Martin completed a Diploma Design Course at the National Institute of
Dramatic Art, where she met her husband film director Baz Luhrmann in 1988.
Won Broadway's 2003 Tony Award as Best Scenic Designer for "La Boheme."
In that same year and for the same production, she was also nominated
as Best Costume Designer along with collaborator Angus Strathie.
Gave birth to a baby girl, Lillian Amanda Luhrmann. Lilly is the first
child of Baz and Catherine. (October 10, 2003).
Son, William Alexander Luhrmann, was born June 8th, 2005
She and Angus Strathie were awarded the 2004 Back Stage Garland Award for Outstanding Costume Design for "Baz Luhrman's production of Puccini's Opera, 'La Boheme,'" at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles, California.
She was awarded the Australian Centenary Medal in the 2001 Queen's New Years Honours List for her services to Australian society and Australian film production.
She was awarded the 2004 Los Angeles Stage Alliance Ovation Award for Set Design (Large Theatre) for Baz Luhrman's production of Puccini's opera, "La Boheme," at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles, California.
