes. As entertainment, The Conjuring franchise does a commendable job in playing upon the tropes which makes some horror films great. The latest installment, "The Devil Made Me Do It," is a reasonable continuation to which I'm waiting for all the parts to come together on. It's not the same as the prior works, as it depends on more action than exploration (i.e. the haunted house trope), but I was glad to see the Kolchak style change. The directors can liberally copy from other films with recognizable The Exorcist (1973)or Poltergeist (1982) moments as much as they want and include as many obligatory jump scares to the film, and I'm okay with it. As a statement on whether Ed (Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine Warren (Vera Farmiga) are paranormal investigators...

Third film in the main “Conjuring” series stars Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson and opens June 4
Lorraine and Ed Warren are back for the third film in the main “The Conjuring” series, “The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It,” and this time they’re testifying about the existence of Satan and working to investigate a grisly murder committed in broad daylight.
Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson are back in “The Devil Made Me Do It,” which is based on real case files and involves an actual murder case about a young man in 1981 named Arne Johnson who for the first time in a court of law claimed demonic possession as a defense.
“The court accepts the existence of God every time a witness swears to tell the truth,” Patrick Wilson says in the trailer. “I think it’s about time they accept the existence of the Devil.”

Carey Hayes and Chad Hayes, who are among Hollywood’s most renowned screenwriters and gave us the chills with their films like House Of Wax, The Reaping and The Conjuring, are all set to consult on a screenplay penned by poet - songwriter Rozam along with director Vikram Bhatt. The film, titled The Cello, is based on a unique story written by Rozam and will be made into a horror film.
Rozam is the pen name of the poet and songwriter Turki Al-Sheikh from Saudi Arabia. A big fan of Indian music and movies, he recently hosted an award ceremony that felicitated Shah Rukh Khan and has also collaborated with Ar Rahman for a track.
Talking about the project, which will be mounted on a big scale, Vikram Bhatt says, “Turki Al-Sheikh and I bonded over our love for horror thrillers, and so, we decided to work together to make the best one to date.

When Disney finally completed their takeover of Fox, the Mouse House inherited a huge amount of high-profile properties, but given their established brand reputation, it seemed difficult to imagine the family-friendly multimedia empire taking a chance and rebooting R-rated franchises like Die Hard, Predator and Alien.
Longtime fans would no doubt balk at the idea of Disney tackling brands that had always been adult orientated, but the studio may have found a loophole through the rebranded 20th Century Studios. While the Walt Disney Pictures division will always be associated with the standard fare that saw the company ascend to the very top of the industry, an offshoot presents the ideal opportunity for them to diversify their output and venture into previously uncharted territory.

Screenwriter Chad Hayes, one-half of the Hayes Brothers writing duo who scripted the horror films “House of Wax” and “The Conjuring,” has put his writing retreat in the prestigious Point Dume area of Malibu up for sale at not quite $1.25 million. Slated to pen “McClane,” the upcoming prequel (and final installment) to the money-minting “Die Hard” franchise, Hayes bought the neo-Mediterranean townhouse condo just over five years ago for a small amount over $1 million.
Jointly listed with Catherine Bindley at Sotheby’s Intl. Realty and Debbie Kester at Douglas Elliman, the almost 2,300-square-foot multilevel townhome is offered fully furnished, and the two-bedroom and 2.5 bathroom hideaway is alternatively available as a rental at $7,000 per month.

If you’ve ever taken a ghost tour in New Orleans, chances are you’ve made a stop at the Lalaurie Mansion, which is the site of the atrocious behaviors of socialite Delphine Lalaurie, who tortured and murdered slaves on the now-infamous property. As it turns out, the Lalaurie Mansion is set to be the centerpiece for an upcoming horror project which will be written by veteran scribes Carey and Chad Hayes, and while in Park City for the 2020 Sundance Film Festival, this writer had the opportunity to speak with one of the producers for the project, Doug McKay, who gave us some insights into what we can expect from the upcoming film.

Ever since #MeToo opened the world’s eyes to the horrors of toxic masculinity, horror filmmakers — particularly female ones — have been finding increasingly creative ways to imbue their work with fears unique to women. This past year alone, both Jennifer Kent’s “The Nightingale” and Sophia Takal’s “Black Christmas” used rape-revenge tropes as plot points, though to vastly different degrees of success.
In her stylish if not entirely bone-chilling new movie “The Turning,” director Floria Sigismondi shrewdly updates Henry James’ “The Turn of the Screw” to haunt her young protagonist with unwanted male attention and obsession. Updating the story that inspired Jack Clayton’s 1961 classic “The Innocents,” which followed the text more closely,
The film’s opening hews closely enough to the original novella, as the fresh-faced Kate (Mackenzie Davis) accepts an unusual position as governess for absurdly wealthy orphan Flora (Brooklynn Prince), who lives in an extravagant manor home.

Director Floria Sigismondi’s “The Turning” is like the alt-rock cousin of author Henry James’ novella “The Turn of the Screw.” From its grunge-infused soundtrack and period setting to its fiery feminist overtones, this is an ambitious contemporary take on the iconic, claustrophobic thriller. Concerning two young orphans who psychologically torment their caretaker in a spooky, sprawling mansion, it comes across as a fuzzy, frayed adaptation courtesy of a gimmicky, ambiguous climax that undermines the journey. Lacking spine-tingling dread, taut tension, and the deservingly provocative ending needed to make its modern sentiments land, this re-imagining is less than a classic.

Henry James’s novella “The Turn of the Screw” has inspired many screen adaptations, most notably Jack Clayton’s “The Innocents,” which starred Deborah Kerr, and a live TV version with Ingrid Bergman that was directed by John Frankenheimer. In the early ’70s, Marlon Brando headlined a memorably nasty prequel called “The Nightcomers,” and movies from this story have been made all over the world. You have to go out of your way to screw up this material.
“The Turning” is an adaptation of “The Turn of the Screw” that takes place in 1994; we hear over the radio that Kurt Cobain has just committed suicide as we meet our heroine Kate (Mackenzie Davis), a cheerful, slightly nerdy woman who has just received a job as a nanny to an orphaned young girl and boy. In most versions of this story, the governess goes to meet the uncle of these orphans,...

If you read my piece on The Innocents from last October, then you know that I’m a pretty big fan of both Henry James’ The Turn of the Screw as well as Jack Clayton’s timeless 1961 adaptation, which means that I am the prime audience for Floria Sigismondi’s new take on this classic tale, The Turning. And for the most part, I really enjoyed what Sigismondi as well as screenwriters Carey and Chad Hayes were able to bring to the table here, with Floria’s visual flair adding a lot to the material, and a trio of strong performances from the film’s lead actors: Mackenzie Davis, Brooklynn Prince, and Finn Wolfhard.
Where The Turning ended up falling a bit short for me was in its finale, where the pieces of the narrative’s puzzle don’t quite all lock together in the film’s final moments. But overall,...

After stepping into the haunted homes of the Perron and Hodgson families, respectively, in the first two Conjuring movies, screenwriters Chad and Carey Hayes are now opening the door to another real-life location with a haunted past in a new horror franchise based on the Lalaurie Mansion in New Orleans:
Press Release: From the creators of The Conjuring franchise, Chad and Carey Hayes, and Faster Horse Pictures’ Cindy Bond and Doug McKay in tandem with Michael Whalen, a team with experience working on The Zodiak, Shutter Island and The Black Swan, comes a new horror film franchise based on the infamous house and property known as The Lalaurie Mansion – one of the most haunted houses in the world. Despite there being no public access inside the property since 1932 (for a reason!), thousands of people travel to New Orleans each year just to get a roadside glimpse of the notorious home.

The writers of “The Conjuring” films Chad and Carey Hayes are developing a new horror franchise of films inspired by the stories of the haunted Lalaurie Mansion in the French Quarter of New Orleans.
The two brothers will tell the history of the house and its crazed owner, Madame Delphine Lalaurie across multiple film installments, and the intention is for principal photography to begin in 2020.
The Lalaurie Mansion is considered one of the most haunted houses in the world and has been closed to the public since 1932, but it remains a popular tourist attraction. The house’s owner Madame Lalaurie was a New Orleans socialite and serial killer who tortured and murdered enslaved persons hidden away in her house all while being the center of attention as the host of extravagant parties.
The two brothers will tell the history of the house and its crazed owner, Madame Delphine Lalaurie across multiple film installments, and the intention is for principal photography to begin in 2020.

Exclusive: Chad and Carey Hayes, the creators of the mega-successful Conjuring franchise, are teaming with Cindy Bond and Doug McKay’s recently launched outfit Faster Horse Pictures on a series of haunted mansion horror movies.
The planned franchise will be built around the real-life Lalaurie Mansion in New Orleans, one of the most notorious ‘haunted houses’ in the world, which hasn’t allowed any public access since 1932. Despite that, thousands of tourists still travel to the city every year to visit the property.
The house was made infamous by its resident Madame Lalaurie, a New Orleans socialite and serial killer who tortured and murdered numerous slaves there in the early 1800s. After her crimes were exposed following a house fire in 1834, she fled the city and was never arrested.

Tagline: "Watch the Children with Care." The Turning is the latest film to find its inspiration from the novella The Turn of the Screw. This film fan has still not read this classic, despite its influences. Now, this latest interpretation will focus on a mysterious estate, in a Maine countryside. Here, a nanny is put in charge of two very special orphans. As well, Italian director Floria Sigismondi (The Runaways) has helmed this feature, with Carey and Chad Hayes adapting the screenplay. The film itself stars: Mackenzie Davis ("Black Mirror"), Finn Wolfhard, Brooklynn Prince, Mark Huberman, Barbara Marten and Niall Greig Fulton. Now, a trailer and poster are available for this supernatural infused feature. The Turning has been rated PG-13. Though difficult to create challenging horror with a PG-13 rating, The Turning relies on strange imagery to bring the scares. The PG-13 rating is for: terror, violence, disturbing images and suggestive content.

Hayes turn their attention to Henry James' The Turn of the Screw to bring a new adaptation of the classic novella to life in The Turning, which now has an official trailer ahead of its release next January.
Starring Mackenzie Davis and Finn Wolfhard, The Turning will be unleashed in theaters on January 24th, 2020 via Universal Pictures:
"For more than 100 years, a deeply haunting tale has been passed down to terrify audiences. Next January, DreamWorks Pictures’ The Turning takes us to a mysterious estate in the Maine countryside, where newly appointed nanny Kate is charged with the care of two disturbed orphans, Flora and Miles. Quickly though, she discovers that both the children and the house are harboring dark secrets and things may not be as they appear.

Reviews are in for the newest spinoff film inspired by “The Conjuring” universe, “The Curse of La Llorona,” and the horror film appears to be dead on arrival, at least as far as critics are concerned. “La Llorona” is the latest film to hit the formerly revered franchise begun in 2013 by director James Wan and writers Chad Hayes and Carey W. Hayes. That includes both “The Conjuring” movies, two “Annabelle” movies with a third on the way, and last year’s box-office hit but critical failure “The Nun,” which also has a sequel coming. Wan handed over the reigns to director Michael Chaves for “La Llorona,” which is currently the franchise’s only standalone film. From reading the reviews below — it may stay that way.

Die Hard 6, which has been touted as the origin story of Bruce Willis’ wise-cracking action hero of the classic franchise, has a new title. In an interview with the UK movie magazine Empire, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura said, “You can tell our intention by the fact that the title page we handed in says, McClane.
Deadline originally broke the story in 2015 that the next installment of the franchise was originally put on the drawing board as Die Hard: Year One at Fox with Live Free Or Die Hard helmer Len Wiseman returning.
According to the Empire report, the sequel-prequel script features Willis as a 60-year-old McClane with a younger version of McClane in his 20s.
Said di Bonaventura, “We want you to get invested in John McClane more than ever before… We are gonna explore John McClane in his twenties. But just as prominent is the 60-year-old version.” The Conjuring...

Four movies deep, The Conjuring universe is now widely considered to be a cornerstone of Hollywood’s horror scene. Not bad for a film franchise that flickered into life only four years ago.
In that time, James Wan (Aquaman) has delivered The Conjuring and its sequel, The Enfield Poltergeist, while director John R. Leonetti broke course to focus on the nightmarish little doll known as Annabelle. A worldwide haul in excess of $256 million was enough to warrant a sequel (read: Annabelle: Creation), which is now available via Blu-ray and DVD.
Not only was it another feather in New Line’s cap – Creation topped its predecessor’s haul by almost $50 million at the global box office – but David Sandberg’s chilling follow-up helped expand The Conjuring universe into uncharted territory. Next up? The Nun, which recently got hit with a delay, pushing it from July 13th to September 7th.

Sarah Conradt has been tapped to pen Lionsgate's The Bride, the English-language remake of a Russian horror movie of the same name.

Piece by piece, the Conjuring Universe is beginning to establish itself as a cornerstone of Hollywood’s horror genre. Up until now, Warner Bros. and New Line’s nerve-shredding franchise has made room for three feature films – namely The Conjuring and its unnerving sequel, The Enfield Poltergeist, along with Annabelle – but already there are plans in place for Annabelle: Creation, The Nun, and The Crooked Man.
The latter two are based on characters introduced via The Conjuring 2, and while The Crooked Man is a project still in its infancy, The Nun has already set sights on a firm release date: July 13th, 2018. The Crow director Corin Hardy is at the helm of New Line’s spinoff, and over the past few weeks, Hardy has been busy posting status reports via Instagram.

Set within the universe created by Chad Hayes and Carey W. Hayes, The Nun has tapped an all-star cast, too, including Taissa Farmiga, the daughter of series stalwart Vera Farmiga (Lorraine Warren). Demian Bichir, Bonnie Aarons, Charlotte Hope, Jonas Bloquet and Ingrid Bisu round out the ensemble cast.
Here’s the official logline, courtesy of WB:
The story centers on a young nun at a cloistered abbey in Romania taking her own life, with a priest with a haunted past and a novitiate on the threshold of her final vows sent by the Vatican to investigate. Together they uncover the order’s unholy secret and confront a malevolent force in the form of the same demonic nun from The Conjuring 2.

The term “master of horror” is one that gets thrown around a little too loosely sometimes, but there are a precious few filmmakers who very much embody that prestigious label. If he didn’t achieve that status prior to 2013, James Wan sure did with the release of The Conjuring. The film, touted by many as Wan’s masterpiece, was indeed quite masterful, and with it the Aussie filmmaker brilliantly set the stage for a franchise built around the case files of real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren.
In the wake of spinoff film Annabelle, the Warrens are back.

A few years ago, The Conjuring came more or less out of nowhere to scare the pants off of people and become a certified horror movie blockbuster. Obviously, a sequel was commissioned, and that film, The Conjuring 2, is now hitting cinemas across the world. Director James Wan, an official master of horror at this point, as well as leads Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson, lent weight to the demonic tale the first time around and now are back. This seems set to be a big hit, and folks, I can happily report that it’s the rare horror sequel that actually is high quality. Rejoice! The film is a sequel to The Conjuring, as you might have guessed. It once again follows Ed Warren (Wilson) and his wife Lorraine (Farmiga), as they help a family deal with a haunting. This time, it’s in England, where a single mother...

At the end of James Wan’s The Conjuring, I had a big smile on my face at the thought of a studio building a smart and fun horror franchise using Ed and Lorraine Warren as the foundation, and tonight, after seeing The Conjuring 2, I am relieved to see that they got it absolutely right. The screenplay, credited to Carey Hayes & Chad Hayes & James Wan and David Leslie Johnson, is very smart about the way it opens with a seance in the Amityville house. Amityville is where the Warrens made their reputations as paranormal investigators, so it makes sense to eventually tell that story, but it’s also been made and re-made and told a dozen different ways. Instead of making the mistake of dedicating an entire film to it, they use it to set several story threads into motion and also to show how the Warrens were constantly...

There’s no denying that as far as modern filmmakers go, James Wan is in a class of his own. For over the last 12 years, he’s been the driving force behind numerous great horror films (I’m even a sucker for his criminally underrated Dead Silence), and he even rose to the gargantuan challenge that came with helming last year’s Furious 7. And before he dives into the world of Aquaman, Wan returns to his cinematic roots this summer with a special treat for horror fans: a thrilling sequel to The Conjuring that’s even better than its incredibly well-made predecessor and proves that character-driven genre stories are still the best way to scare the pants off audiences.
Simply put, The Conjuring 2 might very well be the best horror movie we’ve seen from James Wan yet, marking a confident return to horror for the director who...
