Estonia’s Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival (Poff) has revealed this year’s Black Nights Stars, showcasing eight rising actors from the Baltic Sea region.
Alongside seven actors from the Baltics, the group includes Ukrainian actress Daria Polunina, whose credits include 2019 family feature Foxter & Max and upcoming Netflix series The Girl And The Astronaut from director Bartek Prokopowicz.

The Mummy and Trust star is to front The Professionals, based on the Jeff Most-produced film, alongside Smallville’s Tom Welling, Wonder Woman’s Elena Anaya, John Wick 3’s Saïd Taghmaoui, Inglourious Basterds’ Ken Duken, Force Majeure’s Lisa Loven Kongsli and Das Boot’s August Wittgenstein.

Exclusive: Hot off Mission: Impossible Fallout, Rebecca Ferguson is being set for a plum role in the Men in Black spinoff. She has separately closed her deal to play the scary Rose the Hat in Doctor Sleep, based on the Stephen King novel that continues the story line King started in The Shining.
Ferguson, who completed her second turn opposite Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible and is poised to continue going forward with the franchise, will first shoot Doctor Sleep, which Mike Flanagan co-wrote and directs. Freeform has rounded out its cast and has begun principal photography on Motherland (working title), an hourlong drama pilot from Claws creator Eliot Laurence and executive producers Will Ferrell, Adam McKay and Kevin Messick. Finland event has announced its films, Work In Progress projects and international guests for this year.
The line-up of films and international guests has been revealed for this year’s Finnish Film Affair.
There will be 24 completed films and 21 Work In Progress projects presented at the event, which acts as a showcase for new Finnish films.
Screenings of completed films include drama Little Wing [pictured], the debut feature from Oscar-nominated short film-maker Selma Vilhunen which recently premiered at Tiff, Antti J. Jokinen’s Flowers Of Evil, which premiered at Shanghai International Film Festival, winning Best Director, and Taneli Mustonen’s upcoming horror Lake Bodom.

Exclusive: Trying to end the Toronto Film Festival with a strong Finnish (sorry for that, this festival has worn me out), Paradigm signed Peter Franzén, one of Finland’s most accomplished actors. Franzen stars in the Pierre Morel-directed spy thriller The Gunman opposite Sean Penn and Javier Bardem, and makes his feature directorial debut this month with Above Dark Waters. That pic opened September 6th in Finland. Franzen wrote the script from his semi-autobiographical 2010 novel of the same name. Franzén continues to be managed by Untitled Entertainment and his co-agents continue to be Laura Munsterhjelm at Actors in Scandinavia. Franzen has been here at Toronto starring in Heart Of A Lion, in which he plays a neo-Nazi skinhead who falls hard for a woman who has a biracial son.
