Ok Go has shared the new track “This,” from the Apple Original Film “The Beanie Bubble.”
The band’s lead singer and guitarist Damian Kulash co-directed the film with his wife Kristin Gore, who also wrote the screenplay. According to Kulash, the idea for the song, filled with exuberant guitars and horns, was in the script: “The term said, ‘We close to unbelievably joyful music.”
The film debuts theaters on limited release on July 21 before streaming on AppleTV+ on July 28. It stars Zach Galifianakis, Elizabeth Banks, Sarah Snook and Geraldine Viswanathan and follows the story of the Beanie Baby phenomenon.
Kulash says the ending of the movie hits two emotional beats: “feeling a sense of victory and being pissed off about our system.” So, “This” needed to have a “sense of joy with a bit of melancholy and nostalgia to reflect the story and time.”
Kulash adds, “After almost two...

As cute and understuffed as the plushies alluded to by its title, Kristin Gore and Damian Kulash, Jr.’s “The Beanie Bubble” is a dramatic comedy born from the collision between two different fads: The Beanie Baby mania of the late ’90s, and the corporate biopic craze of the early 2020s.
Like “Air,” “Barbie,” “Blackberry,” and “Tetris” before it (remember when they made a movie about the thrilling race to patent “Tetris?”), this Apple TV+ original uses a footnote in the recent history of North American capitalism as the backdrop for a character-driven saga about the nature of success. And like several of those aforementioned stories of riches gained and/or lost, “The Beanie Bubble” ultimately says more about the state of the film business than it does any other. It says that we used to tell stories about people, but now we’d rather tell stories about products — even...

Dig deep enough through the eBay auction site, and you can still find Beanie Babies listed for hundreds of thousands of dollars. Nobody’s buying them at that price, but it’s a reminder that there was a moment in the not-so-distant past when the cheaply made stuffed animals fetched outrageous sums. The phenomenon, while it lasted, was fueled largely by the illusion of scarcity, as collectors chased what they believed to be limited numbers of the highly coveted critters.
Were they really so rare? “The Beanie Bubble” doesn’t have any particularly interesting insights into the craze, focusing instead on their inventor, disgraced self-made toy mogul Ty Warner, portrayed by Zach Galifianakis in one of the discomfort comedian’s most skin-crawling performances to date. Tonally, the movie walks a tricky line between easy-target satire and female-empowering corporate case study, falling into the overcrowded junk-culture nostalgia-porn category so recently represented by “Tetris,...

"Honestly, this whole thing comes as a complete shock to me." What did they do at summer camp?! Rlje Films has released the official trailer for a thriller called Always and Forever, the latest film from the director of You Got Served - Chris Stokes. This looks a bit like I Know What You Did Last Summer, but more of a suspenseful thriller than horror. After a tragedy reunites Nicole with her childhood friends, they each find themselves in danger, targets of a deranged stalker. Nicole knows this can't be a coincidence. The secrets of their past are coming back to haunt them. Starring Cynthia Addai-Robbinson as Nicole, with Robbie Jones, Lauren London, Wood Harris, Loretta Devine, Rocsi Diaz, Erica Tazel, Vanessa Curry, and Deborah Ayorinde. Not so sure this looks any good. If these kind of melodramatic "we all did something we wish we could take back" suspense films are you jam,...

In “American Dreamer,” Jim Gaffigan plays a struggling rideshare driver who gets roped up in a bad situation because he’s trying to provide for his family. And the actor says the movie speaks a lot about society and the American Dream.
“I play a rideshare driver, a guy who is down on his luck, is not doing well even in the rideshare game, so he ends up driving around a drug dealer and then there are a lot of questionable bad decisions,” Gaffigan told TheWrap’s Beatrice Verhoeven.
It’s about “capitalism, the gig economy — is it realistic? His approach to fixing things is a very kind of a quick fix, American kind of thing,” he added. “He thinks he’s entitled for things and doesn’t want to take accountability for things. I think every man struggles with that because we’re gorillas — we’re just animals. I...

Jim Gaffigan is a funny stand-up comedian. I enjoy his style of comedy, and he’s been a part of some fun comedies over the years, but he’s taking a surprising turn in his latest film project, American Dreamer.
This is the kind of film and role I never thought I’d see Gaffigan in. He plays a “down on his luck rideshare driver who makes extra cash chauffeuring a low level drug dealer around town finds himself in a serious financial bind and decides to kidnap the dealer’s child.”
This is a very dramatic and dark thriller, and this first trailer for it is pretty intense. While it’s hard to imagine Gaffigan in a role like this and take him seriously in it, it looks like he actually does a decent job in this trailer.

"Somebody took something from me." Saban Films has debtued an official trailer for a crazy indie thriller titled American Dreamer, from director Derrick Borte. The film first premiered at the Los Angeles Film Festival last year, and also played at the Virginia Film Festival. Playing off the rideshare society we live in, the film is about a driver who works for a company called Hail who makes extra cash chauffeuring a low level drug dealer around town. But when he finds himself in a serious financial bind, he decides to kidnap the dealer's kid - and obviously this doesn't go very well. Jim Gaffigan stars, joined by Robbie Jones, Isabel Arizza, Tammy Blanchard, Alejandro Hernandez, Brian K. Landis, and Curtis Lyons. Yeah, this looks as predictable and as mediocre as you might expect. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Derrick Borte's American Dreamer, direct from YouTube: A down...

Whenever a comedian takes on a dramatic role, critics and audiences alike react one of two ways: they either reject the performance outright for being anything but what the comic is famous for being, or they celebrate it like they’ve just seen a bear doing a card trick. Bill Murray’s turn in The Razor’s Edge? Rejected. Jim Carrey’s performance in The Truman Show? Bear doing a card trick. Comedians are so boxed in to being funny that we either won’t let them out of the box or we fall all over ourselves when they demonstrate the ability to do more than one thing.
Comedian Jim Gaffigan has had dramatic roles before, as recently as Chappaquiddick earlier this year. But he’s never had a dramatic role as substantial or as unbelievably dark as in American Dreamer, the latest film from director Derrick Borte (The Joneses...

Exclusive: Here’s the first look at American Dreamer, the new thriller directed by London Town helmer Derrick Borte and starring Jim Gaffigan. The pic from Storyland Pictures is having its world premiere Thursday at the Los Angeles Film Festival.
Gaffigan, who made his bones as a stand-up comic, takes another jump into more dramatic fare. In this movie (and especially in this exclusive clip — don’t turn it up too loud at work) you almost can’t tell that’s Gaffigan playing Cam, a down-on-his-luck rideshare driver who makes extra cash chauffeuring a low-level drug dealer around town. He finds himself in a serious financial bind and, amid growing desperation, decides to kidnap the dealer’s child.

Titus Welliver's righteous Lapd homicide cop Harry Bosch begins the second season of Amazon's Bosch on suspension for a stunt he pulled when last we saw him. Shaving off the beard he grew during his time away from the job, he playfully considers sticking with some mutton-chop sideburns and/or a mustache, before finally chopping it all off to the great relief of his daughter Maddie. This is at once a wink to the various epic stages of Welliver's facial hair on Deadwood and a nod to the fact that, in Michael Connelly's best-selling series of Harry Bosch novels, his hero sports a thick policeman's 'stache. Welliver began the series clean-shaven, in part because he didn't have time to grow anything after he was cast. But the shaving scene is a way for the Bosch creative team to make clear that, even as they continue to incorporate plot...

Yes, the final episode of ’90210′ brought some much-needed closure for our favorite Beverly Hills residents — though one character wasn’t quite as lucky as the others.
Last week, Adrianna (Jessica Lowndes) being crushed on stage by a barrage of flaming rubble seemed like a bad thing, but as we saw on the May 13 series finale — yes, I said series finale, and I can’t type those words without ugly crying — her accident turned out to be a good thing. Aside from a few bumps and bruises, the near-death tragedy brought everyone back together one last time!
Fearing for his one true love or whatever, Liam (Matt Lanter) canceled his trip to Australia to check up on Annie (Shenae Grimes), while Navid (Michael Steger Jr.) got a chance to play hero with Ade. Seriously, am I the only one surprised that zero rescue workers thought to check on the girl who...

Plus, Silver suffers a surprise tragedy, setting the stage for the saddest series finale ever.
We’ve seen Adrianna (Jessica Lowndes) pull some pretty sick shenanigans during the past five seasons — she’s basically Satan with boobs — but on the May 6 episode of 90210, karma finally came back to bite her. And by “bite her,” I mean “rain down fire directly onto her head.”
Ade sang ‘her’ contest-winning song after Fall Out Boy at a big fancy venue, and her performance brought the house down — literally. The lights exploded, kids were screaming; it was Carrie up in there. So is Ade, like, dead? For now, let’s just focus on the three super-insane acts that delivered Adrianna into her karma fire:
1. “All Silver cares about is that baby.” That’s a direct quote.
2. She recorded a 16 & Pregnant marathon for Navid (Michael Steger Jr.) because she thought it would be “nostalgic.”
3. When she thought Michaela died,...

Is there no hope for Liam & Annie? With the ’90210′ series finale fast approaching, ‘Lannie’ is now facing its biggest obstacle yet.
I’m really starting to get worried. There are only two more episodes left on 90210, and after watching the April 29 episode, I’m not convinced that any of these kids will be able to pull their lives together before the final curtain drops.
Annie (Shenae Grimes) hired a foxy lawyer to get Mark (Charlie Weber) out of jail, but things got a little complicated when secrets from Mark’s past came out — like that he was already on probation for drug-trafficking charges. And that he has two 11-year-old children who happened to be expecting a joint birthday party.
Jordan (Robbie Jones) was able to get Mark off the hook — at least as far as his legal troubles are concerned — but it required his mom’s help, so now she pretty much owns him.

Treating herself to a delicious dinner out, Kim Kardashian headed over to the Crustacean restaurant in Beverly Hills last night (April 17).
The “Disaster Movie” actress was joined by her close gal pal Brittny Gastineau and showed off her growing baby bump in a black blouse/black blazer combo with distressed jeans and black heels.
In career news, it seems Kim really impressed her “Temptation” costar Robbie Jones with her acting skills, given that she’s mainly known as a reality television figure.
Jones told press, "She's a great person and a wonderful personality. She was amazing and I think a lot of people were really surprised with her work because she really held her own and she really brought it home. And she was really funny and I think she did a fantastic job."...

Annie’s worst nightmare comes true, as she’s literally unmasked as the author of ‘Undressed!’ But how did Liam react?
90210 returned April 15 with the first of its final five episodes (ever!) and it proved to be a rough night for our girl Annie (Shenae Grimes). Because she refused to come out as “Author X,” Naomi (AnnaLynne McCord) threw a special masquerade ball for her book launch — but before the night was over, Annie was forced to rip off her proverbial mask, revealing herself to be the little smut peddler we’ve all known her to be.
But prior Annie’s official outing, Naomi assumed Jordan’s (Robbie Jones) friend Elizabeth (Keke Palmer) was the undercover writer, going as far as to call her a “whore.” So you can imagine how awkward things got when Naomi realized that, not only is Elizabeth not “Author X,” but she’s actually Jordan’s sister!

Plus, what can we expect from the too-soon series finale? Annie & Naomi’s on-screen brother gives us the scoop!
90210 returns from its month-long hiatus April 15 with the final five episodes of the series — but just because the show is coming to an end, that doesn’t mean there isn’t still plenty of time to hash out some new relationship drama. Charlie Weber tells HollywoodLife.com that Mark’s budding romance with Silver (Jessica Stroup) will be the “catalyst” for some major developments, including the “reigniting” of Silver’s feud with Adrianna (Jessica Lowndes)!
“Adrianna’s not happy, that’s very clear,” Charlie notes. “[Silver and Adrianna] have their own history with that kind of thing, and this definitely brings back those old feelings.”
Methinks that Silver snatching Mark out from under Adrianna will also inspire Ade to do something crazy and unexpected — you know, like hooking up with Navid.

With only five episodes left, the drama on ’90210′ is too intense for California alone — so it’s going bicoastal!
Keke Palmer may look gorgeous in this photo from the April 22 episode of 90210, but don’t be fooled; she’s going to find herself at the center of some ugly drama. Keke, 19, is joining the series as Jordan’s (Robbie Jones) younger sister Elizabeth — and a potential nightmare for Naomi (AnnaLynne McCord).
Keke makes her first appearance at a masked ball when the show returns April 15, according to Zap2it, and Elizabeth’s decision to keep her identity a secret is going to prove especially difficult for Naomi. But what exactly is going to go down between the two ladies? That’s still anyone’s guess, but it must be pretty bad, because the April 22 episode — photographed here — finds Naomi traveling to New York City to set things right with Jordan’s family.
