Only a ninja can stop a ninja. And only cool boutique companies like Kino Lorber can take a movie like Revenge of the Ninja and give it its own special edition Blu-ray release. Recently, it was reported that director Sam Firstenberg is on a journey to restore his martial arts film American Samurai, but one of the director’s more popular works is now getting a special physical media release with a bevy of special features. We’ve touched on the “Ninja Trilogy” from Cannon Films on our YouTube channel series, Reel Action, and Revenge of the Ninja is one of the films from the 80s that took the ninja craze and elevated it for the masses. Blu-ray.com reports that Kino Lorber is set to have the disc hit the market on May 21.

Smash hit gameshow The Traitors has been renewed for a second season by the BBC.
In one of the least surprising bits of commissioning news of the year so far, the pubcaster has opted to greenlight a 12-part series two of the Claudia Winkleman-hosted game show in which a group of “faithfuls” try and smoke out three “traitors” while living in a castle. The group compete in challenges and each night one is “banished” from the castle and another is “murdered” by the traitors. The word-of-mouth hit was all the British TV industry could talk about over Christmas, coming in for praise for its high-octane drama, diversity and range of authentic contestants.
The show attracted more than 3 million viewers per episode overnight for the BBC when it aired around Christmas time and was the biggest new series for young people of the year, according to the BBC. Produced by Studio Lambert in the UK,...

The Traitors brought fans of different reality TV shows together with its interesting cast. But was it enough for the murder mystery-themed game to come back with host Alan Cumming?
‘The Traitors’ had familiar faces to kick off the show
Many reality shows start with an unknown cast. But The Traitors stood out for having 10 reality stars and 10 unknown people to get eyes on it.
The reality stars got their start in different avenues. Arie Luyendyk Jr. was the star of The Bachelor and married someone in the cast. Brandi Glanville was in The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Cirie Fields and Stephenie Lagrossa Kendrick competed on Survivor. Cody Calafiore and Rachel Reilly played Big Brother twice and won once. Kate Chastain is from Below Deck. The Traitors will return to scheme again on Peacock.
The breakout unscripted series has landed a second season renewal three weeks after its premiere.
A renewal was a no-brainer, but the speed at which the show got picked up is pretty crazy.
The streaming service typically waits until more data is available, but if you pay attention to social media, the show has broken through in a way many TV shows can only dream of.
Hosted by Alan Cumming, this unscripted competition series is a nail-biting psychological adventure in which treachery and deceit are the name of the game.
Twenty contestants (including reality A-listers) come together to complete a series of challenges with the objective of earning a cash prize.
The catch? Three of the contestants coined "the traitors," will devise a plan to steal the prize from the other contestants, coined "the faithful."

Netflix has defended freezing cold conditions on an outdoor U.K. set where its real-life Squid Game unscripted series saw contestants sustain injuries while competing as winter temperatures plunged below zero.
On Wednesday, the streamer and its co-producers pushed back on claims in The Sun tabloid newspaper that players had been severely injured during production on a former air force base near Bedford, in England’s eastern region, during a rare cold snap.
“We care deeply about the health and safety of our cast and crew, and invested in all the appropriate safety procedures. While it was very cold on set — and participants were prepared for that — any claims of serious injury are untrue,” Netflix and Studio Lambert, which is co-producing Squid Game: The Challenge along with The Garden, said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.

The dystopian drama “Squid Game” was such an enormous hit, it’s not a surprise that Netflix is turning the deadly game within the show into an actual competition — minus the killings, of course.
Netflix announced on Tuesday that they are launching “Squid Game: The Challenge,” in which 456 real players will enter the game for a chance to win 4.56 million.
“As they compete through a series of games inspired by the original show – plus surprising new additions – their strategies, alliances, and character will be put to the test while competitors are eliminated around them,” the Netflix logline reads. “The stakes are high, but in this game the worst fate is going home empty-handed.”

Welcome to the “Squid Game.”
Netflix has announced the reality competition series “Squid Game: The Challenge,” inspired by writer-director Hwang Dong-hyuk’s record-breaking script drama. “The Challenge” marks the largest reality competition ever — so the streamer claims — with 456 real players and a historically high cash prize of 4.56 million.
Netflix’s Head of Global TV Bela Bajaria announced the reality series at Banff World Media Festival. With both the largest cast and lump sum cash prize in reality TV history, 456 players will enter the game in pursuit of a life-changing reward of 4.56 million as the streamer follows the model of “have a hit show, double down with a watered-down reality show spinoff of it, minus, you know, the actual killing.”
It’s also a staggering sum as Netflix right now goes up against investors, a dwindling subscriber base, and staff cuts.
The 10-episode competition series will be filmed in the U.

“Avenging Force” is an underrated, overlooked, action extravaganza starring Michael Dudikoff and Steve James, which was produced between the first two “American Ninja” films. Released by the legendary, mini-studio, “The Cannon Group,” many die hard action fans consider this to be Michael Dudikoff’s onscreen tour de force. Sam Firstenberg agrees, and even believes this is his own best movie out of the 25 films he’s directed.
On the surface “Avenging Force” is a typical slam-bang, exploitation action flick, but the social/political themes of white supremacy and systemic racism are sadly much more relevant today than they were in 1986. On the surface “Avenging Force” is a typical slam-bang, exploitation action flick, but the social/political themes of white supremacy and systemic racism are sadly much more relevant today than they were in 1986. The villains of the film, “The Pentangle,” are an extremist militant group of powerful elites that will destroy anyone that opposes their vision of what America should be.

Last year, Chris Watts, a 33-year-old Colorado man, murdered his pregnant wife Shannan and two daughters, 4-year-old Bella and 3-year-old Celeste, and buried their bodies in an oil work site. Although Watts initially denied having any involvement with his wife’s and daughters’ deaths, he later confessed to strangling Shannan and suffocating his two daughters, which, prosecutors argued, he did because he was having an affair with another woman and wanted to leave his family. In November 2018, Watts pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and was sentenced to five life sentences...

Enter the Ninja
The film that heralded the start of the ninja craze in the West, Enter the Ninja was one of many martial arts action films made by the uber-prolific producers Menahem Golan and Yoram Globus after they purchased Cannon Films in the late 70s.
Directed by Golan, Enter the Ninja tells the story of Cole (Franco Nero), a Westerner who is trained in the art of ninjitsu in Japan. Finishing his training he heads the Philippines to visit his war buddy Frank Landers (Alex Courtney) and his newlywed wife Mary Ann (Susan George), who are the owners of farm which is under attack from unscrupulous businessman Charles Venarius (Christopher George) because – unbeknownst to the Landers – there’s a huge oil deposit under their land! Of course having Franco Nero’s ninja on their side means that the Landers can easily see off Venarius’ henchmen. That is until he...

As we’ve been reporting, Syfy had its Upfront presentation to potential advertisers Wednesday night, and they spent yesterday issuing press releases. It’s a good thing they held the event at a pier, as there is a boatload of information included in the summary press release below. We made sure to get it posted before the weekend, since it will take you the entire weekend to absorb it all.
Some of it is information we’ve already posted, like the Ringworld and Childhood’s End development and the High Moon pilot production, some of it we posted about fairly recently, like Ronald D. Moore‘s Helix, some of it we haven’t heard about in quite some time, like Orion, Proof, and Dominion, and some, like the nonscripted shows, the anthology, and some of the projects announced, are news to us.
You’ll also see ratings info and other...

The average New Yorker sees more than 5,000 advertisements per day day. Assuming the average New Yorker gets the Better Sleep Council’s and Shannen Dohertry’s recommended eight hours of sleep per night, that’s a little more than 5.2 ads per minute. That feels like a lot of advertising. Steve Lambert of the Antiadvertising Agency certainly thinks so. Since 2004 he’s engineered a number of urban art initiatives, which simultaneously attack, call attention to, and question the intrusive nature of mass unsolicited cosmopolitan shill and the impact of a developed world where individuals have all but accepted paid public placement as the norm and not a nuisance. Chris Anderson and Ted think thousands of ad impressions a day is a lot of advertising, too. But instead of participating in initiatives that call for its cessation, they want to make advertising better. Enter Ads Worth Spreading. Last year, the super-elite Southern...

A judge has blocked the $3. 2 million sale of an Oscar given to Judy Garland - because the Academy of Motion Pictures can buy it for $10. The special Oscar, given to Garland for movie classic Wizard of Oz, The (1939), was offered for sale last month on the website of Nate Saunders, a well-known Los Angeles autograph dealer - and it is believed Garland's ex- husband Sid Luft was the real seller of the statue, which has been missing for 40 years. But the courts stepped in because a 1951 agreement gives the Academy a chance to buy back any Oscar for ten dollars. However, Steven Lambert a Chicago dealer, says the court order may be useless. He explains, "By the time the court order was issued, there were tens of thousands of people across the globe who had seen the offer on the internet. After that, a deal can be done privately."...
