In the year plus since The Last of Us became a Max hit series with Season 1 debuting on the streamer January 15, 2023, the second season has gone full steam ahead in production after the dual Hollywood strike. Exciting developments such as an expanding cast and projected release date were given even before Warner Bros. Discovery’s Upfront presentation in May, where a first look was provided.
The cast of Season 1, which was shot in Calgary, Alberta, included Gabriel Luna as Tommy, Anna Torv as Tess, Nico Parker as Sarah, Murray Bartlett as Frank, Nick Offerman as Bill, Melanie Lynskey as Kathleen, Storm Reid as Riley, Merle Dandridge as Marlene, Jeffrey Pierce as Perry, Lamar Johnson as Henry, Keivonn Woodard as Sam, Graham Greene as Marlon, Elaine Miles as Florence, Ashley Johnson as Anna, and Troy Baker as James.

You can't do better than Jeffrey Wright, so why even try? The actor is coming off his first-ever Oscar nod for "American Fiction," which is frankly shocking given the pedigree of his previous work. We're talking about the man who starred in Mike Nichols' "Angels in America" miniseries (reprising the role he played in the original Pulitzer Prize-winning play's Broadway debut), spent 15 years playing Felix Leiter, the coolest cat in the Daniel Craig James Bond movies, and was the Mvp of Matt Reeves' "The Batman" as Jim Gordon. He was also everyone's favorite human-turned-host, Bernard Lowe, across all four seasons of "Westworld" and has recently become a member of Wes Anderson's acting troupe.
Now, HBO and "The Last of Us" writers/executive producers Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann have, very wisely, elected to bring Wright back in the role that he previously tackled via voice-acting and motion-capture in 2020's...

Jeffrey Wright is returning to HBO — and to the world of The Last of Us.
The Emmy winner and recent Oscar nominee has joined the cast for season two of The Last of Us, based on the best-selling video game franchise. Wright will have a recurring role as Isaac, the quietly powerful leader of a large militia group. It’s familiar territory for Wright, who provided the voice for Isaac in The Last of Us Part II game.
Wright is one of a number of new additions to the cast for season two, which is in production and slated for a 2025 premiere. The coming season will also feature Kaitlyn Dever, Isabela Merced, Young Mazino, Ariela Barer, Tati Gabrielle, Spencer Lord and Danny Ramirez, and Catherine O’Hara will be a guest star.
Leads Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey will return, along with fellow season one actors Gabriel Luna and Rutina Wesley.

The Oscar-nominated “American Fiction” actor, who previously won an Emmy for “Westworld,” is set to play Isaac in the video game adaptation series. We’ve known for a while that another ‘weird’ Pirates Of The Caribbean movie is coming, and Margot Robbie is still involved too.
Here’s an update on a story that we’ve been reporting on now for a good few years. It’s zigged and zagged a few times since then, but according to series producer, Jerry Bruckheimer, a Pirate Of The Caribbean film starring Margot Robbie in a female-centric movie is still happening.
We first heard about this project all the way back in 2020. Apparently, Disney had plans to make two very different Pirates Of The Caribbean movies to continue the popular swashbuckling series that already boasts six films. The plans back in 2020 were to develop a female-led version which would be headlined by Margot Robbie alongside another ‘weird’ film with an all-new cast. The latter version was based on a script penned by Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin and Ted Elliott,...

There have been hot and cold reports about the future of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise over the past few years. Some had a reboot happening with an entirely new cast, others a female-centric film with Margot Robbie. Now, Jerry Bruckheimer is setting the record straight.
“It’s two different movies,” Bruckheimer says. The reboot has Jeff Nathanson doing the script with the Robbie-centric film being written by Christina Hodson, according to Entertainment Weekly, which caught up with the producer. “We hope to get ’em both made, and I think Disney agrees they really want to make the Margot one, too.”
The Last of Us creator Craig Mazin worked on a story for the reboot with original screenwriter Ted Elliot. Mazin told the L.A. Times that their script was very weird and that Disney seemed to like it. But the project stalled because of the strikes last year.

“Pirates of the Caribbean” producer Jerry Bruckheimer has provided more clarity on the current state of the Disney adventure franchise. He already teased in March that a total reboot was going to be the first “Pirates” movie out of the gate in the future because “it’s easier to put together because you don’t have to wait for certain actors.” This reboot is now confirmed to have writer Jeff Nathanson attached. Bruckheimer announced the news in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
Nathanson also wrote the screenplay for the last “Pirates” movie, 2017’s “Dead Men Tell No Tales,” which was directed by Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg. Rønning and Nathanson, as well as Bruckheimer, have reunited on the new Disney biographical drama “Young Woman and the Sea.”

The Last of Us created by Craig Mazin, is one of the main HBO projects right now. Despite high ratings for the first season, it's too early to tell if The Last of Us will live up to expectations – the main action will unfold in the second season, which will be released in 2025.
Viewers unfamiliar with the source material will likely remember John Hillcoat's The Road and Alfonso Cuarón's Children of Men, two of the main sources of inspiration for the video game's creators. However, the series not only resembles post-apocalyptic road movies, but also Chernobyl, Craig Mazin's previous project.
It's easy to draw parallels between the opening scene of The Last of Us, in which a scientist explains that humanity is facing the threat of a cordyceps fungus pandemic due to possible global warming, and the miniseries, in which a problem-ignoring bureaucratic system tries to correct its own mistakes.

The Last Of Us Season 2 is in the works. Here’s all the juicy details we know about it so far, including what to expect from the upcoming season when it premieres.
The Last Of Us Season 1 Was A Huge Hit
Post-apocalyptic shows can often be a hit or miss with audiences. Particularly in the last ten to twenty years, the genre has been done and overdone. Franchises like The Walking Dead come to mind. While it started out strong, between the original and all of the spinoffs, watchers tend to have viewing fatigue.
That was not the case with the HBO Max adaptation of The Last Of Us. Season 1 on the platform was a huge hit. Actor Nick Offerman even took home his first Emmy award for his gripping performance in Season 1, Episode 3, Long, Long Time.

As the Fireflies' famous catchphrase goes: "When you're lost in the darkness, look for the light." And as our not-so-famous catchphrase goes: "When you're waiting patiently for The Last Of Us Season 2, look for the first images of Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey's return as Joel and Ellie." Good news – that light has arrived, people. During an Upfront presentation yesterday, Warner Bros. Discovery gave fans their first look at Season 2 of Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin's critically acclaimed game adaptation — and we're already feeling all the feels. You can see the Joel pic above – and here's the Ellie shot:
Now, these pictures don't tell us an awful lot about what's coming in Season 2, but that doesn't make them any less fascinating to look at. Joel's grown-out locks. Ellie's winter hat. His new jacket. Her new shotgun (who — or what — is it aimed at?). Both of them look a bit older now,...

Thanks to GameFragger.com, we have the first images of Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie from the upcoming second season of HBO's The Last of Us.
Shared by Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO, HBO and Max Content, during the Warner Bros. Discovery Upfront presentation, both characters look very much in line with their respective video game counterparts, though there are already more complaints on social media about Ramsey looking too young for the role.
She is now 20, a year older than Ellie was in The Last of Us Part II. The video game version looked quite a bit older than 19 when players were placed in her shoes, and we're sure such a youthful-looking Ellie will only make what's to come in season 2 more harrowing.

The first look at Season 2 of “The Last of Us” was unveiled on Wednesday featuring stars Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey. HBO and Max chief Casey Bloys debuted the images during the Warner Bros. Discovery Upfront presentation in New York City.
The show chronicles the story of Joel (Pascal) and Ellie (Ramsey) as they navigate a world overrun with zombies infected with a parasitic fungus — not to mention the ruthless vigilantes, mercenaries and cannibals just as desperate to survive. Just as the first season of “The Last of Us” was adapted from the acclaimed 2013 video game of the same title, Season 2 of the series is expected to follow the events of its 2020 sequel, “The Last of Us Part II,” which deals with the fallout from Joel’s actions in the season 1 finale.

Bella Ramsey did an exceptional job with their work in the first season of the live-action adaptation of The Last of Us on HBO. However, the performer was greeted with a mixed reception due to their appearance. The community is more concerned about their looks than their talent.

First impressions last and Ramsey was not the first pick by the gaming community, nor the second to portray Ellie Williams. Early set photos of the second season have made their way online and Ramsey is under fire yet again for the same reason they were attacked for the first season.

HBO’s The Last of Us broke the streak of unsuccessful video game adaptations and proved that games can be smoothly translated into other media. Besides the general audiences, even the fans of the games applauded the series to be one of the most perfect adaptations. However, the same can’t be said for the upcoming Season 2.
A still from HBO’s The Last of Us
The first season’s success led the makers to immediately announce a second season based on 2020’s The Last of Us Part II. As Season 2 is presently in development, several images from the set have been leaked, and unfortunately, the fans are not happy about them.
The leaked photos gave us a look into the new appearance of Bella Ramsey’s Ellie, and their look has left the fans concerned. The fans complain that Ramsey would be playing a 19-year-old Eliie in the upcoming season,...

Cameras have been rolling on The Last of Us season 2 for a while now, and we finally have some semi-decent set photos. These offer fans a first look at Bella Ramsey's Ellie with her girlfriend, Dina (played by Madame Web and Superman star Isabela Merced).
We're going to tread carefully here for fear of spoilers, but those of you who have played The Last of Us Part II video game will likely be able to figure out where in the season this sequence likely takes place.
As you can see below, Ellie and Dina are on horseback and outside the Weston's Pharmacy building.
While some fans have argued that Ramsey still looks too young, she's now 20 and it's been close to two years since shooting wrapped on season 1. These episodes will provide Ramsey with a lot of heavy material to seek her teeth into, though we're confident the Game of Thrones...

The Last of Us emerged as one of the most popular and critically acclaimed shows of 2023. Starring Pedro Pascal in the lead role, the series set a new gold standard for video game adaptations. It also won Pascal his first Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series but he failed to win in the category.

However, one of the most gut-wrenchingly emotional scenes from the show’s sixth episode was improvised by Pascal. During a podcast appearance, showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann peeled the cover on the emotional scene and Pascal’s improvisation while proving why he should have won an Emmy for the performance.

Neil Druckmann truly changed the gaming industry with his first game as a director. That first game was none other than The Last of Us. With this third-person survival horror, he changed people’s perspectives on video games. Its heartfelt story and relatable characters make sure that players have a deep connection with the characters by the time it ends.
He then took things a step further with a brand-new HBO series based on the same game. Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin was also a part of that series. They both served as writers and creators, while Neil Druckmann also directed an episode or two. It’s as if his brilliance knows no bounds; maybe that’s why people are waiting to see where he takes this series next. But it might be futile for the developer, Naughty Dog, in many ways.

Missing Pedro Pascal already? We completely understand you – after 2023 literally became the year of big releases with the actor, 2024 seems painfully empty without him.
That's why we've collected the most anticipated projects with Pedro Pascal.
1. Gladiator II
Release Date: November 22, 2024
The filming of the sequel to Ridley Scott's cult epic, Gladiator II, was frozen due to the strikes, but now work on the set has been successfully completed.
Talk of a sequel circulated throughout Hollywood for more than twenty years after the first film's successful release, suggesting almost biblical and fantastic tales of battles in the afterlife.
As a result, Gladiator II moderated its ambitions: Lucius, the nephew of Commodus, played by Joaquin Phoenix in the first film, will be at the center of the story. As a boy, he was inspired by the exploits of the gladiator Maximus in the arena and will apparently follow in the footsteps of Russell Crowe’s character.

David Hemingson’s The Holdovers at Focus Features won original screenplay and Cord Jefferson’s Oscar-winning American Fiction from Amazon MGM Studios took adapted honours at the strike-delayed Writers Guild Awards on Sunday.
This was a second major adapted screenplay award in relatively short order for Jefferson after last month’s Oscar win.
The Holdovers prevailed in an original screenplay category that included Barbie and May December, but not the Oscar winner Anatomy Of A Fall, rendered ineligible here because it was not produced under a Writers Guild of America (WGA) contract.
The best documentary screenplay award went to Errol Morris for The Pigeon Tunnel.

With the 2024 Oscars and the 2023 Emmys firmly in the rearview mirror, the film and TV awards calendar is all but ready to return to normalcy after last years Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA strikes disrupted the first half of award season. The last major event to be impacted by the altered schedule is today’s WGA Awards, which took place in an unusual post-Oscars slot after the strikes forced the guild to delay its voting process. As most of Hollywood looks ahead to the 2024 film and TV slate, today’s concurrent ceremonies in Los Angeles’ Hollywood Palladium and New York City’s Edison Ballroom gave award watchers one last chance to celebrate the best screenwriting of 2023.

The David Hemingson-scripted Alexander Payne dramedy The Holdovers and Cord Jefferson’s American Fiction were the big film winners at the strike-delayed 2024 Writers Guild Awards, which were handed out Sunday in Los Angeles and New York.
Jefferson — who also was honored with the WGA West’s Paul Selvin Award — followed his Oscar win for Adapted Screenplay as the WGA’s weird, wild and elongated Awards season wrapped with simultaneous ceremonies on both coasts. Hemingson scored a modicum of revenge for losing the Original Screenplay Academy Award to Justine Triet and Arthur Harari for Anatomy of a Fall.
The latter script, however, wasn’t eligible for a Writers Guild Award. That’s because, unlike other guilds, the WGA deems ineligible any scripts for movies not produced under its Minimum Basic Agreement or a bona fide collective bargaining agreement with various affiliated countries.
Later, the Documentary prize went to Errol Morris...

HBO's "The Last of Us" doesn't need much improvisation. The heart-pounding series from Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann pulls plenty of its best lines from the video game on which it's based, and when writers do make changes, they tend to be for the better. Series cinematographer Eben Bolter even described the show's Emmy-winning third episode screenplay to /Film as a "golden script" and "an instruction manual for greatness." It sounds like improv moments were few and far between during the filming of the first season, but Pedro Pascal did manage to ad lib a line that made one key moment stronger.

Eleven years have gone by since the release of a new entry in the Scary Movie horror parody series – but the franchise isn’t going to remain dormant for much longer. Deadline reports that the Miramax label at Paramount, which is now operating under new boss Jonathan Glickman, has given the greenlight to a new Scary Movie sequel, with the plan being to get the film into theatres sometime in 2025. "Borderlands" is one of the most popular video game franchises of the 2000s. Now, it's becoming a movie, with Lionsgate hoping to turn it into a franchise for the big screen. Directed by Eli Roth, this video game adaptation has been in the works for a long, long time, but it's finally hitting theaters this summer. That being the case, the studio brought some new footage from the film to this year's CinemaCon in Las Vegas, and I was on hand to see what Roth cooked up.
One thing the movie has going for it is a stellar A-list cast led by Cate Blanchett ("Thor: Ragnarok") as Lilith. The ensemble also includes Jack Black ("The Super Mario Bros. Movie"), Kevin Hart ("Lift"), Jamie Lee Curtis ("Halloween"), Ariana Greenblatt ("Barbie"), Florian Munteanu ("Creed II"), and Edgar Ramirez ("Yes Day"). The Last of Us franchise has really grown over the years; this is in no small part thanks to the HBO series that was released in 2023. The first game told the story of an unbreakable relationship between a man and a girl whom he saw as his daughter. This relationship developed over time as they traveled through a broken world full of scary obstacles.
This game eventually got a sequel that took an instant reverse turn from what the original did. Instead of telling the story of finding humanity in a rotten world, this game showed the effects of one’s actions. A bloodier and more heartbreaking sequel to one of the best-told stories ever told in a video game. And now it appears a sequel will be released someday, which would feature a location that fans heard of but never saw in The Last of Us Part 2.

‘Loki’ Episode ‘Glorious Purpose’ Nominated for Best Dramatic Presentation Amongst Strong Contenders
Last year, Marvel Studios faced criticism and low box office numbers with two out of three major projects flopping both financially and critically. However, ‘Loki’ came back strong with its second season, earning praise from fans and critics alike as one of MCU’s best recent releases.

‘Loki’ Episode ‘Glorious Purpose’ Nominated for Best Dramatic Presentation Against Tough Competition
Marvel Studios faced fan backlash and record low-box office results last year, with 2 out of 3 major projects failing both when it comes to earnings and critical reception, but not all was bad. ‘Loki’ returned with the second season and the show was highly praised by fans and critics alike, being the best project that the MCU has released in recent time.
The show was not only extremely enjoyable and ended Loki’s character development on a high note, it also set up some pretty grand implications for the continuation of the Multiverse Saga. It’s no wonder then that the show has been nominated for several awards, including this year’s Hugo award. The Hugo Awards are prestigious awards given annually for the best science fiction or fantasy works and achievements. For years, fans have been asking for a follow-up to the fifth “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie, “Dead Men Tell No Tales,” and while the news surrounding it has come and gone – remember the one that Margot Robbie would have helmed? – there’s now a clear answer for all those who want to hit the high seas once more.
Sadly, it won’t be with the same characters that we’ve grown to know and love, but it will hopefully not affect our happiness levels as we enjoy the new adventures.
Filming For A “Pirates of the Caribbean” Reboot Set To Begin Next Year With Completed Script
No, this is not one of those false alarms, and while we know shows have been cancelled right after a script has been completed and characters even announced, there’s a better chance of this happening as studio execs are said to be enthusiastic about the new project.

Seven years since the last Pirates of the Caribbean movie was released in theaters, and there still is no clear path for any sequels.
ComicBook.com spoke to producer Jerry Bruckheimer about his new film, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, and asked about the future of a couple of his franchises: Top Gun and Pirates of the Caribbean.
Bruckheimer mentioned that Pirates is going to be a reboot.
“You don’t know how they come together. You just don’t know. Because with Top Gun, you have an actor who is iconic and brilliant. And how many movies he does before he does Top Gun, I can’t tell you. But we’re gonna reboot Pirates, so that is easier to put together because you don’t have to wait for certain actors.”
The Last of Us creator Craig Mazin worked on a story for the new Pirates with original screenwriter Ted Elliot.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer continues to tease another Pirates project, with the latest update confirming that a reboot featuring a young, new cast is definitely happening.
It’s been the best part of four years since we first heard that Disney had plans to make two very different Pirates Of The Caribbean movies to continue the popular swashbuckling series that already boasts six films. The plans back in 2020 were to develop a female-led version which would be headlined by Margot Robbie alongside another film with an all-new cast. The latter version was based on a script penned by Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin and Ted Elliott, the writer behind the original Pirates films.
Then in 2022, reports surfaced to suggest that the Margot Robbie-led version had been abandoned with Robbie herself stating that Disney ‘didn’t want to do it.’ However, series producer Jerry Bruckheimer popped up not long afterwards to suggest that...

Jerry Bruckheimer revealed that the next installment of Pirates of the Caribbean will be a reboot of the beloved franchise.
The legendary producer said in a recent interview with ComicBook.com that they’re working on a Pirates of the Caribbean sequel as well as Top Gun 3, but noted that the latter is going to take longer to develop since it involves coordinating schedules with several A-list actors, such as Tom Cruise, Miles Teller and Glen Powell.
“You don’t know how they come together. You just don’t know,” Bruckheimer said. “Because with Top Gun you have an actor who is iconic and brilliant. And how many movies he does before he does Top Gun, I can’t tell you. But we’re gonna reboot Pirates, so that is easier to put together because you don’t have to wait for certain actors.”

“It’s hard to tell,” Bruckheimer said. “You don’t know. You really don’t know. You don’t know how they come together. You just don’t know. Because with ‘Top Gun’ you have an actor who is iconic and brilliant. And how many movies he does before he does ‘Top Gun,’ I can’t tell you. But we’re gonna reboot ‘Pirates,’ so that is easier to put together because you don’t have to wait for certain actors.”
