"The Expendables" franchise has — smartly — allowed its titular roster of tough, never-say-die mercenaries to include women, as demonstrated by 2014's "The Expendables 3" adding Ronda Rousey to the crew and the upcoming "Expend4bles" (type that five times fast) bringing in Megan Fox and Levy Tran.
However, while making the first "Expendables" back in 2010, that wasn't quite the case. That film only features two female characters: Lacy (Charisma Carpenter), the cheating girlfriend of Jason Statham's Lee Christmas, and Sandra (Giselle Itié), the daughter of a South American dictator who wants to use the Expendables to help overthrow her father and his ex-CIA puppet master, Munroe (Eric Roberts).
Although Sandra is an integral part of the film, she's no trained mercenary, and ends up being captured by the bad guys and tortured for information. It must've been difficult for the Brazilian actress to deal with the atmosphere of testosterone-fueled competition surrounding her,...

Two worlds may be set to collide in the Chilean film, Caleuche: The Call of the Sea. The recently released trailer features Isabel Millalobos (Giselle Itié), a terminally ill marine biologist based in Boston, who decides to go home to Chiloé Island (located off the coast of Chile). She is there to honour a family request but what she discovers instead is how her family line ties in to the legend of a ghost ship similar to the Flying Dutchman. Here, she is known as the Caleuche. This local legend of a phantom boat tells of witnesses who spot this ship can hear sounds of happiness and gaiety from the dead coming from the decks. Mermaids brought those souls back to life. These spirits have a new lease on their existence such that their immortality does not need to be one of loneliness wrought by the unrelenting waves of the ocean forever.

After winning a loyal cult following around the globe on the strength of his festival hits Eternal Blood (Sangre Eterna) and Descendents (Solos), Chile's Jorge Olguin appears poised to break through on another level entirely with upcoming effort Caleuche: The Call Of The Sea. A project which had Guillermo Del Toro attached as a producer at one point - though he dropped out of the project somewhere in the development process - Caleuche gives Olguin resources he has never had at his disposal in the past and it certainly appears as if he has made good. The story revolves around Isabel (Giselle Itié), a Boston based marine biologist who opts to return to her family home in Chiloé Island following a serious illness. Sly Stallone's first Expendables movies was the definition of a boy's club. While there were some members of the fairer sex in the movie, like Giselle Itie and Charisma Carpenter, it was the men that were all of the action and violence. That will change in The Expendables 2. In the sequel, the returning cast members are joined by Chinese actress Yu Nan and she won't simply be the damsel in distress. Instead she'll be kicking ass and taking names with the rest of the gang. With the exception of the leaked poster from a while back, however, Nan has been absent from the marketing thus far, which has included both a teaser trailer and an official poster. So today is her day in the spotlight. An Expendables 2 blog (via Twitch) has uncovered two new stills from the film that feature Nan alongside Stallone's Barney Ross. See both images below...

Liam Hemsworth is the latest name to join the cast of The Expendables 2 , Variety reports. Co-written and directed by Stallone, the original Expendables also starred Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Eric Roberts, Randy Couture, Steve Austin, David Zayas, Giselle Itie, Charisma Carpenter, Gary Daniels, Terry Crews and Mickey Rourke. Lionsgate announced an official release date of August 17, 2012 for The Expendables 2. That is a week after G.I. Joe 2 (August 10) is scheduled to arrive in theaters. The original opened on August 13, 2010 and made $274.5 million worldwide on a budget of $80 million.
Stallone will be returning to reprise his role in the film as Barney Ross, but there are no confirmation on who else from the first movie will come back. I would love to see Michelle Rodriguez join the cast. The original had a badass cast of actors that included including Jason Statham, Jet Li, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, Dolph Lundgren, Giselle Itie, Eric Roberts, David Zayas, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Steve Austin.

The Expendables Part 2 will happen, if fact it's a priority for Millennium Films, but this time around it wont be written or directed by Sylvester Stallone. Stallone is currently meeting with possible directors to take over the project. A script has already been written for the films, and it's pretty much ready to go. It was written by David Agosto and Ken Kaufman who wrote the family film Curious George, and Clint Eastwood's Space Cowboys.

The Expendables
Stars: Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Eric Roberts, Randy Couture, Steve Austin, David Zayas, Giselle Itié, Terry Crews, Mickey Rourke, Charisma Carpenter, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis | Written and Directed by Sylvester Stallone
A group of mercenaries, led by the ageing Sylvester Stallone (who still looks like he could kick the arse of men a third his age), head to a generic South American island to overthrow the generic evil communist dictator on the behest of a mean-sounding CIA front man played by Bruce Willis. But when the mission goes awry it leads to all sorts of action set-pieces, the likes of which we haven’t seen the 80s/90s action movie heyday.
With the most basic of plots, The Expendables is a non-stop action-fest, with set piece after set piece hitting the screen with such a pace that you don’t have time to stop...

Featuring Dolph Lundgren, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Bruce Willis, Mickey Rourke, and Arnold Schwarzenegger, The Expendables took in $4.95m, down a whopping 63% from a week ago. Yet, Stallone’s throwback to the bloody ’80s managed to pass the $50m milestone. Total to date: $53.3m. Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer‘s Vampires Suck scored $4.42m in second place. The comedy stars Jenn Proske (as Kristen Stewart‘s human), Matt Lanter (as Robert Pattinson‘s vampire), and Chris Riggi (as Taylor Lautner‘s werewolf). The jury is still out as to whether...

"The Expendables" isn't a parody of an '80s action movie, you'll be relieved to hear. No, "The Expendables" actually is an '80s action movie, its cast groaning with back-in-the-day authenticity. The picture opens with an appetizer of modern-day-pirate carnage in the Gulf of Aden before zipping back to the States for a quick breather at the team's headquarters, a seedy tattoo shop run by retired teammate Mickey Rourke (peekabooing beneath stringy streaked hair, as usual, but also smoking a...

Chicago – Seeing them all together was fun. Enduring some macho joshing, even in the form of stiff dialogue, was tolerable. But doing a bad, boring action movie with Sylvester Stallone trying to prop up his “legacy” was sadly too much to bear. Jason Statham, Jet Li, Mickey Rourke, Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger are among “The Expendables.”

The Expendables is exactly what we were expecting – a great 80s action film. But is that enough?
With The Expendables, Sylvester Stallone focused less on the plot and more on the cast. The film features Stallone himself as the head of the titular mercenary group for hire which include Jason Statham, Jet Li, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, Dolph Lundgren, and Mickey Rourke, who has retired from the group. These tough guys are hired (over a similar group led by Arnold Schwarzenegger) by the mysterious Mr. Church (Bruce Willis) to take out a dictator (David Zayas) on the small island of Vilena in the Pacific who is being funded by an American (Eric Roberts) and his thugs (led by “Stone Cold” Steve Austin). Although reluctant to go through with the job, Stallone is lured back by the beautiful Sandra (Giselle Itié).
The Expendables is an action film in the purest sense.

Lower your expectations, action fans. The Expendables is most certainly not the second coming of testosterone-pumping fight films. In fact, it’s downright average.
While boasting a who’s who of past super and not-so-super stars, the focus of the story is devoted to mercenaries Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone) and Lee Chirstmas (Jason Statham) on a mission to take down a South American drug cartel and its dictator (David Zayas).
Ross mopes that his job as a mercenary has become — not is, mind you, has become — morally questionable and seeks redemption by rescuing the daughter (Giselle Itié) of his intended target. Christmas spends much of the movie stinging from a broken relationship, all due to his covert employment. Thank goodness the ex’s new beau is one-note and abusive, enabling Christmas to easily use his fists, muscle her back into his arms and exclaim, “Now you know what I do for a living!

Hollywood star says men behaving badly towards women face the roughest justice in latest action film
It's a film with more shootings, stabbings, punchings and aerobatic machine-gunnings than the rest of the year's movies put together but Sylvester Stallone arrived in the UK today with some words of reassurance: "I always believe the violence is justifiable," he said. "The one thing in my films ... I only kill people that need to be killed."
And then there are people who need to be killed in an even worse way than those who simply need to be killed – the men who do terrible things to women. "Let me put it this way," he told a press conference in London. "The ones that deserve it get it and they get it good and the ones that go after women really get it, you know what I mean? Really get it. People say: 'Oh,...

What do you get when you take the movie characters Rambo, John McClane, Chev Chelios, Ivan Drago, The Terminator and whole host of other dangerously epic action stars and throw them into one enormous cinematic pie (a pie filled to the back teeth with guns and knives)? That’s right, the most brain melting, spine crunching and ridiculously enjoyable action film to hit our screens in years, otherwise known as, The Expendables.
In short a team of mercenaries, given jobs by Tool (Rourke) who acts as a pipe-smoking, tattooed Gandalf, head off to an island to overthrow an evil dictator. As you can imagine things aren’t all plain sailing and soon the...

Let’s face it, Roger Ebert is going to take one look at this three-minute long trailer for Sylvester Stallone’s “The Expendables” and cream his pants in shock that Hollywood is still making this kind of movie. Heck, he might even write a long article about the evils of too many explosions in one movie. The rest of us, meanwhile, are gonna eat it up, cause what’s more fun than watching a bunch of invincible tough guys blowing up a small country and getting the girl at the end? Not one damn thing. And yeah, I’ll grant you that Jet’s English seems to have gotten worst, but what the hell, since when do you watch a Jet Li movie for the acting? “The Expendables” star Sylvester Stallone , Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Eric Roberts, Randy Couture, Steve Austin, David Zayas, Giselle Itié, Terry Crews, Mickey Rourke,...

It has been confirmed that Brice Willis will be joining fellow action icons Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger in The Expendables. The film, slated for a 2010 release, is based on a group of mercenaries who are trying to take out an evil South African dictator and shot like your typical 80’s-style action flick. Directed by Stallone, the film is set to pay homage to the action flicks we all know and love. Already with an impressive cast, including Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Jet Li, Mickey Rourke and Eric Roberts, Stallone has been working hard on his balls-out action flick for the past couple of months. This is the first film of a three-picture contract Stallone has signed to do with Universal. His next film is rumored to be another Rambo sequel. It’s a manapalooza! Jet Li, Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke, Sylvester Stallone, and a gaggle of other musclebound action heroes take on an evil South American dictator not named Hugo Chavez. Lots of asses are kicked, lots of buildings are blown up real good, and if Stallone, who also directs, stays true to his “gritty action” kick that he introduced in “Rambo”, then it’s gonna be bloody and flying bodyparts. One can only hope. Check out some new images from the movie, due out in 2010.
