Jaclyn Philpott has been named the first executive director of the Association of Film Commissioners International, a global network of film commission members better known as Afci.
Philpott will take helm of the organization in the newly-created role on Jan. 3. She succeeds Eve Honthaner, who was named Afci president in August 2021 but stepped down in September for personal reasons.
In the role, Philpott will prioritize growing membership — currently the most geographically and culturally diverse roster in the organization’s 50 year history. Another key focus will be helping film commissions work with governments to recognize the film industry’s impact on regional economic and cultural development, job creation and tourism.
Other goals include expanding education and diversity awareness to empower members to create programs in their regions.

The HiFi Holiday Festival, hosted by Filipinos Advancing Creative Education (F.A.C.E) in collaboration with other HiFi organizations, took over L.A.’s Historic Filipinotown on Saturday for the second consecutive year.
Held at RideBack Ranch, the event raised toy donations to ship back to less fortunate families in the Philippines while spreading holiday cheer to L.A. locals through live music, complimentary meals and festive photo-ops.
“This is one of our favorite annual community engagement programs we offer to serve those less fortunate during the holiday season,” said Lyle Del Mundo, executive director of F.A.C.E. “It’s an opportunity for some of the many talented Filipinos in entertainment to donate their time and talent to connect, inspire, and this is their reason to celebrate the season.”
The celebration featured a line-up of celebrity meet and greets with special guests like Simu Liu, Patrick Starrr, Alex Wassabi, Paris Belrec, Vincent Rodriguez III,...

Jaclyn Philpott has been named executive director of the Association of Film Commissioners International – a newly created post that she’ll assume on January 3. As the new leader of the organization, she succeeds former Afci President Eve Honthaner, who stepped down in September for personal reasons.
“I am honored to be selected as Afci’s new executive director and excited for the opportunity to work closely with our members across the world to build on the accomplishments of those who came before me. The screen sector is at a turning point in history, and I see significant opportunities for growth and collaboration,” said Philpott, a native of New Zealand. “There is a Māori proverb that states, ‘He Waka Eke Noa,’ which translates into: ‘We are all in this together. We rise together, fall together, work together and keep going together.'”
In her new position, Philpott will relocate to Los Angeles where Afci is headquartered,...

Film commissions all over the world have seen a run on their services as production has boomed across the globe. And Afci Week, the big confab hosted by the Assn. of Film Commissioners Intl. that runs June 27-29, couldn’t have come back as an in-person event at a better time.
After two years without an in-person event, “people are excited to be together, to see their friends, to meet new people and to find out what’s going on in the industry, and meet with industry professionals and executives,” says Afci president Eve Honthaner, who took over the post in August.
“Afci Week is a uniquely exclusive annual event for film commission professionals held on a global scale,” she says.
Afci Week, although abbreviated this year to two days rather than five, with one optional day, will give film commissioners access to key entertainment industry executives, and panels on sustainability and “green” production,...
