Sunday’s SAG Awards ceremony will be a streaming event for the first time on the Netflix YouTube channel. One of the highlights each year is the special In Memoriam segment. It’s been a particularly rough year with over 100 deaths of prominent actors and actresses who were likely members of SAG/AFTRA. Show producers typically are able to include approximately 40-50 people in a tribute.
Among that group will certainly be Oscar winners Louise Fletcher, William Hurt and Irene Cara, plus nominees Angela Lansbury (a SAG life achievement recipient) and Melinda Dillon. Emmy champs Mary Alice, Kirstie Alley, Leslie Jordan, Ray Liotta, Stuart Margolin, Robert Morse and Barbara Walters.

Exclusive Interview: Actress Adrienne King Talks Psychic Experiment, Her Return to Acting, and More!
Today, December 6th, Lionsgate unleashes writer/director Mel House's Psychic Experiment on DVD shelves everywhere (the film is also currently available on VOD platforms). It features an all-star cast including Katie Featherston, Debbie Rochon, Reggie Bannister, Glenn Morshower, Kathy Lamkin and Shannon Lark as well as the subject of this interview, Friday the 13th's original final girl herself- Adrienne King.
Psychic Experiment is centered around an idyllic, small, self-sufficient community which seems like the perfect neighborhood on the surface. After all, everything you could possibly need is within walking distance. But eventually the pastoral exterior conceals a dark past and an even darker secret, and as a group of individuals - each with their own ties and agendas with the town and each other - converge on the enclave, strange things begin to happen. Very strange things. Strange enough to test - and then break - the very fabric of reality itself.

The year is 1969 (supposedly). A group of friends traveling to a rally in Washington, D.C. hitch a ride with a nice enough fellow they meet up with at a run down gas station. However, a few miles along their journey, the fellow's car breaks down, causing the group to have to hike through the hills in search of shelter and help. They happen upon an isolated farmhouse, which at first seems abandoned. They take it upon themselves to camp out in the barn for the night, only to be greeted by the Stauton family in the morning. This odd bunch consists of the the mother, grandmother, and a mentally challenged adult boy. Everyone knows Kristen Stewart, if you don't, you're a hermit living in a cave and have never heard of the "Twilight" franchise. Some like her, some love her and, certainly somewhere, some dislike her for whatever reason that may be. That comes with the territory. Still, in "Welcome to the Rileys," Stewart looks to have turned in what could be her most powerful performance, shining away from the overseen Stephenie Meyer-adapted flicks. James Gandolfini and Melissa Leo also star in this moving drama helmed by Jake Scott (2004's "Tooth Fairy" horror). Penned by Ken Hixon, the film was nominee for the Grand Jury Prize at this year's Sundance Film Festival. Other cast members include Lance E. Nichols, David Jensen, Kathy Lamkin, Tiffany Coty and Michael Wozniak.

If nothing else, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning should help quell the frequent complaint that major-studio horror films wimp out when it comes to graphic violence and uncompromising cruelty. Just this year alone, Hostel, the Hills Have Eyes remake, the upcoming Turistas and (perhaps most of all) this latest Chainsaw entry have been unafraid and unapologetic about subjecting audiences and onscreen victims to severe levels of savagery and bloodshed.
As for originality in the majors’ contributions to the genre, well…that’s another matter. Yet The Beginning is about as good as one could expect a prequel to a remake of a classic to be; it’s a seriously intended and sometimes quite disturbing film whose greatest liability just might...

Already released October 6, 2009 Anchor Bay Entertainments blood-thristy "Staunton Hill" can be found on DVD with a gorey trailer now available. Very much in the horror realm "Staunton Hill" is directed by George A. Romero's son Cameron Romero and despite a straight-to-dvd release much more will be heard from this director once this film gets a wider audience. Check out the trailer for Romero's "Staunton Hill" inside.
A synopsis for "Staunton Hill" can be found here:
"When a group of hikers take off for a weekend of fun and adventure in a remote mountain region, they unwittingly stumble across the Staunton family, for whom the hill is named, and find themselves at the mercy of a depraved, diabolical brood that will stop at nothing to rid their property of these "trespassers." The only law on Staunton's Hill is the law of the Stauntons...and, in this case, the penalty for defying that law is death.

Have you seen The Texas Chainsaw Massacre? Either the 1974 Tobe Hooper original or the 2003 remake? Then you’ve seen Anchor Bay’s new-to-dvd Staunton Hill. Except it’s nowhere near as good as the trailblazing former or surprising, way-better-than-expected remake. In fact, while watching this flick, I said to myself, “Hey, that crazy, corpulent redneck woman reminds me of that crazy, corpulent redneck woman from the Texas Chainsaw remake and its prequel.” And—surprise! surprise!—when I checked out the actors’ names and credits, I discovered that the crazy, corpulent redneck woman in Staunton Hill actually is the same crazy, corpulent redneck woman from the Texas Chainsaw remake and its prequel: Kathy Lamkin.
