Back in 2013, Amazon decided to let viewers decide which series it produced. The streamer put all of its contending pilots online and based the decision of which series to pick on viewer feedback from the pilots. The policy has led to quite a few unpopular and critically lambasted series getting full-season orders. That's going to change as the streamer ditches the feedback model and cancels several of its current series, including Sea Oak and Love You More.

Amazon Studios continues to inch toward scrapping its viewer feedback model.
On Monday, the streaming outlet and retail giant passed on three of its five comedy pilots, with Sea Oak, The Climb and Love You More no longer moving forward. The fate of its two remaining pilots — Greg Daniels' single-camera Upload and multicam Making Friends, from How I Met Your Mother...

The news well on Bitterroot has been dry for an entire six months now, but Variety‘s provided an update that should make any inconvenient waiting worth the trouble. When it comes to Chris Milk‘s directorial debut, it’s said that Nick Nolte — a man who, thanks to the untimely death of some horses, suddenly found himself with a freed-up schedule — is currently circling the lead role.
Written by Michael Gilio, the Black List script revolves around an elder farmer whose money was stolen by a corrupt bank. So, with no one offering any helpful services in this extreme time of need, the gentleman “saddles up his horse, puts on his duster, grabs his guns and trots off to Bitterroot to get his money back.” God, if that doesn’t sound like the perfect role for Nolte…
But, really, you’d be very hard-pressed to find an actor capable...

By supporting new films from the likes of Paul Thomas Anderson and Spike Jonze, I’ve invested (hardy-har-har) some level of interest in almost everything Megan Ellison decides to finance. The Pirates helmer originally planned to direct the project, but work on The Lone Ranger has prevented him from getting behind the camera, so the music video and commercial helmer has landed himself the job.

Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski is venturing into television with a drama project at Fox, which puts a supernatural twist on the cop/legal genre. Titled Magical Law, the project is being written by Pirates scribe Terry Rossio. It is set in a world where the existence of supernatural beings is commonplace and follows the specialized cops and lawyers who face the unique challenges of prosecuting otherworldly crimes. 20th Century Fox TV and Verbinski's Blind Wink Prods. are producing Magical Law, which has received a script commitment with penalty from the network. Verbinski and Rossio are executive producing with veteran TV writer-producer Jeff Rake, who is supervising the writing, and Blind Wink's Jonathan Krauss. Verbinski could possibly direct the project if it goes to pilot. CAA-repped Verbinski and Rossio worked together on the first 3 Pirates of the Caribbean movies, which Verbinski directed and Rossio co-wrote. Rossio most...

Director Gore Verbinski is finally getting a Clue. Universal Studios has attached the director of the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy to adapt the famous Hasbro board game to the big screen. He will work on the film through his company Blind Wink, and will share producing duties with Hasbro's Bennet Schneir and Brian Goldner. By the way Blind Wink senior vice president Jonathan Krauss describes the project, it doesn't sound like it will be very similar to the adaptation from 1985 starring Tim Curry. Instead, Krauss has called it "a global thriller and transmedia even that uses deductive reasoning as its storytelling engine." This idea of upgrading a board game is not new to Hasbro - the company has other projects in or near production based on their products. Transformers: Revenge of...

Universal Pictures has attached Gore Verbinski ("Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise) to develop Clue , a live-action murder mystery based on the Hasbro board game that he would direct, reports Variety . Verbinski will produce through his Universal-based Blind Wink company, along with Hasbro's Brian Goldner and Bennett Schneir, who also have an overall deal at the studio. Verbinski will next direct Bioshock for Universal. "Clue" is one of the few board games to surpass $1 billion in sales, in more than 50 markets. It was developed in England by a retired legal clerk named Anthony Pratt during WWII and released in 1948. A previous film version was released in 1985. Clue will be turned into a mystery that Blind Wink's Jonathan Krauss called...

Movies based on board games appear to be all the rage with folks like Ridley Scott set to direct a "Monopoly" adaptation and Kevin Lima ready to direct Etan Cohen's adaptation of "Candyland" and now we learn of yet another stab at turning Hasbro's "Clue" is in the works with Pirates of the Caribbean helmer Gore Verbinski attached to direct for Universal. "Clue" was adapted for the screen back in 1985 with the Jonathan Lynn directed film that starred Christopher Lloyd and Tim Curry. The film bombed at the box-office with poor reviews and a $14 million return. The board game is a murder mystery scenario centered on six suspects, six possible murder weapons and nine rooms in an unnamed mansion. Players seek clues to solve the crime. Was it Colonel Mustard in the Conservatory with the Revolver? Or did Miss Scarlet commit the crime in the Library with the Candlestick?...

Things are heating up already on the third installment, Eclipse. They haven't even started the second one yet, New Moon. When you've got a robust franchise, filmmakers are eager to get on board. Although we really wanted to see Gore Verbinski direct the BioShock movie, it's looking like he'll be taking on a drama about a rancher instead. Really? Universal has just acquired a script written by newcomer Michael Gilio (that recently showed up on the Black List) tentatively titled Black Hole about a retired rancher who responds to a phone solicitation swindle that wipes out his savings. While we all know that phone and email scams are a pressing problem in this nation, do they really take priority over the hotly anticipated adaptation of one of the greatest video games ever made? Apparently for Universal they do. "The script taps into the shaken trust the public has toward once-trusted institutions and examines how the people behind these institutions are sometimes themselves as much victims of the same blind trust," said Blind Wink senior exec Jonathan Krauss, who'll be producing. I'm not really...
