Exclusive: In a development that bodes well for the coming avalanche of acquisition titles that starts tomorrow at the Toronto Film Festival, Relativity has closed a seven-figure deal for U.S. distribution rights to The Woman In Black 2. That is the sequel to the hit 2012 haunted house film that starred Daniel Radcliffe and was distributed in the U.S. by CBS Films. The sequel rights were controlled by Hammer and eOne, and the deal was brokered by CAA. The original grossed $54 million domestically and $128 million worldwide.
While buyers tell me they don’t see an obvious gotta-have-it title at Toronto like last year’s Can A Song Save Your Life, there is certainly an appetite for films that has been evident in festivals this year from Sundance to Berlin and Cannes. The Woman In Black 2 deal closed today, hours before Warner Bros opens the festival with the Robert Downey Jr-starrer The Judge.

We haven’t heard much on The Woman in Black since April, but filming is now underway and we have news of new additions to the cast, along with the UK release date. Joining Jeremy Irvine and Phoebe Fox is Leanne Best, who was most recently seen on Ripper Street. There’s no word on what character she’ll be playing, but it has been confirmed that she’s currently on the Pinewood set. It is also being reported that Helen McCrory (Skyfall) has joined the cast as well.
There’s news of a UK release date via Bleeding Cool and it’s going to be a long wait, as it’s set to open on February 13th, 2015. A Us release date is likely to be positioned around a similar date, but nothing has been announced. Here’s the previously issued press release that provides details on the new story...

Following the astounding success of last year’s The Woman in Black, which became something of a sleeper hit around the world for Hammer Films, we first heard late last year that Tom Harper had come on board to direct the sequel, The Woman in Black: Angel of Death.
We saw a pretty snazzy promo poster surface back in November, at which time we were still in the dark about who would be taking the leads this time around in Daniel Radcliffe’s place.
And now Hammer have announced that Jeremy Irvine (War Horse) and Phoebe Fox (Switch) have signed on to take the leads for the sequel, set several decades after the original.

Imaginaerum is a dark fairy tale from Finnish director Stobe Harju. Filmed in Canada, this title seems like an ambitious tale for a first time director. The film's story involves a composer who has succumbed to an illness. Tom is now in a coma. In his unconscious, Tom dreams up unbelievable scenes and scenarios. He fights both light and dark forces as he tries to recover his physical awareness. Currently, there are no plans to distribute this film in North America. However, the Imaginaerum soundtrack will be released in this territory in January of 2013. Fans of the imaginative can view the film's official and very stylized trailer below. Director: Stobe Harju. Writers: Stobe Harju, Mikko Rautalahti, Richard Jackson, and Tuomas Holopainen. Cast: Tuomas Holopainen, Marco Hietala, Marianne Farley, and Quinn Lord. The trailer for Imaginaerum is here: *this title has been released in Finland, already. Source: Imaginaerum at the Film...

Exclusive: CBS Films has acquired the U.S. distribution rights to The Woman in Black, the gothic horror thriller that stars Harry Potter's Daniel Radcliffe, Ciaran Hinds, Janet McTeer and Shaun Dooley. I'm still pulling together the facts on this one, but I'm told that CBS Films moved aggressively to beat out bidders that included Summit Entertainment, The Weinstein Company and Relativity Media. It becomes the third acquisition deal for the increasingly aggressive CBS Films, following The Mechanic and Gambit, the Michael Hoffman-directed film that began production today with Colin Firth and Cameron Diaz starring. Radcliffe plays a young lawyer who travels to a remote village, where he discovers the vengeful ghost of a scorned woman who is terrifying the locals. James Watkins directed a script by X-Men: First Class scribe Jane Goldman. The film is based on a 1983 novel by Susan Hill that was previously turned into a hit stage play and 1989 miniseries.

Daniel Radcliffe has moved on from his "Harry Potter" role. The 21-year-old actor, who is famous for his portrayal of the young wizard in the Warner Bros. movie series, has been spotted filming his upcoming movie "The Woman in Black".
In a picture obtained by Telegraph, Radcliffe is seen donning a Victorian outfit to portray lawyer Arthur Kipps. He reportedly films his scene just outside Peterborough with the production expected to continue until December around the U.K.
In the film, Radcliffe's character will be ordered to travel to a remote village and sort out a recently deceased client's papers. As he works alone in the client's isolated house, Kipps begins to uncover tragic secrets. And his unease grows when he glimpses a mysterious woman dressed only in black while local villagers are unwilling to explain the significance of her appearance.
