It was just last week we were celebrating the 20th anniversary of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, which catapulted Michel Gondry into the Hollywood system with the likes of Be Kind Rewind and The Green Hornet. After the failure of that superhero tentpole, he retreated back to France, directing a handful of smaller-scale features, the latest of which, The Book of Solutions, gets meta following a filmmaker struggling with the editing of his big-budget project. Gondry is now mounting his return to Hollywood, the details of which have now been unveiled.
Deadline reports he’s directing an untitled coming-of-age musical, which is loosely inspired by the upbringing of Pharrell Williams. Set to star Kelvin Harrison Jr. and Da’Vine Joy Randolph, coming off her Oscar win for The Holdovers, the Universal-backed project is set in 1977 Virginia Beach. “When we were asked by Power to the Patients to help raise awareness of the need for transparency in healthcare pricing, we immediately said yes. People suffering from illness and injury shouldn’t have to worry about being bankrupted by surprise charges for their treatment.” — Foo Fighters
With lawmakers, government officials, and their dedicated staff in attendance, Foo Fighters will join the drive to raise awareness about the inequality and uncertainty created for millions of patients when hospitals and insurers hide actual upfront prices.

Jelly Roll, Lainey Wilson, and Valerie June combined forces to call for a more transparent and equitable healthcare system in a new PSA set to air this Sunday during Super Bowl Lviii.
Organized by the nonprofit group Power to the Patients, the spot specifically highlights the way hospitals and insurance companies are able to get away with not clearly stating how much certain services and procedures cost and then billing patients afterward. This has contributed to astronomical levels of medical debt around the United States.

Musicians Jelly Roll, Lainey Wilson and Valerie June are heading to the Super Bowl — in a new ad for the nonprofit organization Power to the Patients.
The performers appear in a new spot that raises awareness about the health care crisis in America and pushes for officials to be more transparent about the cost of health care. In the commercial, the singers criticize hospitals and insurance companies for robbing patients, many of whom have dealt with medical debt.
“Hospitals and insurance companies all around the United States are stealing our future by looting every patient, worker, employer and family across the country,” Jelly Roll, known for hits like “Need a Favor” and “Save Me,” said in a statement.
Wilson, who won her first Grammy last week, added: “American citizens in need of care are afraid to enter a hospital.”

No stranger to corporate jingles, Pusha T has hopped on a new song titled “Paper Right” as part of a new ad campaign for the financial services organization Tiaa. While Push’s verse mostly stays on the theme of retirement planning, he sneaks in a coke rap about his drug dealing days, too.
On the posse cut with Wyclef Jean, CoSign alum Lola Brooke, Flau’jae, and Capella Grey, Push spits a cautionary tale from the past. “Stood tall on ’em corners/ Old ladies warned us, so they ain’t have to mourn us,” he raps. “Street lords said, ‘Join us’/ You could turn a brick to a Beamer, here some pointers/ Nowadays, I’m ignorin’ ’em.”
Push continues with lines about building a legacy for his son and leaving behind generational wealth, though he admits to keeping a “side hustle” to hit his apparently lofty goals. Stream the track and...

Pusha T has gone from dissing McDonalds to promoting long-term financial independence in a new posse cut with Wyclef Jean, Lola Brooke, Flau’jae, and Capella Grey, “Paper Right,” that’s part of a new Tiaa ad campaign.

On Wednesday, January 10th, 2-time Grammy nominated break-out country music star Jelly Roll and 3-time Grammy-award winning musician Wyclef Jean team up with Grammy nominated Fat Joe for a powerful event in Washington, D.C. to advocate for a more affordable and equitable healthcare system through price transparency.
With Congressional leaders and government officials in attendance, the artists will shed light on the unconscionable injustices created when hospitals and insurers hide prices, which stifles competition and allows the industry to evade accountability for overcharges and price gouging. As part of the event, Fat Joe will serve as the emcee, while Wyclef Jean and Jelly Roll perform.

In the beginning, there was Ms. Lauryn Hill.
In 1992, she emerged as a phenom as the first lady of The Fugees. Composed of Hill, Wyclef Jean, and Pras Michel, the group solidified themselves as a hip-hop powerhouse before their controversial split in 1997. Instead of crumbling, though, Hill rose even higher with her debut solo album, 1998's "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill." The album - which she's primarily credited with writing, producing, and arranging - quickly cemented Hill's lasting impact in hip-hop.
"Miseducation" not only provided a distinct onset of timeless lessons taken from the informal school of Ms. Hill, but it also was her audible love letter to hip-hop, Black women, and the communal Black experience.
"Yo hip-hop, started out in the heart / Now everybody tryin' to chart," Hill rapped on "Superstar." As she spoke to the need of maintaining one's self amid fame to govern true artistic integrity, Hill...

While most know Mick Jagger as the lead singer of The Rolling Stones, he has had a successful career as a solo artist. However, his solo work doesn’t garner the same attention as the Stones. Still, his name is enough of a pull for certain people, except guitarist Keith Richards. Keith Richards believed Mick Jagger wasn’t great without The Rolling Stones and hated one of his solo albums.

Goddess in the Doorway is the fourth solo album released by Mick Jagger in 2001. The album received positive reviews from critics and was a minor hit on the charts, reaching No. 39 on the U.S. Billboard 200 and No. 44 on the U.K. Albums chart. Lauryn Hill and The Fugees may have canceled their highly anticipated reunion tour last year, but that didn't stop the former group members from hitting the stage together at the 2023 Roots Picnic this weekend. Hill, who served as the festival's June 3 headliner, surprised audience members that evening when she brought out her bandmates for a brief performance of some of their greatest hits.
Per Variety, the trio - made up of Hill, Wyclef Jean, and Pras Michél - treated the Roots Picnic crowd to rhythms and rhymes from their 1996 Grammy-winning sophomore album, "The Score," starting with the title track plus other songs like "How Many Mics," "Zealots," "Ready or Not," and "Killing Me Softly With His Song." They ended their six-song set-within-a-set with a grand finale of "Fu-Gee-La."

The Fugees came together this weekend in a surprise reunion, which might prove to be the group’s final performance for some time.
The special unexpected gathering happened during Lauryn Hill’s headlining set at the Roots Picnic music fest in Philadelphia, where she was celebrating the 25th anniversary of her groundbreaking and iconic album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.
During her performance, her fellow former group mates Wyclef Jean and Pras Michel came up to join her onstage for a reforming of The Fugees that left fans stunned.
Together, the group also performed one of their biggest hits, “Ready or Not,” and the experience was unforgettable, both for those in attendance and those behind-the-scenes — including Roots frontman and festival organizer Questlove.

Ms. Lauryn Hill staged a surprise Fugees reunion during her solo headlining set at Philadelphia’s 2023 Roots Picnic on Saturday, bringing together the hip-hop trio for the first time since their 2021 comeback tour was delayed, and eventually canceled.
The group reconvened at the end of the New Jersey singer-rapper’s stacked set, which comprised most of her 1998 Album of the Year winner, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. Following her fan-favorite cover of Frankie Valli’s “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You,” Hill introduced her long-time bandmates, Wyclef Jean and Pras Michel, by exclaiming, “These are my brothers!”
The six-song mini-set closed out her performance and included the title track from their 1996 album The Score as well as certified classics like “How Many Mics,” “Zealots,” “Ready or Not,” and “Killing Me Softly.” They wrapped with the self-referential anthem, “Fu-Gee-La.” Watch fan-captured footage of Lauryn Hill’s set, plus the Fugees reunion,...

The Fugees surprised concertgoers Saturday during Lauryn Hill’s headlining set at the Roots Picnic music festival. The three band members, including Wyclef Jean and Pras Michel, did a six-song set in celebation of Hill’s 25th anniversary for her landmark album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.
Sadly, it may be the last time the three are together on a stage. Michel was found guilty earlier this year on federal charges including conspiracy, witness tampering, and failing to register as an agent of China. He faces a sentence of up to 20 years.
The Fugeees had planned a reunion tour that was canceled by the Covid-19 pandemic. They played one reunion show in 2021.

It was weird from the start.
Sometime in 2008, trailers for J.J. Abrams' upcoming film "Star Trek" began to appearing theaters. This new film, the previews announced this quite clearly, was going to be quite different from the "Star Trek" of yore. This was going to be "Star Trek" -- to employ a dated slang term -- on steroids. Audiences witnessed a young blonde kid in a red convertible Chevy Corvette blasting down a country road, a motorcycle cop on his tail. He charges toward a cliff with no sign of stopping. He dives out just before the car barrels into the chasm below. He is covered with dirt and defiance. When the cop asks him his name, he says he's James Tiberius Kirk.
It was weird enough seeing a car in the preview -- vintage Chevys were still plentiful enough to go joyriding in by the 23nd century? -- but it became weirder when,...
