TNT announced plans Tuesday to open its 2011-12 NBA regular-season broadcast schedule Nov. 1 with a double-header featuring the defending champion Dallas Mavericks playing the Chicago Bulls, and the L.A. Lakers playing the Oklahoma City Thunder. The network also trumpeted the fact that often-easygoing -- but sometimes not so much -- former NBA big man Shaquille O'Neal will be adding to the delicate chemistry of the popular Charles Barkley, Kenny "The Jet" Smith and Ernie Johnson in the "NBA on TNT" studio in Atlanta. But don't look for any of it to...

A couple new TV ads for The A-Team. Nothing really new if you've seen the trailers, especially the second, much better trailer. It's the one that has me thinking it might actually be fun.
The commercials perform the same function, which, of course, is the point. There's also a new spate of NBA Playoffs-themed promos for the flick, featuring Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith, and Ernie Johnson from TNT in their B.A. Baracus get-ups. Not terribly funny, but it's memorable enough. And it's vastly more entertaining than the network promos for the Are We There Yet? sitcom from Ice Cube.
So...enjoy. The movie's in theaters on June 11th. The videos, though they're on YouTube, came from The Movie Box.

After the heaping helpings of criticism that got larded onto TBS after their subpar presentation of the 2009 baseball postseason, the network has decided to take no chances with its broadcast teams this season.
According to Richard Sandomir of The New York Times, the network has decided to replace Chip Caray, who they dismissed after the 2009 playoffs, with a three-headed play-by-play rotation. The announcers are all pros: Dick Stockton, Brian Anderson (who announced one of the Division Series for the network in each of the last two years) and Ernie Johnson.
Yes, your eyes saw that last name correctly. Johnson (picutred above) is best known as the studio host for both TNT's NBA coverage, making sure he got words in edgewise between Charles Barkley rants. He's been TBS's studio host for baseball, and has broadcast it in the past. Even with his relative lack of baseball experience, though, he's got to...

Turner Sports is following the lead of Time Warner sibling CNN by diving headlong into social media.
TNT is weaving Facebook and Twitter into its "40 Games in 40 Nights" campaign to promote its coverage of the NBA playoffs, which kick off April 19. The centerpieces of the campaign are an NBA on TNT Facebook fan page and the use of Twitter by eight of TNT's on-air hosts and analysts.
TNT is setting up Twitter accounts for studio talent Ernie Johnson and Kenny Smith, along with feeds for reporter Craig Sager. NBA TV analysts Chris Webber, Gary Payton, Steve Smith, Eric Snow and host Rick Kamala will also have accounts. The on-air talent begins tweeting April 14 and will provide updates during the games. The tweets will then be shown on the NBA on TNT Facebook page and on NBA.com.
The effort follows Turner's use of Facebook during All-Star Weekend in February. Via Facebook Connect,...

New York -- TBS Sports said Tuesday that it hired former Espn analyst Harold Reynolds and Hall of Famer Dennis Eckersley for Sunday's All-Star Game selection show.
Like last year, TBS will carry the selection show at 2 p.m. Et Sunday. Reynolds and Eckersley will be in the studio with host Ernie Johnson and analyst Cal Ripken, another Hall of Famer who joined TBS Sports in 2007. The hourlong telecast will announce the selections in both the National League and American League for the July 16 All-Star Game from Yankee Stadium, which Fox will televise.
Reynolds is familiar to viewers as the longtime analyst for Espn's "Baseball Tonight." After leaving the network, he has worked at Mlb.com and SportsNet New York. Eckersley is the studio analyst on the Red Sox regional sports network, Nesn.
After the selection show, TBS will have the Chicago Cubs-St. Louis Cardinals game.
