Would it be a Benoit Blanc mystery if the movie title wasn’t a pop-rock song? Rian Johnson continues that trend with the name of his latest “Knives Out” mystery. This time, it’s a U2 track: “Wake Up Dead Man,” from the band’s 1997 album Pop.

Writer/director Rian Johnson got the title for his 2019 murder mystery Knives Out from a Radiohead song. When it came time to make the 2022 sequel Glass Onion, he got the title from a song by The Beatles. So it’s only fitting that the third film in the franchise have a song-inspired title as well. But while Radiohead and The Beatles were from England, the band that inspired the third title originates from Ireland. The band is U2, and the title for the third Knives Out movie comes from their song Wake Up Dead Man. Johnson made the title announcement by sharing the video that’s embedded above.

"Knives Out" was an anomaly. The 2019 film was a mid-budget movie with a fantastic cast of recognizable names that nevertheless did not bank on one specific A-lister, became a huge hit with audiences and critics alike, and became a franchise organically rather than planning sequels before the first even debuted. Of course, it helps that the film had a compelling and simple premise, a great comedic tone, a director with a clear vision, and a delightful characters including the one-in-a-decade great Benoit Blanc.
Rian Johnson's murder mysteries take inspiration from Agatha Christie novels, "Columbo," and even underseen 1970s murder mysteries to deliver compelling stories that — much like Christie's work — use archetypal characters to comment on issues of today. After looking at Radiohead for inspiration for the first movie's title and The Beatles for inspiration for the title of "Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery," Johnson is rounding out this trilogy by looking at U2.

Benoit Blanc returns in his most dangerous case yet. Filmmaker Rian Johnson and Netflix have announced Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, the third installment that will debut in 2025.
We first met the famed private detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) in 2019’s Knives Out when he was hired to investigate the death of best-selling author Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer). Blanc teamed up with nurse Marta Cabrera (Ana de Armas) to uncover the truth in a twisted case filled with angry relatives, red herrings, and fabulous knitwear.
Blanc’s skills were called upon once more in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, when he headed to Greece to peel back the layers of intrigue surrounding tech billionaire Miles Bron (Edward Norton) and an eclectic group of disruptors.
Blanc was last seen sitting on the beach of Bron’s estate on an idyllic Greek island, calmly pondering the chaotic events of his past few days.

Something is most definitely afoot in the Knives Out universe. Not a murder, though – at least, not just yet. Far more exciting than that, writer and director Rian Johnson has confirmed via social media that the title of the next Benoit Blanc movie, which sees Daniel Craig return as the dapper, drawling detective, will be Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery.
Johnson’s announcement came via a short teaser video, which includes a voiceover by Craig, in character as Blanc, reminding us of the movies so far. He says “In the beginning, the knives came out. Then behold, the glass was shattered. But my most dangerous case yet is about to be revealed.” Cue a shadowy version of a black coffin, before the Wake Up Dead Man title treatment appears. Given the lack of comma in those four words, their meaning is up to interpretation. Is this a plea,...

Movie writers and long-term collaborators D.B. Weiss and David Benioff are arguably most known for their work on HBO’s Game of Thrones. However, the two have worked on a range of other extremely popular projects, such as It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, 3 Body Problem, and Leslie Jones: Time Machine.
The two almost added to this list a new Star Wars trilogy that they almost took up back in 2019. In an interview earlier this year, Weiss and Benioff revealed exactly what led to the cancellation of the project, which they ironically wanted to title The Last Jedi.

"Breaking Bad" is one of the great television tragedies of all time, following high school chemistry teacher Walter White (Bryan Cranston) on an incredible downward spiral after he decides to start dealing meth in the wake of a devastating health diagnosis. There are quite a few truly soul-crushing moments throughout the show's five-season run because no one was really safe and major characters could get taken out in an instant — heck, even the show's beating heart, Jesse (Aaron Paul), almost bought the farm back in season 1! When Game of Thrones TV series creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss set out to craft an epic series called 3 Body Problem, an adaptation of a trilogy of sci-fi novels written by Chinese author Liu Cixin, for the Netflix streaming service, they were hoping to get four seasons out of the material. But when the first season of 3 Body Problem started streaming in March and pulled in a sizeable but underwhelming number of views, some began to question whether or not Netflix would want any more episodes of the big budget show. Now The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that Netflix has indeed ordered more episodes – but just enough to allow Benioff, Weiss, and co-creator Alexander Woo to wrap up the story. Exactly how many episodes that will be has not yet been revealed.

Netflix announced on Wednesday that it had “renewed” “3 Body Problem,” but the streamer notably didn’t refer to the extension as a “Season 2.” Instead, it appears to be more of a case of Netflix ordering “additional episodes” instead of a new, full Season 2 order.

It appears that the order will take the series to its finale, as creators David Benioff, D.B. The show has been producing almost weekly episodes since 2013 and has covered plenty of "Star Wars" news, and Hidalgo and Martin, among others, have been frequent guests on the podcast over the years.
Hidalgo spoke to my co-host Holly Frey ("Stuff You Missed in History Class") in a wide-ranging interview about his work with Lucasfilm and on "Star Wars". As someone who is intimately involved with the storytelling process at Lucasfilm, Hidalgo elaborated on how that works and what he really does. He's been working at Lucasfilm for over 20 years and was on set for most of the prequels and was even in charge of the revolutionary web-cam that was on set for "Attack of the Clones.

In a galaxy far, far away, no one can hear you scream…Sigourney Weaver — who is certainly no stranger to sci-fi — is reportedly in talks to join the cast of The Mandalorian & Grogu, set to be the first new Star Wars film in seven years by the time it arrives in 2026.
As per The Hollywood Reporter, Sigourney Weaver is possibly near a deal to become part of the Star Wars Saga with The Mandalorian & Grogu, which is huge and exciting news for fans of both. Time travel movies are tricky things to pull off. You want the science in your story to make a certain amount of sense, but you don’t want to put so much effort into your timelines that you start to confound the audience. If the tale being told is compelling enough, the viewer won’t feel the need to pick apart every single detail. When it comes to Looper, a terrific example of the time travel genre, director Rian Johnson said he didn’t want the audience to feel like they were doing homework. Johnson got it just right, since Looper works on its own terms, doesn’t condescend to the viewer, and uses the time travel conceit as a clothesline upon which it hangs the really important things, like its characters and the drama they’re tangled up in.

Looks like it’s not just Sundance that could be on the move. The Slamdance Film Festival, the smaller, independent stepsister festival to Sundance, has announced it will be leaving its long-time home of Park City, Utah and will relocate to Los Angeles beginning in 2025.

The festival also traditionally runs in late January, generally around the same time as Sundance, but will now be scheduled for February 20-26, 2025.

Rian Johnson and Edgar Wright both think “Challengers” is a grand slam.
The two directors took to social media to praise Luca Guadagnino’s buzzy feature starring Zendaya, Josh O’Connor, and Mike Faist as a tumultuous trio of tennis pros who may or may not all be harboring feelings for each other (they are.)
“So I loved loved Loved ‘Challengers’ – didn’t know what to expect, and walked out of the theater totally buzzing,” Johnson tweeted. “It’s smart and sophisticated while still poppy and propulsive, basically ‘Design For Living’ as a kick-ass sports movie. Seriously It’S So Good.”
Meanwhile, Wright shared on Instagram his own praise for the Guadagnino feature.
“Mio amico Luca Guadagnino has a grand slam* of a new movie finally hitting cinemas this week and it’s truly fantastic,” Wright wrote. “Go see the sexy, funny, and thrilling ‘Challengers,’ with the formidable trio of Zendaya,...
