The ensemble for Starz‘s upcoming Outlander prequel spinoff Outlander: Blood of My Blood continues to expand as the show unveils casting for familiar characters and new additions. In the latest round of reveals, Sadhbh Malin and Terence Rae join as Joscasta Cameron and Arch Bug, two characters who have made quite an impression on audiences over the flagship show’s run. The character is played by Maria Doyle Kennedy in the original series. Outlander has consistently entertained audiences with its gripping storylines. But those who have read Diana Gabaldon’s original books know that the adaptation has taken some liberties, creating unique twists on screen.
Whether altering characters or modifying key plot details, these changes have brought new dimensions to the tale, for better or worse. Here’s a closer look at the six times Outlander has made major changes from the books.

Exclusive: Apc Studios UK and Irish independent production company Tua Films (aka Magamedia) are co-producing Irish dark comedy-crime drama Obituary exclusively in the U.S. for streaming service Hulu, with RTÉ in Ireland pre-buying the series.
Irish TV and theatre actress Siobhán Cullen, whose recent credits include family comedy-drama The Dry and crime drama The Long Call, stars as Elvira Clancy, an obituarist working at a small-town newspaper, who suddenly finds herself being paid by the obituary due to cuts.
When she “accidentally” kills a nasty piece of work, she discovers she might have an untapped bloodlust, and sets her sights on other unpleasant residents of the town. Her killing spree hits a potential snag when the paper hires an attractive crime correspondent.
The six-part series is written by Irish scriptwriter Ray Lawlor (Le Ceangal), directed by John Hayes and produced by Nell Green.
Apc Studios’ Laurent Boissel and Magamedia’s Paddy Hayes are executive producers of the series which is being made in association with Fís Éireann/ Screen Ireland, Bai and The Wrap Fund.
“It has been a blast pitching this wonderful high-concept drama to various funders and broadcast partners over the past few years — an obituarist who resorts to murder to stay in a job,” they said in a joint statement.
“We’re genuinely thrilled that Hulu and Rte are already on board and it’s super exciting to be bringing it into production now in the West of Ireland,” said Boissel and Hayes.
Obituary goes into production in Ireland in 2023 and will exclusively premiere on Hulu in the U.S. later that year.
It marks the latest Irish drama series to attract U.S. investment, coming after Lionsgate boarded TG4 and Streamz drama series Northern Lights, as Deadline revealed at the time.
Cullen is currently filming Bodkin for Netflix, following a critically acclaimed run alongside Ralph Fiennes in Straight Line Crazy at The Bridge Theatre.
Paris-based independent production and distribution company Apc Studios is headed by Emmanuelle Guilbart and Boissel. Its Apc Studios UK recently produced Wolf for the BBC in co-production with Hartswood Films and The Light in the Hall with Duchess Productions and Triongl for S4C, Channel 4 and Sundance Now.
Galway-based Tua has over 20 years’ experience in the Irish entertainment industry, with recent credits including Irish Oscar entry Foscadh and TV drama winning Corp + Anam starring Maria Doyle Kennedy and the teen musical comedy-drama Eipic.

The source of this week’s other televised literary adaptation can’t claim the same global reach as “The Lord of the Rings,” but Sally Andrew’s Tannie Maria novels have proven reliable bestsellers in the author’s native South Africa since their 2015 debut. They now provide the basis of “Recipes for Love and Murder,” a South African-Scottish co-production that represents the daffiest addition yet to Acorn TV’s burgeoning portfolio of genial timepassers.
To some degree, this is formula fare with a capital F: mild comic, romantic and criminal misadventures in a picturesque setting. Watch enough of it, and you realize even individual scenes have their own formula. Find a cosy location, add light seasonings of plot and piano, and – lest anybody still feel too challenged – serve with a cutesy punchline, typically someone offering to put a kettle on somewhere. From its foundations up, it’s tea-break television.

Kylie Fisher stars opposite Maria Doyle Kennedy in Acorn TV's Recipes for Love and Murder. Jessie September is a journalist with little interest in working with Kennedy's Tannie Maria, but life is full of little surprises.
This is Kylie's first significant role in television, but you won't know it when you see her in action.
We caught up with her to talk about this exciting opportunity, get an understanding of Jessie, and a whole lot more.
Hi, Kylie. How are you?
I'm good. How are you, Carissa?
I'm good. Thank you so much. So where were you born?
I was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, but I grew up in Dubai. When we were one, my family moved that side. And then, when I was 19, I moved for university back to Cape town, and I've been here since.
Wow. Well, what a world traveler you are.
Yeah, I'm quite a culture kid through and through.

It’s rare to find a crime drama that also leaves you with mouth-watering envy, but Recipes for Love and Murder is exactly that show. Starring Outlander‘s Maria Doyle Kennedy, the Karoo, South African-set series based on Sally Andrew’s best-selling A Tannie Maria Mystery novels puts food and crime hand-in-hand with Kennedy’s character. Working at the local newspaper, Tannie Maria’s recipe writing hits a roadblock when her editor informs her that the column is being cut from the publication. (Credit: AcornTV) Instead, the paper is making room for an advice column and so Tannie Maria applies for the gig, offering advice and recipes to readers. Things take an unexpected turn though when a woman she was corresponding with about her abusive husband is found dead. While she teams up with her colleague Jessie September (Kylie Fisher) to try and uncover the mystery, she’s continuing to test new recipes,...

As much as the original "Orphan Black" series relied on the multifaceted talent of star Tatiana Maslany, the series was never just a one-woman show. While the current "She-Hulk" actor was doing her thing and embodying multiple different characters with widely divergent personalities, she was assisted by a strong supporting cast made up of the likes of Jordan Gavaris' Felix and especially Maria Doyle Kennedy's mother figure, Siobhan. The previously announced spinoff series, titled "Orphan Black: Echoes," appears to be taking this to heart and is off to a strong start with its newest casting.
Deadline reports that British actor Keeley Hawes, known for her performances in the 2018 miniseries "Bodyguard" as well as "Line of Duty," has joined the cast of "Echoes" in a co-lead capacity opposite Krysten Ritter. Although plot details remain under tight wraps, the report indicates that her character will be "a perceptive but sensitive scientist...

Here is a wrap-up of all the news you need to know from Tuesday, August 2, 2022.
FX's turn at the Television Critics Association paved the way for some announcements about new and returning series.
We already reported on the casting of Elisabeth Moss on The Veil.
We also learned that American Horror Story Season 11 will receive its premiere in fall 2022.
There had been some questions about whether the series would return this year, given the lack of updates.
However, we should expect more concrete details about the big season in the coming weeks, including casting details and a confirmed premiere date.
The last season featured two stories -- Red Tide and Death Valley.
The former won praise from longtime fans, but the latter struggled to find its footing.
Spinoff American Horror Stories currently airs Thursdays on FX on Hulu.
As someone critical of the first season, the second is a breath of fresh air.

Season 6 of “Outlander” aired between March and May of this year, which made it eligible for the 2022 Emmy nominations. Unfortunately, the Starz fantasy epic was completely snubbed when the noms were announced on the morning of Tuesday, July 12. All 14 “Outlander” actors that were submitted for Emmy consideration came up empty-handed, including Caitriona Balfe (who plays time-traveling doctor Claire Randall Fraser) and Sam Heughan (who plays her Highlander true love Jamie Fraser), as did all of the show’s behind-the-scenes talent.
It’s not the first time “Outlander” fans found themselves disappointed when the series wound up not nominated by Emmy voters. In fact, the first five seasons only nabbed a grand total of four below-the-line bids: music score (2015), production design (2016) and costumes (2016 and 2018). The popular program still has yet to receive any above-the-line Emmy love for its actors, writers, directors or producers.

The fan-favorite Starz drama “Outlander” is back on the Emmy ballot in the hopes of securing nominations for its sixth season. So which candidates from the show are up for consideration? Scroll down for the list.
Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan lead a parade of 14 actors whose performances will be considered by the television academy. As usual, Balfe’s performance as heroine Claire Fraser is entered into the Best Drama Actress race, where perhaps her recent appearance in the Oscar-winning “Belfast” could help boost her into the top six for the very first time. Heughan is gunning for his first nom for Best Drama Actor as Jamie Fraser. They’re followed by a whopping 10 supporting actors including Sophie Skelton as Claire and Jamie’s daughter Bree. Two guest stars are entered on the ballot: Maria Doyle Kennedy and David Berry, both for the episode “Give Me Liberty.”

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not watched Season 5 of “Outlander.”
Safe to say, the fifth season of Starz’s “Outlander” was dramatic on an epic scale and ended pretty violently. With nearly two years’ time since last season’s finale aired on May 10, 2020, there is a lot to catch up on before viewers reconnect with the Fraser family. In a recent trailer for Season 6, it’s clear Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan) — plus the rest of their brood — will have plenty of drama on the horizon as the Revolutionary War looms.
For those who haven’t the time (or time-traveling gemstones) to rewatch the last season of “Outlander” before the Season 6 premiere on Sunday, read on for a summary of Season 5’s biggest developments.

A quirky, colorful murder mystery set in the South African outback will be served up in “Recipes for Love and Murder,” which premieres its first two episodes Feb. 15 as part of the Berlinale Series Market Selects lineup at the European Film Market.
Based on the best-selling novels by Sally Andrew, the series follows recipe advice columnist Tannie Maria and her colleague, rookie journalist Jessie September, who spring into action when a woman who was seeking advice about an abusive husband is found dead.
Between cooking rich mutton curry and decadent chocolate cake, answering letters, and getting in the way of the local policemen, Maria and Jessie are determined to solve this murder mystery and catch the killer. But the killer might be following their traces just as quickly as they are hunting him.
Filmed in South Africa and Scotland, “Recipes for Love and Murder” is a co-production between M-Net, AMC...

The Wheel continues to spin, and it keeps releasing something better each time.
On the Wheel of Time Season 1 Episode 4, Moiraine finally got healed by another Aes Sedai.
However, she didn't get to rest for long.
Before getting into the episode, I need to re-state the brilliancy of the title sequence.
The imagery and effects tell their own story, almost like a history book.
The music used during the sequence also shines, as does the music throughout the entirety of the series.
The hour improved and continued the different story threads introduced in The Wheel of Time Season 1 Episode 1.
The villagers are still separated but seem to have found different traveling companions for the time being.
Egwene and Perrin decided to travel with Ila (Maria Doyle Kennedy) and her people for a time, while Mat and Rand were with the man from the inn, Thom (Alexandre Willaume).
These characters helped...

Rosamund Pike leads the way in what promises to be an exciting season of magic and adventure.
The premieres start and end with a bang and promise to bring excitement in the near future.
However, the production seems to falter a bit in The Wheel of Time Season 1 Episode 1.
I hate to speak ill of it because the story and acting were superb.
The special effects left a lot to desire.
The magic was better than the falling rocks but still looked unimpressive against the sweeping setting.
The plot drags heavily in its confusing and unclear world-building but picks up again at the end with a tense battle.
The effects of the battle lead well into the two following premiere episodes and make for an all-around good first set.
This first episode serves well as a first foray into the world of the Wheel but also lacks a lot of essential explanations.
