Exclusive: Deadline has the first pair of exclusive tracks from Thomas Newman’s score for Operation Mincemeat, which is set for digital release via Lakeshore Records tomorrow, as Warner Bros. releases the film in the UK and Ireland.
Operation Mincemeat tells the extraordinary story of two intelligence officers that changed the course of World War II, saving tens of thousands of lives and breaking Hitler’s deadly grip on Europe by recruiting the skills of the most unlikely of secret agents: a dead man.
For the drama, Newman looked to craft a striking orchestral score, which evoked intensely dramatic action, while befitting more nuanced moments. The film was directed by John Madden, with whom Newman had previously collaborated on titles including The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and The Debt. “John Madden is the perfect collaborator. Whip-smart, full of humor and a savvy listener,” says the composer.

Out of the two dueling White House takeover pics that vied for box office dominance in 2013, it’s safe to say that Olympus Has Fallen emerged victorious against White House Down (though there are some, myself included, who feel that the latter film was far superior). While White House Down disappointed at the box office, Olympus Has Fallen made more on a smaller budget and certainly did well enough to warrant a sequel, which kicked off production in London today.
Rather obviously titled London Has Fallen, the follow-up reunites stars Aaron Eckhart, Gerard Butler, Morgan Freeman, Angela Bassett and Melissa Leo. This time around, Secret Service agent Mike Banning (Butler) and President of the United States Benjamin Asher (Eckhart) find themselves battling a terrorist threat in London.

Alan Turing (1912 – 1954) was a British mathematician, logician, cryptanalyst, and is considered the father of computer science. He committed suicide at age 42 after being chemically castrated for the “crime” of being homosexual. Rowan Joffe's Before I Go To Sleep psychological thriller casts Mark Strong Variety reports that Joffe's adapting the screenplay based on the bestselling book written by S.J. Watson. The story tells of a woman from north London (Kidman) who wakes every morning with no recollection of anything. Her husband tells her she suffered a trauma, and she dare not leave the house. After she sneaks off to see a doctor (played by Strong), she's given a digital recorder and urged to play back her thoughts the day after, in hopes of re-integrating her mind. It works, but shockingly-enough, she realizes that the man who's sleeping next to her, isn't her husband. Ridley Scott and Liza Marshall of Scott Free are producing alongside with Mark Gill and Matthew O'Toole. Following a busy week of sales and acquisitions at Cannes, here's a round-up of some of the more interesting and noteworthy projects that were recently added to IMDbPro's database of in-development titles:
A Confederacy of Dunces – John Kennedy Toole's popular posthumous tale of a cynical slob named Ignatius J. Reilly has been one of those "development hell" projects we thought would never get made. But, we said the same thing about The Watchmen once and Karouac's On the Road, which recently premiered at Cannes. So, never say never. Muppets director James Bobin is reportedly in talks with Paramount to finally bring this book that once had Steven Soderbergh attached to helm, to the big screen with Zach Galifianakis as the lead.
Jane Got a Gun – Natalie Portman is set to star in this Western drama for Scottish filmmaker Lynne Ramsay (We Need to Talk About Kevin). Written by Black List finalist Brian Duffield, the film centers on a woman trying to defend her homestead when a posse comes after her outlaw husband.
Mad Dogs and Englishmen – Colin Firth's taking on yet another historic role, albeit a more whimsical one than King George VI. The Oscar winner has been tapped to play British playwright and showman Noel Coward in this comedy about the entertainer's stint as a Vegas performer (filling in for an ailing Liberace) during the 1950s. Ross Elliot and Gene Kirkwood produce with a script by Willy Holtzman.
Untitled Wes Anderson Project – Hot off his Cannes' standing ovation for Moonrise Kingdom (and a record-breakingdebut at the box office) indie maven Wes Anderson plans to reunite with his old pal Owen Wilson in his next film, which has already been written and hopes to begin filming by the end of the year.
Bone In The Throat – On the eve of landing his CNN-hosting gig, bad boy chef, world traveller and Kitchen Confidential scribe Anthony Bourdain has optioned his latest best seller to Dignity Film's Maggie Monteith to produce along with Lenny Beckerman and Peter Heslop.

Titled Bone in the Throat, Bourdain.s best-selling book has been picked up by the L.A.-based Dignity Film Finance and is being fast-tracked into production, according to THR. The King.s Speech producer Peter Heslop will back Bourdain.s book, which follows an up-and-coming cook named Tommy who takes a gig at his uncle.s restaurant, only to find that the scene is peppered with sketchy Wise Guys. Amazon compares Bourdain.s story to Prizi.s Honor, but we.re going to dial back any expectations until we start to see how this project...
