"Our priority is protecting the men and women who serve this country!" The Avenue has debuted another red band official trailer for Land of Bad, landing in theaters nationwide in one week. It's the latest movie from talented filmmaker Will Eubank, of The Signal, Underwater, and Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin. "When sh*t goes down in the jungle, there's one team for the job." When a Delta Force team is ambushed in enemy territory, a rookie officer played by the other brother Liam Hemsworth refuses to abandon them. Their only hope lies with an Air Force drone pilot as the eyes in the sky during a brutal 48-hour battle for survival in the jungle. Russell Crowe co-stars as the drone pilot, with a cast including Luke Hemsworth, Ricky Whittle, Milo Ventimiglia, Daniel MacPherson, Gunner Wright, and Lincoln Lewis. This actually looks like it has some kick ass action scenes in it,...

Russell Crowe is telling the behind-the-scenes story about his new film.
The actor took over directing duties for “Poker Face” under the condition that he could do “whatever the f**k I want.”
“It tested my f***ing patience like you wouldn’t believe but art is never made in a perfect environment,” the 58-year-old told The Courier Mail.
Gary Fleder was originally slated to direct the film with a script by Stephen M. Coates, but has since been replaced by the actor.

When you hear the phrase “poker face,” you might get a certain pop song stuck in your head, or you might conjure up an image of stoicism, unreadability — the kind of expression that helps a gambler take home the pot.
Russell Crowe is adept at such masculine impassiveness. Even when bellowing about revenge as Javert in “Les Misérables” or coming undone in “A Beautiful Mind,” he has a solidness to him. Unfortunately, while solidity can be beneficial — as in dependable, trusty — it can also be boring. Such is the downfall of “Poker Face,” a new feature written and directed by, and starring, Crowe.
Crowe’s first screenplay, from a story by Stephen M. Coates, follows Jake Foley (Crowe), an Aussie rogue who, along with his best friend Andrew (played by RZA), leveraged his teenage poker skills into the first online poker enterprise. As a result, Jake is insanely wealthy. After...

One of Russell Crowe’s greatest strengths as a movie star is his ability to make it look easy. When he’s at his best, it often looks like he’s barely trying. Whether it be heroic vengeance (Gladiator), bold leadership (Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World), unhinged––ahem––madness (Unhinged), or anything in between, he appears incredibly comfortable. When Crowe is in the director’s chair, he seems to be trying a bit too hard. At least so far. Poker Face––marking his first screenplay credit and second directorial feature following The Water Diviner in 2015––is a lot of things at once.
Crowe plays Jake Foley, a billionaire who got rich after he developed tech for early online poker that then got repurposed for military use. A sepia-toned flashback leads into an extended shamanic drug trip that seems to clarify a few moral quandaries for Jake,...

Poker Face is a movie co-written, directed and starring Russell Crowe that also counts with starring roles played by Liam Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky.
A movie that plays many cards, but never centers itself on the actual game.
Premise
Jake Foley is a 57 year-old tech tycoon who has a weakness for poker. He decides to reunite his friends from yonder year for a high-stakes game of poker. The gathering will be less enjoyable than anticipated, as old secrets emerge, rivalries surface, and thieves intrude in the midst of the soirée.
Poker Face (2022) Official Trailer Movie Review
A thriller that takes its time (a long time) to show itself and maneuver as a thriller, and that once it reaches that point it goes on thriller overdrive, betraying the initial tempo. As you know, there are no written rules in this industry, and one might succeed if one innovates enough, or if...

The title “Poker Face” suggests a droll, methodical cunning that unfortunately proves elusive everywhere else in Russell Crowe’s sophomore effort as writer-director. As handsomely produced as his first, 2014’s historical drama “The Water Diviner,” it offers an even more overstuffed narrative whose myriad elements barely have time to register before we arrive at a nearly 10-minute end credits crawl. This Australia-shot mix of intrigue, soap opera, thriller and tearjerker never quite gels, despite enough surface gloss and cast expertise to hold attention. Screen Media is releasing theatrically to a couple dozen U.S. screens this week and to digital formats on Nov. 22, with other territories following.
A prologue finds our protagonists as teenage besties in what looks like the late 1970s: five rural Aussie lads already obsessed with poker. After a swim in an idyllic quarry, they’re challenged to a game by a local bully, who naturally is enraged by his loss.

“I think sci-fi, for us, is a really good fit,” designer Kurt Swanson declares about the beauty of designing for science fiction, where artists working behind the scenes on the huge task of building the look and feel of a show can push the envelope as far as the story will take them. “We came from fashion before we started doing movies, but sci-fi and fantasy, those worlds, there’s really no rules. It’s really exciting for us when there’s no rules, to dive right in and look at each of these worlds and figure out what is this world built on, what are their resources, all of that kind of stuff is our springboard for designing something like this,” Swanson explains.

Cinemax has renewed long-running action-packed drama Strike Back for a seventh and final season.
Strike Back has just received orders for its final mission.
While the currently-running sixth season of Strike Back only just launched on January 25, Cinemax wasted little time issuing a preemptive renewal for a seventh season of the firearms-and-espionage action thriller. However, the swift greenlight comes with the caveat that Season 7 will mark the end of the series.
The series, which follows the intense exploits of a deadly, internationally-operating government-disavowed British special ops team, called Section 20, has seen its gun-toting team save the world from terrorist cells and even nuclear global catastrophe. However, the team is set to tackle one last global threat before riding off into the proverbial Cinemax sunset.
As Kary Antholis, president, HBO Miniseries and Cinemax Programming, states of the move:

Cinemax has renewed “Strike Back” for a seventh and final season. The renewal news comes ahead of the Season 6 finale, which airs on March 29.
Though the next season will be Cinemax’s seventh, it will be co-producer Sky’s eighth — Cinemax began running the series with the UK media giant’s second season. In 2013, Cinemax aired Sky’s first season as a prequel of sorts, aptly titled “Strike Back: Origins.”
“Strike Back” follows the explosive escapades of Section 20, an elite, multinational, covert special ops team, as it spans the globe fighting a vast web of interconnected criminal and terrorist activity. Season 6 stars Warren Brown, Daniel MacPherson, Alin Sumarwata, Jamie Bamber, Yasemin Kay Allen and Varada Sethu.

Cinemax has confirmed the fate of high-octane drama, Strike Back, and the news is good and bad.
The cabler has renewed the drama series for a seventh and final season, slated to air in 2020.
Strike Back Season 6 is currently airing, so this is an early renewal for one last drama-filled season.
As Cinemax's first drama series, it makes sense that the cabler would want it to conclude on the right terms.

There's no word yet on whether the show could return again down the line, but given that it once ended in 2015 before being revived over a year later, we shouldn't rule it out.
Strike Back has never been a heavy hitter in the ratings with the current season averaging 0.1 million viewers and a 0.02 rating in the demo.

Exclusive: Cinemax’s signature original series, Strike Back, has been picked up for a seventh season, which will be the action drama’s last. This is an early renewal for the series, which is currently airing its sixth season and slated to wrap its run March 29.
Strike Back has been a legacy series for Cinemax. It was the network’s first primetime drama series, which launched Cinemax’s foray into original programming eight years ago. After a short break following Season 4, Strike Back was summoned back to lead Cinemax’s rebrand as a destination for fun, mostly action-packed, original programming. The rebooted actioner kicked off Cinemax’s relaunch last February with a fifth season that moved away from the buddy format of the original series to a diverse ensemble in the vein of the Fast & the Furious franchise.

Tess Haubrich in ‘Bad Mothers’.
Tess Haubrich jumped at the chance to play a key role in Bad Mothers at very short notice after Jessica Marais was forced to withdraw for health reasons – not least because she had never worked with female directors.
Sian Davies, Catriona McKenzie and Geoff Bennett directed the Nine Network’s ensemble comedy-drama from Jungle Entertainment and Filthy Productions.
“It’s quite shocking that I had never worked on shows with female directors, except on short films,” says Haubrich, whose credits include Pine Gap, Wolf Creek 2, Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant, the Jackie Chan starrer Bleeding Steel and the Turner-Roache brothers Nekrotronic.
The Sydney-based actress was told one Friday night that she had won the role of Sarah in Bad Mothers and on the following Monday morning was in Melbourne for the start of two weeks pre-production.

The cast of ‘Bad Mothers’
As parents, Gavin Strawhan and Rachel Lang agreed that being a mother can be an impossible job and that no matter how hard they try, women will sometimes feel they are bad mothers.
The Auckland-based founders of Filthy Productions came up with the concept of a comedy-drama about five mums whose kids go to the same school, overlaid with a murder mystery, and pitched it to the Nine Network.
Execs at Nine suggested Strawhan and Lang find an Australian partner, which turned out to be Jungle Entertainment. The result is Bad Mothers, which launches on Nine at 9 pm on February 18 and across the ditch on Tvnz on February 20.
The ensemble show stars Tess Haubrich as Sarah, whose perfect life as a Gp, wife and mother is shattered when she discovers her husband Anton (Daniel MacPherson) is having an affair. Even worse, her best friend is...

We get inside the mind of Strike Back: Revolution's Wyatt in this interview with actor Daniel MacPherson.
Strike Back returns to Cinemax for its seventh season, with Strike Back: Revolution featuring the continuing misadventures of Section 20. Having gone through hell in the previous season, Revolution opens with suspended teammates Gracie (Alin Sumarwata), Mac (Warren Brown) and Wyatt (Daniel MacPherson) brought back into the action when a Russian nuclear device goes missing. Needless to say, there will be no shortage of shootouts, fistfights and probably some gratuitous nudity too.
It took MacPherson’s Wyatt a little while to adjust to working with a team last year, but the actor’s chemistry with his castmates helped make for a smooth transition between the new team and previous lead characters Scott (Sullivan Stapleton) and Stonebridge (Philip Winchester). We spoke to the star about the latest season, how the character of...

Jamie Bamber joins the cast of Strike Back and fills us in on his damaged new character.
Section 20 is back once again for Strike Back: Revolution, which can only mean more gunfights, car chases, one-liners and needless property destruction. It’s a formula that’s worked well throughout the show's run, so there’s no reason to stop now.
This season (billed as Strike Back season 6 in the U.S. and season 7 in the U.K.), which is now airing on Cinemax, opens with Mac (Warren Brown), Wyatt (Daniel MacPherson) and Gracie (Alin Sumarwata) being reactivated to chase down a stolen nuclear warhead. This season will also dig a little deeper into the personal lives of the team.

William McInnes and Sigrid Thornton in the ABC’s ‘SeaChange’ (Photo: ABC).
Eighteen years since SeaChange ended its 39-episodes run on the ABC, Sigrid Thornton and John Howard will be back on screen in 2019 in a contemporary version of the show created by Andrew Knight and Deborah Cox.
The Nine Network has commissioned eight one hour episodes as a co-production between ITV Studios Australia and Every Cloud Productions. Shooting starts next year with Every Cloud’s Cox and Fiona Eagger as executive producers alongside Thornton and ITV’s David Mott. ITV owns the format to the show which was produced by Artist Services for the ABC.
Twenty years on, Laura Gibson (Thornton) returns to the beachside paradise of Pearl Bay and this time it seems Pearl Bay needs Laura just as much as she needs it. Howard reprises his role as Bob Jelly, who was the mayor in the original.
