Guest writer Bill Shaffer takes us back to Lawrence Kansas in 1989, for a cast and crew re-premiere of Carnival of Souls. By Bill Shaffer Note from Glenn Erickson: I think I first crossed emails with Bill Shaffer around 1998, when I was still the editor for MGM Home Video and just beginning to write MGM Video Savant. Bill sent along info that helped me convince the MGM restorers to include a flashback at the end of Duck You Sucker. Although I didn't find out until much later, Bill was a producer at the PBS station Ktwu in Topeka, Kansas, and had actually interviewed Eli Wallach once about The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. Bill became a major source for info and connections when it came time to do the extras for the MGM releases of the Sergio Leone movie; all just to help out. I think the fact that...

Kino Lorber resurrects the obscure and fascinating 1974 Blaxploitation gem Truck Turner this month for the first time on Blu-ray. One of Isaac Hayes’ most notable acting performances, it’s a head above the general trend of similar genre titles of the period, even though the film features a familiar narrative already well re-tread by the time of its release. Hayes fashions his own soundtrack for this retro classic, an oddity begging to be rediscovered.
Truck Turner (Hayes) is a football star turned bounty hunter, in the midst of hunting down a vicious, sadistic pimp named Gator (Paul Harris) with the help of his sidekick, Jerry (Alan Weeks). But Gator proves a hard target to pin down, leading up to a dramatic showdown where Truck is forced to kill the pimp in self-defense. His death causes a ripple in the criminal community of Los Angeles and forces the aggressively violent Madame...

I have been waiting for this game a while now, i seen some of the early footage 6 months back and it looked great. Now, the game is finally released online through steam and in its full appearance, looks amazing. Every Kung Fu and Martial Arts fan needs to grab this, the characters are re-named but you can tell who they are instantly, such as Angela Mao, Jim Kelly, Jackie Chan, Bruce lee, Lau kar Leung, Gordon Liu, Tony Jaa and more.
The backgrounds on the levels looks fantastic, with traditional Kung Fu movie sets up like tea house fight, Drunken master training scenery and many more. Each fighter has there own style, Muay Thai, Drunken Fist, Karate and must face the lead villain called Red Ronin.
So, if you are a Kung Fu movie fan, this game is for you 100%. You have been waiting...

Every movie has to have its signature song and that certainly goes for the action-oriented males in film that are fortunate to have these finger-snapping tunes represent them on the big screen. The movie theme song indulges the audience and delivers a whole new kind of intrigue and feeling that we invest in the roguish ruffians on the big screen that some men would like to emulate and the ladies would love to cozy up to intimately.
There are music selections that do bring to mind the euphoria of the male action-packed characters we regard highly despite their moral compass. Maybe one can get excitable when hearing Black Sabbath’s “Iron Man” tune for the Marvel Comics superhero of the same name? Perhaps any of the musical themes for the countless James Bond films tickle your fancy? (there are two included in this article incidentally). Your preference might be in...

There are people still in shock, and mourning the all-too sudden and way too soon passing of martial arts legend and film star Jim Kelly. As I said when I reported his death back in late June, there are so many people who "reveled in his talent, his grace and his undeniable swagger," and I also recommended some films that anyone who is unfamiliar with Kelly (poor souls) could check out (Here).Even Michael Jai White wrote a poignant tribute to Kelly which I posted Here. However, as a tribute, and to keep the spirit and inspiration of Kelly alive, on Saturday August 17 in Chicago, there will be a special Jim Kelly Day of film screenings, discussions and martial art...

In his latest venture, Jai White channels some of Blaxploitation’s most famous faces – such as Shaft, Super Fly and The Mack - in the super-fly satire Black Dynamite. We speak to the actor about the film’s surprising success...
LOVEFiLM: Did you base the character on anyone in particular?
Michael Jai White: It’s loosely based on a few characters I saw growing up, such as Shaft, Superfly and The Mack - A mixture of guys who were the predominate archetypes for that particular genre. There were a few actors I based him on as well, namely Jim Kelly and Tim Brown. If Jim Kelly and Tim Brown had a baby, that’d be Black Dynamite.
LOVEFiLM: I heard that the trailer was shot before you had any funding or any story ideas...
Mjw: Absolutely. It’s really a bare bones trailer that we spent about $500 on in all.

When Peyton Manning threw that interception in the fourth quarter of Super Bowl Xliv, the Game says he felt the $1,000 he put up on the Colts slipping through his fingers. The underdog New Orleans Saints won the game and surprised a lot of NFL fans.
"I lost some money, man," Game admitted. "I was going with the Colts, man — for no reason. The Saints or the Colts, that ain't my team, man. I'd figured Peyton Manning wouldn't disappoint in the Bowl, but he got his Jim Kelly on. He could have easily tied that game up. But [Manning] was outta the game. I know that face — it's like that sick face n---as make when they knowing it's a wrap. He couldn't shake the face.
