Rereleased for its 70th anniversary, Elia Kazan’s classic exploration of corruption and whether or not to squeal is made all the more viscerally powerful by his own Huac testimony
‘The Romans found out what a handful could do, if it’s the right handful,” says Karl Malden’s priest Father Pete Barry to the crowd of sullen, nervous New Jersey longshoremen he’s persuaded to come to his church, like the early Christians hiding in caves; they are wondering whether to stand up to the crooked union mob boss Johnny Friendly, played by Lee J Cobb. Meanwhile, ex-boxer Terry Malloy, played by Marlon Brando, sits at the back of the church, smirking and eavesdropping; midway between Judas and Jesus, he is the washed-up fighter who gets cushy dockworker jobs from Johnny in return for shameful dirty work, his stevedore’s hook hitched over his shoulder. Marlon Wayans is back with another spoof of the horror genre, but it's one that's really, really not worth your time...
Just when you thought it was safe to go back onto movie theaters, Marlon Wayans is back and taking aim at the horror genre yet again with yet another spoof movie. Malcolm Johnson (Marlon Wayans) survived the events of A Haunted House, and a year after the possession of Kisha (Essence Adkins), he's found a new girlfriend named Megan (Jaime Pressly) and he's moved into a fancy new house in the suburbs with Megan's children Becky (Ashley Rickards) and Wyatt (Steele Stebbins).
As it turns out, you can't kill your problems in a car wreck, even if your problem is a possessed woman. Malcolm moves into his new house and the problems immediately start. There's a creepy doll, a box that drives Becky insane,...

Open Road Films released their new comedy/horror flick, "A Haunted House" into theaters this weekend. I just watched it , and thought it was pretty good, serving up a ton of laughs, crazy horror scenes, and more. However, there were quite a few lines that were just out right corny as hell. I find that they deliver up quite a few of those in these types of mockery movies. Anyways, It stars: Marlon Wayans, Gabriel Iglesias, Jaime Pressly, Ashley Rickards, Essence Atkins, Affion Crockett, and Dave Sheridan. In the new flick, characters ,Malcolm Johnson (Marlon Wayans) and his cousin Ray-Ray (Affion Crockett), end up leaving Malcom's possessed girlfriend Kisha (Essence Atkins) behind after they collide with a truck. Then the movie fast-forwards one year later to show that Malcom is married to a new hot chick, named Megan (Jamie Pressly), who is an insecure woman with two kids: her bratty...

The horror-parody subgenre has strangely become one of the stalwarts of modern Hollywood. The whole thing really took off with the original Scary Movie in 2000, and since then we have seen not only the release of four sequels, but also a whole new franchise: A Haunted House. The most recent installment of that series arrives in theaters later this month, and today we have an exclusive TV spot for the film as it heads towards release Directed by Michael Tiddes, who also helmed the first movie, A Haunted House 2 picks up with Malcolm Johnson (Marlon Wayans) as he tries to move on after exorcising his ex-girlfriend.s demons. He finds a way to move on when he meets Megan (Jaime Pressly), a single mother of two, but things start to get terrible and scary once again when they move into a beautiful house and a bunch of paranormal events...

Marlon Wayans returns for another round of spoofing horror movies and pushing the comedic envelope with A Haunted House 2. After the crazy events of the first film, Malcolm Johnson (Wayans) has moved on and started a relationship with Megan (Jaime Pressly), a divorcee with two kids. But once they move into a new home, some very strange occurrences begin to take place.
No horror movie is safe here. From the latest Paranormal Activity to last year’s The Conjuring, Wayans pokes fun at them all and the results are often hilarious, if not a bit silly. Audiences going into the film should know exactly what to expect from it, especially if they’ve seen A Haunted house. If this type of humor hits your funny bone, then you’ll definitely be pleased with this sequel.

Chicago – Few movies are as timeless as Elia Kazan’s amazing “On the Waterfront,” recently released in a Criterion Blu-ray edition that stands among the best classics-in-hd releases I’ve ever seen. And I’ve seen a lot of them. With amazing special features, including an interview with the legendary Martin Scorsese about how the film influenced him, and not just one but three HD transfers (for the three aspect ratios in which the film had to be shot simultaneously), along with a movie that actually gets better with age, “On the Waterfront” is the best Blu-ray release of 2013 to date.
Rating: 5.0/5.0
First, a word on aspect ratios (that is further detailed in an excellent visual essay on the first disc of the Blu-ray). “On the Waterfront” went into production at a time when studios were nervous about the encroachment of the television on the country’s entertainment dollar. And so widescreen was born.

Marlon Wayans takes on the Paranormal Activity movies with A Haunted House. Scary...
It's a momentous day in the life of Malcolm Johnson (Marlon Wayans). He's got a new video camera and his lovely girlfriend Kisha (Essence Atkins) is moving in to live with him after two years of dating. Big deal, right? Well, not only does she bring a truckload of her stuff with her, she also brings something else: a ghost. All of a sudden, Malcolm's awesome house becomes... a haunted house. Hence the title!
At first, the ghost is only a nuisance, rattling pots and slamming doors, but as things get worse, Malcolm turns to a rag-tag crew of stereotypes, from a pseudo-priest (Cedric The Entertainer), a gay psychic (Nick Swardson), and a bald-headed security system installer/ghost hunter (David Koechner) to help him get a handle on his possessed girlfriend and the demon invading their house,...

Blu-ray & DVD Release Date: Feb. 19, 2013
Price: DVD $39.95, Blu-ray $49.95
Studio: Criterion
Marlon Brando and Eva Marie Saint star in On the Waterfront.
Marlon Brando (A Streetcar Named Desire) gives the performance of his career as the tough prizefighter-turned-longshoreman Terry Malloy in the classic 1954 film drama On the Waterfront.
A masterpiece of urban poetry and a raggedly emotional tale of individual failure and institutional corruption. On the Waterfront charts Terry’s deepening moral crisis as he must choose whether to remain loyal to the mob-connected union boss Johnny Friendly (12 Angry Men’s Lee J. Cobb) and Johnny’s right-hand man, Terry’s brother, Charley (Doctor Zhivago’s Rod Steiger), as the authorities close in on them.
Driven by the vivid, naturalistic direction of Elia Kazan (Viva Zapata!) and savory, streetwise dialogue by Budd Schulberg (A Face in the Crowd), On the Waterfront was an instant sensation, winning eight Oscars, including for awards for best picture,...

Which British town is furthest from the sea?
The distance from the sea depends how you define "sea". Here in Ilford, tidewater – the River Roding – is just a mile away, but we are 34 miles by rail from Southend-on-Sea, the nearest resort. However, that is an estuary resort, shown by the wide expanse of glorious mud. The nearest good, sandy, seaside beach is Clacton-on-Sea, 63 miles by train.
Towns and cities in the West Midlands conurbation are likely to be furthest from the sea. Though Birmingham is only about 40 miles from tidewater (at Gloucester), the nearest resort is at least twice as far.
Residents of my hometown of Kington, Herefordshire, considered their nearest resort to be Aberystwyth, 60 miles away. This did not stop them contributing generously to lifeboat appeals, and supporting two fried fish shops.

The genesis of On the Waterfront is nearly as fascinating as the film itself. In April 1948, a New York dock hiring boss was murdered; it was the second killing in a short time. Reporter Malcolm Johnson was assigned by the now-defunct New York Sun to cover the story. Johnson's initial inquiries developed into a full investigation of waterfront crime. His findings were revealed in a series of 24 pieces, called "Crime on the Waterfront," published in the Sun between 8 November–10 December 1948. The exposé revealed rampant thievery, bribery, shake-downs, kickbacks, payoffs, shylocking ...Read more at MovieRetriever.com...
