Original The Good Doctor cast member Chuku Modu is once again a series regular on the ABC medical drama, playing Dr. Jared Kalu.
Modu, who originally returned midway through last season as a recurring, has been promoted to regular for the upcoming seventh season, now in production.
Modu’s surgical resident Dr. Jared Kalu was a breakout character in Season 1. He got into trouble for punching a doctor who had sexually harassed his girlfriend, resident Claire Browne (Antonia Thomas) and ultimately headed to Colorado for a surgeon job.
Kalu eventually left that job to become a concierge doctor, which is how he ended up back at San Jose’s St. Bonaventure Hospital. He ended up sticking around his old stumping grounds.
The full-time return of Modu, first reported by TVLine, follows the exit of fellow original Good Doctor cast member Will Harper who is running for Senate. Brandon Larracuente also...

The Good Doctor remains among ABC’s most watched scripted shows, particularly with delayed and cross-platform viewing. The show’s same-day average of 3.3 million viewers jumps to 9.1 million after five weeks of multiplatform viewing, and its rating among the key advertising demographic of adults 18-49 grows nearly sixfold, from 0.32 to 1.85. Exclusive: Brandon Larracuente (Freeform’s Party of Five) and Savannah Welch (HBO Max’s Titans) have been cast in major recurring roles on ABC’s The Good Doctor as the newest St. Bonaventure interns.
Their characters will be introduced at the start of the recently picked up Season 6 and, as is the case with any new class of interns, the recurring castings include options for Larracuente and Welch to become series regulars, I hear.
Larracuente will play Daniel (aka Danny). In the hospital he is known to charm doctors and nurses alike, even with his interest in somewhat controversial alternative medicine. Outside of the hospital, he is a bit of a lone wolf and an intriguing mystery to his coworkers.
Welch will play Danica (aka Danni). She is an Annapolis graduate, having completed medical school in the Navy. Danni is charismatic, ethical to a fault, and competitive both inside and outside the hospital.

In any case, the time jump served to mellow conflicts that had been building through the first part of the season, dissipating tension rather than heightening it.
