Last year, author R. G. Henning sent the book Sackhead: The Definitive Retrospective on Friday the 13th Part 2 – a 277 page book entirely dedicated to 1981’s Friday the 13th Part 2 – out into the world, and you can pick up a copy of Sackhead at This Link. Now Henning has turned his attention to the next sequel in the franchise, 1982’s Friday the 13th Part III, with the retrospective book Jason 3D: A Comprehensive Exposé on Friday the 13th Part 3, and copies are available for purchase on Amazon! The book is currently going for the price of $18.99.
Jason 3D has the following description: In 1982-83, the 3-D movie craze took the American box office by storm. Spurred on by new three-dimensional projection technology, Hollywood studios gambled on genre films. By 1984, however, most 3-D features had flopped, and audiences soon lost interest. But one unlikely contender managed to outshine the others—Friday...

Sometimes with a franchise, and I’m talking about a bona fide, hit making franchise that churns out money and fans movie over movie, you gotta change it up. Sometimes this happens with the main character going to space, or hell, or fighting Freddy Kruger… ok, it’s Jason. We are talking about Jason and his Friday the 13th series. On this channel we’ve seen many defenses of entries that could have been the Black Sheep, we’ve taken a gander and what the eff happened to the movie from production to release, and we’ve even looked at movies that were never made. When you take a...

It’s time for a new episode of the Real Slashers video series, and with this one we’re looking back at my personal favorite entry in my favorite franchise: Friday the 13th Part III (buy the franchise Blu-ray set Here). You can find out all about it by watching the video embedded above!
Directed by Steve Miner from a screenplay by Martin Kitrosser and Carol Watson (with some uncredited polishing by Petru Popescu), Friday the 13th Part III has the following synopsis: The third installment in the “Friday the 13th” series picks up on the day after the carnage with homicidal maniac Jason Voorhees stealing some clothes and killing a local store owner. Meanwhile, Chris and her sometimes boyfriend, Rick, are hosting a group of teenage friends at Chris’ lake house. Despite a run-in with a local biker gang, they enjoy an amiable weekend together — that is, until Jason...

We all have those horror movies that scarred us for life. Whether your blood ran cold from the macabre family dinner in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre or you found yourself disturbed and nauseous while watching Regan’s head spin in The Exorcist, these terrible frights became the catalyst for a lifetime of loving horror. When I think back to my childhood, it’s films like Tourist Trap, Poltergeist, and even Silent Night, Deadly Night 5: The Toymaker that left deep impressions. It’s like a frigid winter chill you simply can’t shake, or that ominous sensation that descends at nightfall and seems to rattle among the shadows on your wall. It’s certainly hard to imagine the fifth installment in any B-movie franchise having much to offer, but director Martin Kitrosser’s The Toymaker injected the series with a pinch of whimsy, a few drops of absurdity, and...

Joining the other two movies in the world of Blu-ray, Lionsgate has officially announced that the Silent Night, Deadly Night Collection is joining the Vestron Video Collector’s Series.
Featuring all-new special features, the Silent Night, Deadly Night Collection includes Silent Night, Deadly Night 3: Better Watch Out, Silent Night, Deadly Night 4: Initiation, and Silent Night, Deadly Night 5: The Toy Maker. All three movies are worth watching for their own reasons – Sndn 3 stars Bill Moseley as the killer, while Sndn 4 is just plain bonkers and has very little to do with the franchise or even Christmas at all – but in my personal opinion it’s Sndn 5 – starring Mickey Rooney! – that is the true underrated gem of this oddball franchise.
You can expect to own the collection on December 13, 2022.

The Friday the 13th franchise (buy the Blu-ray set Here) is my favorite horror franchise. And while Jason Lives: Friday the 13th Part VI is the movie I credit with making me a horror fan, my favorite entry in the series is actually Friday the 13th Part III. The film just celebrated its 40th anniversary last month, and to mark the occasion 2nd assistant camera operator Mako Koiwai shared a batch of awesome, never-before-seen behind-the-scenes pictures with the folks at Smoking Zombie Films. You can see these eight images, including an incredible shot of the filming of the alternate ending (where the heroine was going to be decapitated), in this Facebook post – click Here.
Thanks to Mako Koiwai and Smoking Zombie Films for sharing these pictures!

Throughout the month of December, we will be highlighting a film a day that has some tie into the holiday somehow. Some titles will be obvious, others won’t be. Some films will be good and, again, others won’t be. However, we think all titles are worth your time whether to give you chills inside your home or to make you drink more eggnog until you puke laughing.
Late one night young Derek (William Thorne) awakes to someone knocking at the front door. A present left on the porch ends up strangling his dad. Derek has gone into shock and won’t speak. His mom Sarah (Jane Higginson) hopes maybe a toy will cheer him up. They go to the toy store owned by Joe Petto (Mickey Rooney) and his son Pino (Brian Bremer). Old Joe has got some weird toys, like Larry the Larvae. Noah (Tracy Fraim) has...

Friday the 13th Part V: A New Beginning (1985)
Written by: Martin Kitrosser, David Cohen, Danny Steinmann
Directed by: Danny Steinmann
Cast: Shavar Ross (Reggie), Melanie Kinnaman (Pam), John Shepherd (Tommy Jarvis), Richard Young (Matt), Debisue Voorhees (Tina), John Robert Dixon (Eddie), Juliette Cummins (Robin), Jerry Pavlon (Jake), Dominick Brascia (Joey), Tiffany Helm (Violet), Mark Venturini (Vic), Miguel A. Nunez Jr. (Demon)
This film was the very first one that I wrote any kind review for on an online platform. That was the first brave step in my cause for championing this film. Albeit, it was a small step, because maybe two people probably stumbled across it. Either way, I did it and I’m not ashamed. Matter of fact, I’m taking it to the big show by including it here. All of my feelings for this bastard child of the series just happened to resurface...

If you missed Part 1 and Part 2 of our Silent Night, Deadly Night retrospective, be sure to check them out before you proceed!
After Silent Night, Deadly Night: Part 2 failed to garner even half the reaction that the original film did, the subsequent installments in the franchise from that point forward all went straight-to-video. It was in 1989 that rights holders Live Entertainment – who had released the first two films on VHS – spearheaded the revival of the series, rushing a second sequel into production.
Independent producer Arthur Gorson was the man put in charge of the third installment, hired for the job in March of 1989 with the mission of having the film finished and released on video in time for that year’s holiday season. Gorson was and still is to this day good friends with veteran filmmaker Monte Hellman (Two-Lane Blacktop), who he suggested as director of the project. Though Gorson...

It’s officially Christmas Eve. That means that it’s officially the scariest damn night of the year. You should be afraid, but I suppose if the apocalypse didn’t get you what’s an obese man trying to fit down a chimney with a child labor law violation or two gonna do to you? Welcome to It Came From 1980x. We’ve been following the “evolution” of the Silent Night Deadly Night series starting with a review of the first two movies re-released as a double feature by Anchor Bay and then moving on to the later three sequels that really have jack and shit to do with the rest of the series. That doesn’t mean that we dislike them although my personal preference on the third installment have been documented interwebz wide. This is the final entry in the franchise prior to the reboot/reimaging/remake that...

A day before Christmas and all through the house, not a creature was stirring except Larry the Larvae! “Silent Night Deadly Night 5: The Toy Maker” was a pretty good small budget straight to video sequel. One cannot be too surprised that the forth and fifth sequel went with a different premise per movie. Trust me, if you watch the second and third sequel, you’ll beg them to change the subject!
I know many who do not like this movie for any number of reasons, but I consider this the second best made sequel of this five movie franchise. It’s generally well done plot with pretty solid acting. Brian Yuzna co-wrote as he did the forth (director of “The Dentist” and writer of “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids”). It’s slow in some spots but I find it fun. Fun fact? Rooney protested...

A couple more cult-fave slasher flicks of the early ’80s receive the special-edition treatment via DVDs that arrive November 24. Well, it’s been seven years since Jason Voorhees chopped up foolish teens exclusively. Sure he shared screen time with Freddy Krueger in 2003’s crossover Freddy Vs Jason, yes he accumulated quite the body count in the film, yes it was a lot of fun, and yes the film was pretty damn successful, but diehard fans such as myself certainly missed that special “alone time” with Mr. Voorhees. Now Jason is back, solely stealing the spotlight and the lives of reckless youngins, and despite a mostly negative critical response and dismal box office staying power, he's still one massive murdering machine.
Over the last 29 years Jason has claimed more victims than even imaginable. From random teens, to strange drifters, to diner employees, Jason has eliminated just about everyone to (unluckily) grace the big screen with the masked menace. As a result of Voorhees’ obnoxious kill rate, fans have pondered the...
