- In 1987 he graduated with a B.S. in Marine Transportation and an officers appointment in the U.S. Maritime Service, and the U.S. Naval Reserve.
- In 1983, he received a congressional appointment to the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, New York.
- Did not appear in another theatrical motion picture after Pete's Dragon (1977), although his voice was used for the animated film "The Small One".
