Batman: The Long Halloween had been adapted into two films that, albeit handled poorly by Warner Brothers, were still relatively well received by fans. It seems that there could be a third film to round out the trilogy, as DC has announced its follow-up to The Long Holloween, a 10-issue series by the writer of Daredevil: Yellow, Batman: Hush, and Batman: The Long Halloween, Jeph Loeb.
A still from Batman: The Long Halloween
While there are no official indications of a threequel being made to round out the Long Halloween trilogy if a film were to be made, it is most likely that the actors of the other two films will reprise their roles for the third one. This would mean that Jensen Ackles, who essays the role of Soldier Boy for Amazon’s hit R-rated superhero shoe, The Boys, can return to voice Batman.

The Long Halloween is still widely considered one of the greatest Batman stories ever told, and almost 30 years after the seminal comic book first hit shelves, Jeph Loeb will conclude the iconic crime saga with a new 10-issue series.
Announced today at the McM London convention, Batman The Long Halloween: The Last Halloween will pick up after the events of 2021's The Long Halloween Special one-shot, which was originally intended to be the start of a new story, but was put on hold following the passing of artist Tim Sale in 2022.
The new series won't feature new artwork from Sale beyond the cover for each issue. Instead, a rotating team of illustrators will provide work on the comic in tribute to the late artist, including Eduardo Risso (Flashpoint: Batman - Knight of Vengeance), Klaus Janson (The Dark Knight Returns) and Mark Chiarello (Batman: Black and White).

In recent days, we've once again started hearing rumblings about Marvel Studios' plans for Nova. The character has been ignored for far too long, with Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn happily admitting the hero never interested him.
The expectation is that when the character does finally appear in the MCU, Sam Alexander will hold the Nova mantle. There may, however, still be plans for Richard Rider to act as a mentor or partner to the teenager.
Talking to Screen Rant, Marvel Studios Head of TV, Streaming, and Animation, Brad Winderbaum seemed to strongly hint that Nova is destined to take flight on Disney+
"It's new territory for us, developing more shows than we produce," he started. "Nova certainly is exciting to us, we've got some great ideas simmering. I think there's a lot of potential there. I love Nova, also, from the comics, especially the Richard Rider era.

Marvel Television, headed by Jeph Loeb under the watchful eye of Marvel Entertainment Chairman Ike Perlmutter, closed its doors in 2019. At the time, Disney gave full control of the MCU to Kevin Feige, leading to Marvel Studios developing a slate of projects for Disney+.
While Marvel Television made a lot of missteps (we recently broke many of them down here), Marvel Studios quickly learned that developing TV shows wasn't as easy as they might have believed.
Approaching them like movies with "Head Writers" in place of showrunners (and pricey reshoots which fixed glaring issues in post-production) has forced them to go back to the drawing board. Following Daredevil: Born Again's creative overhaul, future small screen projects will be made like traditional TV shows.
They'll also be released under the returning "Marvel Television" banner, a move which shocked fans earlier this week. Talking to ComicBook.com, Marvel Studios Head of TV,...

Yesterday evening, the news broke that Disney has resurrected the "Marvel Television" banner for future live-action TV shows on Disney+. The hope is that this will allow that division to focus on streaming, while Marvel Studios concentrates on the movies.
It's all part of a plan to get back to quality over quantity after a rocky few years. However, there's a big difference between this Marvel Television and the one which launched in 2010 and was ultimately shuttered in 2019 when Kevin Feige took charge.
The news got us thinking about the original Marvel Television's stint and the many mistakes made under the man in charge, Jeph Loeb. In this feature, we take a look back at their biggest blunders and what Marvel Studios can learn from them.

Marvel Television was originally a separate entity from Marvel Studios, spearheaded by Jeph Loeb under the watchful eye of former Marvel Entertainment Chairman Isaac Perlmutter.
Before being shut down in 2019 (when Disney handed full control of all things Marvel to Kevin Feige), Marvel Television produced the likes of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Netflix's Defenders slate, and even the likes of Cloak & Dagger, The Runaways, and M.O.D.O.K.
The vast majority of characters were off-limits to Marvel Television, with Marvel Studios' desires prioritised by Disney. For Feige, Loeb's outfit was an annoyance, particularly as much of what they produced - Inhumans, for example - damaged the MCU brand.
Marvel Studios has since discovered that producing TV shows isn't as easy as it looks. Last year, the decision was made to creatively overhaul Daredevil: Born Again and the studio's small screen output as a whole, with "Head Writers" finally replaced with proper showrunners.

While shows like WandaVision and Loki seem to be all anyone can think of when someone says “Marvel TV,” let’s not forget where it all began. Marvel Television was created all the way back in 2010 and the first project that was released through it was Agents of Shield in which actress Ming-Na Wen played the role of Melinda May.
ABC’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
And now, Ming-Na Wen has finally spoken up about the division between the shows created for traditional television and those developed for streaming platforms. The actress believes that her show, Agents of Shield, deserves an accolade or acknowledgment for launching Marvel Studios into the television space.

Unlike their golden run on the big screen till phase 3, Marvel didn’t quite replicate its huge success on the small screen, with most of the Disney Plus MCU shows earning less-than-stellar reception. While fans have complained about MCU’s recent catalog being bloated following the abundance of TV shows, Marvel has also abandoned an overwhelming number of TV shows over the years.
This involves several renowned superheroes, including a Captain Britain show, which was greenlit long before the rise of Disney Plus and MCU TV shows.

Back in 2016, rumors regarding a Captain Britain show being in the early stages of development emerged. Poster artist Clara McAvoy claimed she was being paid to do a promo poster for it, assuring fans an official announcement might be heading our way in early 2017 or late 2016. Unfortunately, it never happened, leading many to speculate Marvel might have put the kibosh on it.

“When I was a kid, there was a gangster, real old school type,” recalls Oswald Cobblepot at the start of the trailer for The Penguin. Anyone who has seen a gangster flick before recognizes that kind of talk. Henry Hill, Tony Soprano, Michael Corleone — wiseguys love to wax poetic about the past.
It’s no secret that the classic Batman villain was a highlight of 2021’s The Batman, with director Matt Reeves taking a more grounded approach to the bird-themed character that removed the bright colors and gimmicks. The Penguin’s storyline in the movie focused on his rise through the mob and his spinoff series will continue that tale of ascendance, as Cobblepot works to fill the void in the Gotham underworld left in the wake of Carmine Falcone’s death.
But the Penguin isn’t the only mobster from the comics who will appear or be referenced on this gangster show.

Madame Web filmmaker Sj Clarkson is both persistent and prolific. The British director has helmed at least 109 episodes of television from 2001 until now. She cut her teeth to the tune of 37 episodes on a British medical soap known as Doctors, but that experience eventually paved the way for the likes of Dexter, Orange Is the New Black and Succession. (Her first episode of Dexter ended with John Lithgow’s iconic line of, “Hello, Dexter Morgan.”)
In recent years, Clarkson’s efforts to mount projects on a massive scale have tested her patience, as her Naomi Watts-led Game of Thrones prequel pilot, Bloodmoon, didn’t go, nor did her version of Star Trek 4 in 2018. Nevertheless, Clarkson’s feature directorial debut, Madame Web, is now arriving in theaters on Feb. 14, and she never imagined that her first film would take place in a universe that’s related to Spider-Man.

Intro: If there’s one word that perfectly sums up the bombastic nature of 80s action cinema, it has to be ‘excess’. Action behemoths, big hair, muscles, fantastical landscapes, and arm-wrestling matches that could be won by the simple flip of your favourite cap. It was an amazing decade for movies, and for action movie icons. Looking back on the early career of one of the era’s most iconic megastars, Arnold Schwarzenegger, there’s one thing that jumps out like doomed cannon-fodder from one of his movies; they were never dull. After having successfully conquered the world of bodybuilding, and subsequently the glitz and glamour of Hollywood, with career defining roles in Conan the Barbarian, Conan the Destroyer, The Terminator and Red Sonja, it’s clear that going bigger would be better for his career. Those movies highlighted how Arnie’s impressive physique could be utilised for maximum effect,...

The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson as the Dark Knight, is one of the most anticipated movies of 2023. The film, directed by Matt Reeves, will introduce a new version of Gotham City and its rogues gallery, featuring villains like Riddler, Penguin, and Catwoman. But what about the sequel?
According to some sources, The Batman 2, which is set to be released on October 3, 20251, will feature another iconic Batman foe: Hush. Hush is the childhood best friend of Bruce Wayne, who grew up to become a brilliant and wealthy neurosurgeon named Thomas Elliot. However, Elliot harbors a deep resentment and hatred for Wayne, whom he blames for saving his mother’s life after he tried to kill his parents in a car crash.

Dceu will be officially over by the end of this year, and after that, a whole era awaits for DC and its live-action content. Apart from the Elseworlds projects, such as ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ and ‘The Batman — Part II,’ the audience also has a new Superman movie to look forward to. We don’t know if James Gunn’s ‘Superman: Legacy’ will be good or if it’s going to be commercially successful, but one thing is certain: the success (or failure) of this movie will dictate the direction of DC movies for at least the next ten years.

The Caped Crusader. The Dark Knight. The World’s Greatest Detective. The Bat. He is vengeance. He is the night. He is, of course, Bruce Wayne – aka Batman. And for 84 years and counting, ever since his introduction in Detective Comics #27 on 30 March 1939, Bill Finger and Bob Kane’s Guardian of Gotham City continues to dominate popular culture.
A superhero with no actual superpowers (except for fat stacks of Benjamins), Bats is – in essence – just a man trying to turn his pain into something positive; a vigilante in a cowl and cape who’s capable of evolving with the times to be whatever kind of hero the moment asks for. It’s no wonder such a dynamic array of filmmakers – from Leslie H. Martinson to Tim Burton among many, many others – have been inspired to send up the Bat-signal on the big screen in live-action and animation over the years.

Whether it’s the questionable FX, the lead star’s very controversial dalliances, or just audiences being burned one too many times by Comic Book Films, there’s one movie that is all anyone can talk about. And look, I get it. There was a lot of craziness that went on during this production and had more people come and go due to creative differences than any movie we’ve covered on the show.
Warning you guys and gals right now, if you haven’t seen The Flash, you’re going to want to turn back now, because this is where things get Super spoilery.
Warner Brothers tried getting a Flash movie off the ground in the late 80’s with comic writer Jeph Loeb being brought in to write the screenplay. Unfortunately nothing ever came of the property until 2004 when David S Goyer signed on to write, direct and produce a new Flash.

Back when Marvel was first dipping its toes into the waters of television with shows like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., then-Marvel TV boss Jeph Loeb liked to use the phrase “It’s all connected” as a selling point. The idea was not just that the various Marvel series — whether Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Carter on ABC, or, say, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage on Netflix — would clearly take place in the same fictional world as one another, but they would also be linked to the wildly popular Marvel Cinematic Universe on the big screen.

Before the 2020s, film archivists' worst nightmares were digital degradation or the simple loss of film reels. Now, streaming services have created a new one for them: the purging of original movies and series without a physical release.
HBO Max has been a leading culprit, but Disney+ isn't blameless either. This is, after all, the same company that used to place its movies in the "Disney Vault" during the reign of physical media. It had previously been confirmed that the service would be removing 50 titles on May 26, 2023, including "Willow," "Big Shot," and "Y: The Last Man." However, it's been discovered that another title was unexpectedly included in the purge: "Marvel's Runaways," which is now no longer listed on Hulu or Disney+ (in the U.S. or internationally).

Long before Disney+ existed with its slate of Marvel Cinematic Universe TV shows, and even before Netflix released theirs, there were only two: “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” and “Agent Carter.” One had a seven-season run on ABC where it grew a devoted following, while the other got only two seasons on the same network. But, according to the man who ran ABC at the time, the latter would definitely go further if it were made today.
“Agent Carter” followed Agent Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell), who we first met in “Captain America: The First Avenger,” in the time immediately following Cap’s presumed death. During this time, she works at the Strategic Scientific Reserve (Ssr), but also secretly works alongside Howard Stark (Dominic Cooper) and his butler Edwin Jarvis, developing the friendship that would lead them to create S.H.I.E.L.D.
In its first season, the show put up mediocre numbers for ABC, but...

Jon Bernthal is returning to his most punishing role. The actor will reprise Frank Castle, aka antihero the Punisher, in Marvel Studios’ Daredevil: Born Again for Disney+, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.
Bernthal joins Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio in the series, which begins shooting in New York this month. In a departure from other Marvel series, which come in at six or nine episodes per season, Born Again is planned as a whopping 18-episode epic. Writers and executive producers Matt Corman and Chris Ord are behind the show, which is expected to bow in the spring of 2024.
Marvel could not be reached for comment.
Born Again takes its title from a landmark Daredevil storyline published in 1986, written by Frank Miller and drawn by David Mazzuchelli. The show is deviating from that plot, although by how much is unclear. The Punisher, for example, made no appearance in the comic story.

“Holy God! Whattya showing me here?”
When Colin Farrell‘s Oz Cobblepot asked that question of Robert Pattinson’s Caped Crusader and Jeffery Combs’s Lieutenant Gordon in The Batman, he was reacting to a set of grisly pictures. The first set photos from The Batman spin-off The Penguin may not be nearly as disgusting, but they’re sure to provoke a strong reaction.
The HBO series, which takes place after Matt Reeves’ film, follows Cobblepot’s continuing evolution from the not-entirely respected underboss and Iceberg Lounge proprietor seen in The Batman to something closer to the criminal mastermind we know from the comics. Along the way, the series will further develop the Gotham underworld hinted at in The Batman, adding Clancy Brown as Salvatore Maroni and Cristin Milioti as Sofia Falcone.
The first images of Farrell shooting the series show him once again unrecognizable in makeup from Academy Award-nominated artist Mike Marino.

Hulu and Marvel’s ambitious, four-show animated series slate is down to one show — which will no longer have “Marvel” in its title.
The Disney-run streamer has renewed Hit-Monkey for a second season. The pickup comes more than a year after it debuted on Hulu in November 2021, and more than eight months after the only other series of the four to make it to air — Modok — was canceled after a single season.
The four series greenlit in 2019 came from the now defunct Marvel Television, headed by Jeph Loeb. They were positioned as an animated counterpart to the four-show Marvel TV lineup at Netflix (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist), complete with a culminating miniseries to be called The Offenders (playing off The Defenders team-up for the Netflix shows).
Marvel TV, however, was folded into Kevin Feige’s Marvel Studios late in 2019, and Loeb departed. After that, two of...

Robert Pattinson is returning as the cape crusader in a sequel from Matt Reeves, who helmed his first outing as the Batman. The film concluded with a rather neat ending — Batman successfully protected the city of Gotham from the Riddler (Paul Dano) and is finally regarded as the city's savior. With Riddler in Arkham Asylum, the ending leaves much room for Reeves to incorporate various Batman villains from the comics.
One of the final scenes of the film already teased Barry Keoghan's Joker and the character's presence at Arkham, to fans' surprise. While Keoghan appears for mere moments at the end of "The Batman," during which he is seen maniacally laughing with The Riddler, there's a deleted scene where he talks with Batman himself. The existing filmed scenes could very well lead the way to the second chapter in the caped crusader's early years — and there's a comic book storyline that illustrates it all.

Happy New Year, Daily Dead readers! Today, I'm kicking off our annual "Favorites" series with my 2022 picks and you'll see favorites from other Daily Dead team members throughout the week. On this week's episode of Corpse Club, we'll also be discussing 2022 favorites and what we're looking forward to in the new year. Our favorites are a little different from a traditional "Best Of" list and our lists can include anything from movies and streaming shows to collectibles and events. In short, we’re sharing with you a list of our favorite horror experiences from 2022.
This year was interesting for me in that I truly felt I hit that tipping point where more was being released than I could possibly keep up on. If you stick to just watching movies, it's not impossible to check out every horror release, but when you add TV series, video games, and graphic novels, it becomes challenging.

This post contains spoilers for "The Batman."
While Matt Reeves' "The Batman" was pretty much a triumph on the whole, it's not hard to deny that Colin Firth's Penguin was a decisive highlight. The big wigs at Warner Bros. must have thought so too, as the character will soon be heading up his very own series on HBO Max. The spin-off will apparently take place just a week after the events of "The Batman," which ended with the death of mafia don Carmine Falcone. "The Penguin" will likely address the power vacuum that Falcone's death leaves behind in Gotham, and follow Oswald Cobblepot's rise through the ranks of Gotham's underworld in order to take that power for himself.
Farrell himself has cited the HBO prison drama "Oz" as a point of inspiration for "The Penguin." That series followed the shifting tides in a fictional men's prison — fittingly named the...

Cristin Milioti is heading to Gotham City. The “How I Met Your Mother” and “Palm Springs” star has joined the cast of HBO Max’s “The Penguin” series.
Milioti is the first new cast member to join Colin Farrell, who plays the DC Comics villain, in the upcoming series, which is currently under a working title. Farrell first appeared as the character in Matt Reeves’ “The Batman” film, which saw the star don heavy prosthetics to portray the right-hand man of mob boss Carmine Falcone (John Turturro). Milioti will play Sofia Falcone, the daughter of Carmine, who was first created by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale for their 1997 comic book miniseries “The Long Halloween.” Previously, the character was played by Crystal Reed on the Fox series “Gotham.”

Batman: The Long Halloween has been embraced as a superb Batman tale, a solid mystery story, and a superlative effort from Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale. It has remained in print since its arrival in 1996-97. Warner Animation tackled this in 2021, releasing it in two parts, which I liked when I reviewed them here and here.
The parts have now been sewn together into a far more satisfying single volume, upgraded to 4k Ultra HD, which incrementally enhances the overall enjoyment.
The 13-part story is set early in Batman’s career, with Loeb plumbing the Gotham underworld as established by Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli in Batman: Year One. Interfering in Carmine “The Roman” Falcone’s (Titus Welliver) gang operations is the arrival of the Holiday Killer. Tracking him with little effect over the course of a year are Batman (Jensen Ackles) and his grudging allies Captain James Gordon...

20th Century Fox bought the screenplay to 1985's "Commando" from "Teen Wolf" screenwriters Jeph Loeb and Matthew Weisman with the plan to slot Arnold Schwarzenegger into the lead role. Even after the big success of James Cameron's "The Terminator" a year earlier, Schwarzenegger saw "Commando" as a big deal. He explained why in Empire's oral history:
"'Commando' was a big step forward for me. I had only done 'Conan' and 'Terminator,' but now I got to play a gentle, loving father. He is also a fighting machine that will not stop until his objective is complete."
In the film, he plays John Matrix, a retired U.S. Army Colonel who must rescue his daughter (Alyssa Milano) after she's kidnapped by a group of mercenaries. The film allowed Schwarzenegger to showcase his wits and humor and served as the model for his macho, quippy one-liner films that followed.

Few movies have been both as eagerly anticipated and as deeply troubled as "The Flash." Despite being one of DC's most popular superheroes, bringing the Scarlet Speedster to the big screen for a solo adventure has proven to be a major challenge -- and that's saying the very least of it. The attempts date way back to the '80s, when superstar comic book writer Jeph Loeb was developing a script for a film that would have focused on the character. Yet, at every turn, something has gone wrong and prevented an adaptation from seeing the light of day.

Last week we lost Tim Sale, at this time my condolences are with his family and friends… He has pulled his seat up to the great drawing board in the sky much too soon.
On a personal level, the work of Tim Sale greatly influenced my early days of collecting comics. Firstly I remember in the build-up to the release of the first X-Men film I was watching a comic book hour on QVC. One book that kept coming up in the show was Batman: The Long Halloween. The next day I went to a book shop in the local shopping centre, not knowing the best places to buy comics. Also not knowing the prices of comics I found The Long Halloween to be out of my price range. It would be a few years before I finally read a copy from my local library and a few more years...

“M.O.D.O.K,” the gleefully bizarre Marvel animated series that debuted on Hulu last May, won’t be returning for a sophomore season, TheWrap has learned.
While this might seem like a surprise to some that the show is coming to a close after only 10 episodes, it was more or less a foregone conclusion. “M.O.D.O.K” was ordered as part of a suite of animated shows, by former Marvel Television executive Jeph Loeb. These shows, which also included “Hit Monkey,” “Howard the Duck” and “Tigra and Dazzler,” were meant to eventually come together for a miniseries called “The Offenders.” (This echoed the strategy Loeb employed with the Netflix series like “Daredevil” and “Jessica Jones.” Those combined for a miniseries called “The Defenders.”)
