The Harvey Fierstein-Cyndi Lauper musical Kinky Boots (based on the 2005 British film) dominated the Tony nominations, garnering 13 Tony nominations, including a best score nod for Lauper for her first-ever musical. Trailing not far behind were Matilda (12 nods), whose four tweens sharing the title role will be recognized with a special award on Tony night, Pippin (10 nods), and Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella (9 nods).

The 2013 Tony Award nominations were announced this morning by actor Jesse Tyler Ferguson and five-time nominated Broadway regular Sutton Foster.
The musical "Kinky Boots" nabbed the most nominations with a total of 13 Tony nods, making the fetish footwear-themed production this year's leading favorite. Its chief rival -- the kid-friendly "Matilda" -- followed close behind with a respectable 12. In the play category, the "Golden Boy" revival secured the highest number of mentions with a total of eight nominations, while Nora Ephron's "Lucky Guy" starring Tom Hanks earned six.
Big names in the acting nominations department included Hanks, Nathan Lane, Laurie Metcalf and Cicely Tyson. Notably missing were Bette Midler, Jessica Chastain, Scarlett Johansson and Alec Baldwin, just a handful of celebrities who graced the Broadway stage this season but were snubbed when it came to the Tony announcements.

New musicals "Kinky Boots" and "Matilda" will be neck and neck at the Tony Awards in June with 13 and 12 nods, respectively. Actors Sutton Foster and Jesse Tyler Ferguson announced the nominations for the 67th Annual Tony Awards Tuesday morning at the Lincoln Center Performing Arts Library. The four actors who share the title role in "Matilda" were ruled ineligible to compete in the Leading Actress in a Musical category on Friday, and instead will receive a Tony Honor for Excellence in the Theatre, alongside Career Transition for Dancers, agent William Craver, stage manager Peter Lawrence, and theater company the Lost Colony. Musical revivals "Rodgers + Hammerstein's Cinderella" and "Pippin" follow closely in the race, with 10 and 9 recognitions, and Lincoln Center's critically lauded production of "Golden Boy" leads the play revivals with 8 nods. In the new play category, Nora Ephron's "Lucky Guy," starring Tom Hanks, and Christopher Durang's "Vanya...

For decades, Peter Lawrence has been telling large corporations that they should, "put design in the DNA of the company." The story of Romeo and Juliet is one that has been adapted millions of times but I've never seen it take on a life quite like this one.
From the minds of Peter Lawrence and Thierry Schiel comes The Way of the Cat, a wholly new approach to the age old tale of lovers torn by family and society. But there’s much more to this story than romance because the tale takes places on the ship-city of Catatonia described as a "steam-punk creation several kilometers long, which 'sails' a parched and hostile desert, eternally searching for life-giving water." If that’s not cool enough, there’s also the little fact that these aren’t humans.
Check out these details:
The Katzers are the city’s ruling class – evolved feline humanoids who have maintained their grip on Catatonian society for as long as history records.
The Caninists are the subservient...

It was a night of laughs & tears as Hollywood continues to search for the cure. The star of the night was the late Peter Lawrence Boyle, who died in 2006 from multiple myeloma and heart disease. The Emmy-Award winning actor was known most recently as the cranky and sarcastic Father, Frank Barone on the CBS hit show Everybody Loves Raymond. Cast members like Doris Roberts, Patricia Heaton, and Ray Romano were joined by the likes of...
