“This can’t be right,” says a disembodied voice, over an image of an Air Force pilot, signaling to her wingman in an adjoining jet. The voice commands someone to go back further, this time to images of a little girl racing a go-cart. “Who is this person?” asks the voice, speaking for most of the viewers as well.
The confusion of the speaker, later revealed to be the Skrull Talos, comes from his expectation to see memories of Hala, the assumed homeworld of the Kree warrior Vers. He doesn’t realize that Vers was born on Earth as Carol Danvers. After Talos unlocks her memories, Carol recovers her identity and her full power, eventually becoming the superhero Captain Marvel.

In one week, Warner Bros. Pictures The Flash, directed by Andy Muschietti opens in theaters on June 16.
Ezra Miller reprises their role as Barry Allen in the DC Super Hero’s first-ever standalone feature film. Worlds collide in “The Flash” when Barry uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past. But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to turn to. That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian… albeit not the one he’s looking for. Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry’s only hope is to race for his life.

Take a look at more images of actress Leslie Grace as DC Comics "Batgirl", from the recently canceled 90 million budgeted live-action superhero feature, directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah:
"...studio insiders insist the decision to cancel the film...
"...was not driven by a desire for a tax write-off...
"...but by the desire for the studio’s slate of DC features...
"...to be at a 'blockbuster' scale..."
The first 'Bat-Girl' aka 'Betty Kane' (named after 'Batman' creator Bob Kane) debuted in DC Comics (1961)...
...created by writer Sheldon Moldoff and illustrator Bill Finger…
...then replaced by 'Barbara Gordon', as the daughter of 'Gotham City' police commissioner 'James Gordon'...
...in "Detective Comics" #359 (1967) by writer Gardner Fox and illustrator Carmine Infantino.
In DC Comics' "New 52" series (2011), 'Barbara Gordon', previously wounded in action as a costumed vigilante, regained her mobility after undergoing experimental surgery at a South African clinic.

The DC Universe has gone through some major upheaval of late. Some issues can be credited to the merger of Warner Bros. and Discovery, while other problems have existed for a while. Between shelving the nearly-completed "Batgirl" and the continually-troubled production of "The Flash," not to mention the spotty quality of DC movies overall — read our review of "Black Adam" here — Warner Bros. didn't seem to have a clear direction for its comic properties. That may all be changing with DC Studios, which will be headed up by auteur James Gunn and producer Peter Safran. This begs the question, what's next for the Dcu?
We know sequels to the company's more successful films such as "The Batman," "Joker," and the long-gestating "Wonder Woman 3" are in the works, and that "Shazam! Fury of the Gods," "Blue Beetle" and "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" are set to hit theaters next year. Then...

Marvel Comics and their Distinguished Competition have a long history of sharing talent, and James Gunn is the first filmmaker to bridge that gap like artists and writers have for decades.
With "Guardians of the Galaxy" and "The Suicide Squad," Gunn elevated B-listers from both universes to the silver screen. Now, alongside Peter Safran, he's going to be running the new DC Studios for at least the next four years. Warner Bros. Discovery has been searching for a leader like Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige, and it seems they've found two. Feige's mix of producing savvy and comics knowledge is a rare blend, but together, Gunn and Safran might be able to rival it.
Between "The Suicide Squad" and its TV spin-off "Peacemaker," DC fans have gotten a taste of the superhero stories Gunn likes to tell. Now, they're bracing for what projects will be coming down the pipeline. On November...

Flash Forward #1 moves Wally West past the controversial events of DC's Heroes in Crisis.
Heroes In Crisis was an incredible book. It told an extremely important story, delivering a critical message to an audience probably not used to hearing it. It also kind of breaks the superhero formula.
The biggest split between DC and Marvel characters has always been what the characters are best at doing. Marvel has the street level folks, the people with regular problems who also have to deal with being superheroes. DC heroes have always been the icons, the Olympian gods shining a light and showing us what we can be if we strive hard enough.
The point where they converge, though, is on legacy characters. Laura Kinney, Miles Morales, or Bucky all face their regular person problems in the Marvel Universe, but they also face problems fitting into or adjusting the...

Barry Allen will have a new costume when The Flash season 6 arrives in October.
Ok, so almost nobody really liked The Flash costume last year. Despite trading the leather look for something a little more hi-tech, a little more brightly colored, and one that emphasized the slim, runner's silhouette that so defined Carmine Infantino's early Flash comics, most agreed that there was something just a little bit off about the final effect. Most of that problem seemed to come from the headgear, which eliminated the chinstrap which helped to give the cowl a more symmetrical look, and the effect was occasionally that it made Barry's head appear a little too big for his body.
To be perfectly clear, I rather liked that suit, the weirdness of the cowl aside. But it was very much a point of contention among fans throughout the season. Well, you spoke and the Arrowverse listened,...

Filming on Warner Bros.’ DC Comics superhero movie “The Flash” has been pushed back to late 2019 to allow the filmmakers more time to work on the screenplay, an individual with knowledge of the project tells TheWrap.
The film never received a green light nor scheduled a release date, but was expected to start production in March of next year, however, Ezra Miller is scheduled to begin work on the third installment of the “Fantastic Beasts” franchise in July. The film is now eyeing release in 2021.
Created in 1956 by Robert Kanigher and Carmine Infantino, “The Flash,” secret identity Barry Allen, is a hero with the power of super speed that allows him incredible abilities, including time travel. The character was a part of Zack Snyder’s “Justice League” and debuted in 2016’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.” The character is also featured on The CW’s “The Flash,” played by Grant Gustin.

Today’s story is about reading procrastination, or about good intentions, or maybe just how there’s more things we want to do in the world than there are things we have the time to do.
Fifteen years or so ago, Dark Horse was humming along with its Star Wars comics program — a few things tied to the prequel trilogy, which was about to wrap up, but mostly in the “Extended Universe,” in-continuity stories that stretched across comics and videogames and the novels Bantam and others published. Someone remembered that there was also an old series of Star Wars comics — the ones from Marvel that ran from 1977 through 1986 and were solidly out of continuity by that point — and decided to reprint them.
I guess they were pitched to the Science Fiction Book Club, where I worked at the time. I was the resident Star Wars guy then, reading and acquiring...

To paraphrase John Lennon, before Action Comics there was nothing. Action Comics was the comic book industry equivalent of the Big Bang. Prior to Action Comics you had comic books, but these were usually collections of previously published newspaper strips, repackaged to encourage people to double dip, or newspaper style strips with Flash Gordon type characters. In fact Jerry Siegel and Joe Schuster, Superman’s creators and effectively the fathers of the superhero comic book industry (Stan Lee can be a honorary uncle) originally conceived of Superman as a newspaper strip, and had tried to shop it around but no newspaper syndicate would touch it. Their loss was most certainly our gain.
Action Comics issue 1, dated April 1938, was rushed out by National Periodicals (DC) to capitalise on the growing fad for comic books. Their Detective Comics book, still a year...

When it was announced that Joss Whedon was going to write and direct Batgirl a lot of fans were very excited about what he would do with the character. After all, Whedon is known for having a talent for telling stories with strong female characters.
Some fans seemed to lose faith in Whedon after Justice League was released and eventually he ended up dropping out of the project. Some fans were happy that he left, while others were bummed out.
Whedon recently talked about leaving the project for the first time since it was announced that he wouldn't be working on the project anymore. He was recently asked about it while at the world premiere of Avengers: Infinity War, and this is what he said:
"It had been a year since I first pitched the story — a lot happened in that year. I felt some of the elements might not work as well,...

Though Warner Bros. has ostensibly pumped the brakes on its live-action Batgirl movie following the sudden departure of Joss Whedon, comic book artist Rachael Stott has kept hope alive with a wonderful new piece of fan art that imagines Janelle Monáe (Moonlight, Hidden Figures) as DC’s new Barbara Gordon.
Embedded below, this stunning portrait is more of a carefully constructed sketch of Monáe in the title role – as opposed to, say, BossLogic’s renderings, which tend to dabble in the realm of photorealism. Nevertheless, it’s a beautiful tease of what could be, given Janelle Monáe was reportedly one of the actresses in contention for the coveted role – where she joined an exclusive list of candidates that at one point included Elle Fanning, Naomi Scott…and Lindsay Lohan!?

Nearly a year after signing on with Warner Bros. to write and possibly direct DC’s Batgirl for the studio, Joss Whedon has thrown in the towel and walked away from the project.
Despite the many comic books at his disposal where he could have taken his inspiration, Whedon just couldn’t come up with a viable story for the female lead superhero. Maybe the pressure to emulate Patty Jenkins Wonder Women was a bit too much for him to live up to, the tepid reaction to Justice League, which he completed following Zack Snyder’s departure, may also have added to the decision.

Earlier today, we learned the not so shocking news that Joss Whedon had voluntarily stepped down from directing his planned Batgirl movie for DC. Though it hadn’t been officially confirmed as being on the upcoming slate of Dceu films, Whedon had been working on getting a story together for the pic ever since the project was first announced almost a year ago.
Now that the idea has been ditched, though, the comic book storyline that Whedon was going to be drawing inspiration from has been revealed. When Variety reported the news of the director’s departure from Batgirl, they also mentioned that Whedon would have based his script on “The Million Dollar Debut of Batgirl!” (Detective Comics #359), which originally introduced Barbara Gordon back in 1967.
As DC buffs will know, the story was created by writer Gardner Fox and artist Carmine Infantino and saw Babs help out Batman and Robin...

Even though many enduring elements that we now associate with Superman were products of the Silver Age or the 1940’s radio drama, it’s important that we never forget the contributions that Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster made to comic books – and pop culture as a whole – when they created the Man of Steel for Action Comics #1 back in 1938. After all, that served as the very blueprint for the superhero genre as we know it today.
With that, one could say that the character’s 80th anniversary being celebrated by the release of the one-thousandth issue of Action is a bit too poetic. And appropriately enough, DC is complementing the periodical release of said issue with a commemorative hardcover titled Action Comics #1000: 80 Years of Superman. Suffice it to say, this is shaping up to be a must-own for any fan of Big Blue.
Understandably, many of you reading this...

'The Elongated Man', aka 'Ralph Dibny' debuted in DC Comics' "The Flash" Vol. 1, #112 (May 12, 1960), created by writer John Broome and penciler Carmine Infantino, as a detective who loves odd mysteries.

It was, for its time, the coolest comic book on the racks. Lucky for me, having just turned eight years old I was at the perfect age to best enjoy it.
In fact, I already was lusting for the comic by the time it hit my local drug store. The house ad promoting the issue had been running in several of the DC comics for a few weeks, and it intrigued the hell out of me. Back in those days when dinosaurs roamed the Earth, new comic book heroes were very few and very far between, even though 1958 was something of a boom year. DC had a title called Showcase that offered new concepts a try out – usually three issues. Yes, it was joined by The Brave and the Bold, but not until the summer of 1959. Showcase begat the Challengers of the Unknown, Lois Lane, the Metal Men, and the silver age Flash,...

From VancouverFilm.Net, Sneak Peek actress Juliana Harkavy ("The Walking Dead") as 'Dina Drake' aka costumed female vigilante 'Black Canary', as she appears in "Arrow" - Season 6, debuting October 2017 on The CW:
"She needs something tactical," said "Arrow" executive producer Wendy Mericle, about the look of Black Canary in Season 6.
"She has this 'meta power', but she also has the 'bo staff', so we just felt it was right for her to have something that was definitely more than a nod to the 'Dcu' character...
...but also something that was distinctive from what we’ve seen before.
"This really fits the bill. My favorite part is actually the subtle hint of the gold and yellow lines..."
Black Canary' was created by writer Robert Kanigher and illustrator Carmine Infantino, debuting in "Flash Comics" #86 (August 1947).
One of DC's earliest super-heroines, Black Canary has appeared in many of the company's flagship team-up titles.

Detective Comics is the longest running American comic book series. It was so important to the publisher, an outfit called National Periodical Publications, that one day they officially changed their name to reflect comic’s initials. They became DC Comics. Oh, sure, Detective Comics Comics doesn’t make sense, but let’s not split hairs and just chalk it all up to simpler times.
I’ve been reading Detective Comics for as long as I’ve been reading. Batman was the lead character since #27, 1939, and in the early days I admit I’d often choose the latest issue of Batman – with that big Batman logo – instead of the latest Detective Comics.
But then, right about the time that I was actively buying and reading comics on my own with minimal parental supervision, Detective Comics shifted direction. Batman’s superhero adventures morphed into detective and mystery stories. Many stories embraced a whodunit feel.

Batgirl is the latest DC hero to be touted for a solo movie, with Joss Whedon at the helm. But who is Batgirl? Let's take a look...
Holy déjà vu, Batman! Only last week I was writing about the announcement that a new member of the Bat-family has been given their own movie among Warner Bros’ already-jam-packed DC Extended Universe slate. Dick Grayson, aka Nightwing, was the chap under discussion then.
Last week, on top of that, the news broke that Joss Whedon is writing, directing and producing a Batgirl movie as part of the Dceu. Warners is clearly serious about expanding out from Ben Affleck’s Batman to tell other stories about cowl-loving caped crusaders.
Here’s everything you need to know about Batgirl, mixed with some possibly-useless fan speculation about casting, villains and more...
