After just three short weekends in theaters, Universal Pictures is pretty much pulling the plug on "The Fall Guy." The studio has announced that director David Leitch's action/comedy is available to stream on VOD as of today. Indeed, the summer blockbuster starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt can now be watched from the comfort of home, effectively kneecapping its run at the box office. For those who didn't feel the need to rush out to a theater for this one, that might be welcome news. For just about everyone else? It's a sign of a much bigger problem Hollywood must contend with.
"The Fall Guy" made $8.35 million in its third weekend, coming at number four on the charts behind "The Strangers: Chapter 1" ($11.8 million), "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes" ($25.4 million), and "If" ($33.7 million). If you love entertainment, grand-scale action, charismatic leads, and films about making films then you shouldn’t miss The Fall Guy. Directed by David Leitch from a screenplay by Drew Pearce, the romantic action-comedy film is a throwback to blockbusters which had only one purpose, entertainment. Directed by a previous stunt performer turned director himself The Fall Guy is entirely dedicated to the men and women who “take it on the chin” for our entertainment.

Ryan Gosling’s latest project, The Fall Guy, has been met with a cruel twist of fate, following its release on 3 May, 2024. After barely running for a month, the movie is now preparing for its release on streaming platforms. Managing to gross $127M so far on a $140M budget, producers are now looking to capitalize on Gosling’s film by shortening its traditional theatrical run.

One of the better and more uplifting action comedies of the year, The Fall Guy, was well-received by both fans and critics, who generally praised the movie and its execution. But, it seems that the fans did not help the movie that much, as the movie will be available on digital platforms starting on May 21, 2024 (tomorrow) after a theatrical run of just 19 days! While this is certainly great for the fans, who will now be able to enjoy the movie from their homes, it is bad news for the film’s budget, as the digital release will definitely decrease the box office income, which hasn’t been that great in the first place.
According to different sources, the movie has a production budget of $125–150 million but earned just $127,566,845 at the global box office on May 20, 2024, as per Box Office Mojo. This means that the movie will see a digital release...

What do we want? Fun, throwback Hollywood productions full of star power and well-shot action and romance! When do we want it? Now!
Director David Leitch apparently heard the cries of countless movie lovers and delivered with "The Fall Guy," the romantic comedy led by Ryan Gosling as stuntman extraordinaire Colt Seavers and Emily Blunt as director Judy Moreno. The film enjoyed a wave of critical hype and positive word of mouth in the weeks ahead of release (you can check out Jacob Hall's South by Southwest Film Festival review for /Film here), though the combination of a slightly ambitious budget and a somewhat tepid response from general audiences conspired to put a damper on what should've been a runaway box-office hit. Sunday Am, 5:36 Am: Saturdays were good to If lifting the pic to a now $34M opening after a $13.6M Saturday, up 32% against $10.3M Friday and previews. That means that A CinemaScore word of mouth is working. I’m hearing tracking was over its skis predicting it at $40M, and presales all along indicated it was in the $30M range. The John Krasinski directed/written/produced movie drew 50% general and 50% family, and the reason why If is a little lighter is because those 50% Rotten Tomatoes scores kept the main audience away. Pic will easily keep families coming to theaters even with Garfield next weekend. Two family movies can share the marketplace.

Paramount’s family comedy “If” is leading domestic charts in its opening after earning $10.3 million from 4,041 locations across Friday and preview screenings. But the John Krasinski-directed fantasy feature has decidedly fallen behind its projections heading into the weekend, which had originally forecast a debut around $40 million. The film is now looking to finish closer to $31.5 million.
It’s a marked underperformance for the PG-rated family film, which sports a substantial $110 million production budget. Reviews have been mediocre, but the public’s sentiment is much more positive with audience survey firm Cinema Score turning in a glowing “A” grade from the first group of ticket buyers. That seal of approval could mark some salvation for “If,” which will have to keep drawing in families as schools let out for summer to justify its price tag. Paramount will face competition for younger viewers when Sony’s animated “The Garfield Movie” hits theaters next weekend though.

The Fall Guy has entered a tumultuous wave after its highly anticipated opening weekend. The action-comedy, starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, failed to match the financial expectations despite positive critical reception. This film, directed by former stuntman David Leitch, shadowed glimmering reviews and notable SXSW buzz. Vetting through terrible box office results that showed just $28.5 million domestically on its opening weekend, The Fall Guy isn’t close to earning back its lofty $130 million production budget. As of now, it’s only managed to retrieve half of what it spent. Barbenheimer’s impact last year led many to believe that The

We've known for some time that Brad Pitt was eyed to play Cable in Deadpool 2. Concept art has shown the actor transformed into the time-travelling son of Cyclops and Jean Grey, but the role ultimately went to Avengers: Endgame star Josh Brolin.
While Pitt's busy schedule was to blame for that, he still found the time to make a fun blink-and-you'd-miss-it cameo as X-Force member, The Vanisher.
Talking to Josh Horowitz about his new movie The Fall Guy, Deadpool 2 director David Leitch reflected on trying to cast Pitt as Nathan Summers and explained how that ultimately led to him dying by electrocution on screen (when the invisible mutant parachuted into power lines).
"Ryan [Reynolds] and I went to pitch Brad," Leitch says in the video below. "We had concept art, and it's sort of how the Vanisher cameo came to life. Because I think he entertained it...

Ryan Gosling’s The Fall Guy came with a lot of expectations. The film was one of the first to bring stunt people, who are some of the hardest workers in Hollywood, to the forefront. It also came with an exceptional cast of actors and was directed by one of the most predominant filmmakers and stuntmen in Hollywood, David Leitch. The same was the case for Henry Cavill’s Argylle, which was set to earn impressive figures.

While both of these movies earned a considerable amount during their box-office run, they seemed to have failed to top this year’s charts. Pretty much anyone who writes or talks about the box office (myself included) has not been quiet about the fact that the summer season is off to a rough start. It certainly didn't help that the first third of 2024 was lagging more than 20% behind 2023 in terms of overall domestic ticket sales, which put undue pressure on the summer movie season to deliver the goods. Universal Pictures kicked off summer with "The Fall Guy" and, unfortunately, the film didn't quite deliver the goods on opening weekend. However, there is reason to be tepidly optimistic as Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt's action-heavy rom-com didn't collapse in its second weekend.
While "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes" conquered the box office with a $58.5 million opening, "The Fall Guy" managed to hold relatively strong in second place with $13.7 million in its second frame. That represents a 51% drop compared to its disappointing $27.7 million opening weekend.

From co-directing the pulse-pounding John Wick and seamlessly transitioning to headlining major projects like Deadpool 2, David Leitch’s trajectory in the film is nothing short of remarkable. Playing Brad Pitt’s stunt double in a number of movies, including Fight Club, Leitch began his career in Hollywood as a stunt and fight coordinator.
Needless to say, his enlightening journey with his producer wife, Kelly McCormick, is just as enchanting as the films they make. Not so recently, when the dynamic duo spilled the beans about the casting experience of Deadpool 2, including the role that Brad Pitt almost graced, we got a rare glimpse into the ‘what-ifs’.

The Fall Guy writer Drew Pearce has addressed the controversy surrounding the joke about Johnny Depp and Amber Heard in the action comedy film. Released earlier this month, the film has been receiving backlash for featuring a joke referring to the alleged alterations between the ex-couple, highlighted during the 2022 civil defamation trial.

However, despite the criticism surrounding the joke, Pearce has argued that the dialogue underscores Hannah Waddingham’s character, Gail, in the story, claiming that she is meant to say such things as she is depicted as anything but a decent human being.

The most anticipated release in the MCU this year is ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’ It marks the franchise’s inaugural installment within the MCU, the first “R” rated movie in the MCU, and the directorial debut of Shawn Levy.
While the initial installment was helmed by Tim Miller and the sequel by David Leitch, it wasn’t unexpected to learn that the third installment would have a different director as well.
Unlike other candidates, Shawn Levy had personal reasons for accepting the opportunity to direct ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’ In a recent discussion with Empire, Levy revealed that he had missed a great opportunity years ago, one that he regretted declining all this time.
On the set of The Adam Project, Ryan asked me if I would consider doing Deadpool 3. And I remember him saying, ‘I know you’re gonna say no, but I’m really going to try and talk you into it.

Unlike other candidates, Shawn Levy had personal reasons for accepting the opportunity to direct ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’ In a recent discussion with Empire, Levy revealed that he had missed a great opportunity years ago, one that he regretted declining all this time.

MCU’s most anticipated release this year is ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’ The movie will be the first installment in the franchise set within the MCU, the first MCU “R” rated movie, and the first installment directed by Shawn Levy.
The first installment was directed by Tim Miller, and the second by David Leitch, so it wasn’t exactly a surprise when we found out that the third installment will directed by a different director as well.
But unlike all candidates for the job, Shawn Levy had personal reasons for jumping on the opportunity to direct ‘Deadpool & Wolverine. Levy recently discussed with Empire that he missed one excellent opportunity years ago, one which he regretted saying no to all these years:

[This story contains spoilers for The Fall Guy.]
After the many industry-wide challenges of the last four years, The Fall Guy screenwriter Drew Pearce just wanted to make a feel-good Friday night movie, and based on various metrics, the consensus among critics and audiences is that he and the rest of his collaborators succeeded. In ten years, the social framing around the David Leitch-directed movie won’t be that it opened to $27.7 million instead of a projected $30 million. Rather, the impression of a good action romcom will remain above all.
Pearce is no stranger to IP-driven films, as he’s officially written for Marvel Studios’ Iron Man 3, the fifth Mission: Impossible film, Rogue Nation, as well as the Fast & Furious spinoff, Hobbs and Shaw. That also doesn’t include all the cups of coffee he’s had with other franchises in an uncredited capacity. So, compared to the aforementioned IP, the assumption is that The Fall Guy,...

The next installment in the Jurassic World franchise continues to build its main cast, with Deadline reporting that Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (The Lincoln Lawyer) has signed on.
He’ll join the previously announced Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow) and Jonathan Bailey (Wicked) in the franchise’s next installment, arriving in Summer 2025.
Gareth Edwards (2014’s Godzilla, The Creator) will be directing the new installment, with original Jurassic Park writer David Koepp returning to write the screenplay.
Jurassic World returns to theaters on July 2, 2025. Stay tuned for more.
The new movie is expected to usher in a brand new Jurassic Era with Jurassic World cast members Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard not expected to return. Don’t expect the original trilogy’s Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern and Sam Neill, either. The new Jurassic World, from what we gather, plans to take the franchise in a new direction, with plot details under wraps.

Summer’s would-be blockbuster has hit a brick wall – did it simply typify everything the public hate about Hollywood or does it belie broader box office blight?
On paper, it couldn’t fail. The Fall Guy was a lock as this summer’s first – and possibly biggest – box office smash. It had it all. Action, comedy, romance. Record-breaking stunts. Two of the hottest stars around. Great reviews. And a dog.
Yet fail – or at least stumble – the The Fall Guy did. David Leitch’s bells and whistles blockbuster was tracked to make $40m at the US box office on its opening weekend. Instead, it landed just shy of $28m: a soft opening echoed overseas, where it picked up $30m across 68 other territories. Its current global total stands at $70m.

Ryan Gosling Gives The Fall Guy 2 Update(Photo Credit –YouTube)
The Fall Guy has successfully managed to keep the audience entertained with its amazing action and comedy sequences. Directed by David Leitch, the film stars Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt in the lead roles. The jokes about the movie started with the Barbenheimer collaboration as Ryan was a part of Barbie, and Emily starred in Oppenheimer. These movies clashed in theatres last year and were the most talked about.
Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt starrer is a tribute to all the stuntmen who risk their lives to perform the breathtaking and high-octane action sequences. It helps one understand what goes behind the scenes to make these action movies such a remarkable watch. It’s also a love story between Ryan and Emily’s Colt and Jody. The film has a happy ending, but will there be a sequel? Well, Ryan is giving us hope.

Not many may have expected this, but now it’s all official. Ryan Gosling’s brand new action comedy The Fall Guy has dethroned Zendaya’s heavily marketed sports drama Challengers with the former grossing almost $28 million in the domestic box office and $64 million worldwide during the opening weekend.
David Leitch’s homage to his first ever work as a stunt man was initially quite a questionable competitor, but now the movie’s incredibly good performance in theaters proves that we were wrong all along.
Starring Barbie’s Ryan Gosling and Oppenheimer’s Emily Blunt, The Fall Guy follows Colt Seavers whose entire career is jeopardized after an accident which forces him to leave his job and girlfriend Jody, a camerawoman then.
Some time later Colt suddenly finds himself on the set of his ex-girlfriend's directorial debut that may now be totally ruined after the leading actor vanished for no reason.

Stunts have been at the forefront of cinema since the beginning. Some of the earliest directors, actors, and writers were the very best stunt performers. Think Buster Keaton, Charlie Chaplin, and Harold Lloyd. Their influence can be seen across the history of cinema, from bridge jumps in Smokey and the Bandit, to lorry flips in The Dark Knight, shopping centre jumps in Police Story, to jumping off cliffs in the latest Mission Impossible. Stunts are in every action movie and ingrained in the very fabric of the art form – why it’s not yet recognised by the academy is a mystery, but David Leitch and his talented cast and crew look set on solving the mystery by putting a spotlight on those stunt performers.

David Leitch began his career in movies as a stunt performer and stunt coordinator after arriving in LA in the 1990s. From here, he was a stunt double for the likes of Brad Pitt and Matt Damon. His work on an array of top tier movies allowed him to hone his craft behind the scenes before stepping into the director’s chair. Leitch’s first foray into directing came with the action-packed film John Wick, which he co-directed alongside fellow stunt performer Chad Stahelski. The 2024 summer box office season kicked off with a whimper over the weekend. Universal's "The Fall Guy," which boasts a cast led by Ryan Gosling ("Barbie") and Emily Blunt ("Oppenheimer"), debuted to a very disappointing $28.5 million domestically. That was, essentially, on par with 2021's "Free Guy," a movie that opened under far worse circumstances as the pandemic was a much larger factor at that time. It's a grim number for a $130 million blockbuster with an A-list cast. So much so that it now ranks as the worst summer season kick-off movie in decades.
No movie from 2004 on has opened lower than $29 million on the first weekend of May. For the last 15 years, we've had a big Marvel movie in theaters to help kick things off with a bang. Ryan Gosling and Stunt Performers Shine in The Fall Guy In The Fall Guy, directed by David Leitch, stunts aren’t just part of the show; they take the lead. This film transforms stunt performers from background heroes to forefront champions. Ryan Gosling, who stars as Colt Seavers, adroitly bridges his role with real-life admiration for the stunt community. Here’s the thing – stunt performers are the unsung heroes of the industry. They put their bodies on the line to bring that extra thrill to the viewer. Without them, movies would lose some of that magic. These powerful words by Gosling

The box office debut verdict of Ryan Gosling’s The Fall Guy is out and it does not paint a great picture for the action-comedy film. While the viewers and critics have given their thumbs up to the film, the film only made $28.5 million in its domestic opening and its $140 million budget poses a big trouble. It may even impede the chances of a sequel, which Gosling revealed to be already in the books.
