One Tree Hill star Sophia Bush has landed a lead opposite Don Johnson on ABC’s comedy pilot Southern Discomfort as the future of the veteran CW drama hangs in the balance. In other pilot castings, Ben Browder, repped by Gersh and Hank McCann, rounds out the series regular cast of the CW’s Hellcats. Discomfort centers on a father (Johnson) whose life is turned upside down when his grown kids move back in with him. As seems to happen quite often in this crazy business we report on, two projects based on the same idea are about to battle it out for cinematic supremacy. This time the theme is "paradise", or more accurately, John Milton's Paradise Lost.
Back in December, 2008, we heard some early details from Scott (The Exorcism of Emily Rose) Derrickson about his plans to adapt Paradise Lost with Guillermo del Toro for Legendary Pictures and Warner Brothers based on a script by Stu Hazeldine. (In fact, the article was the Story of the Week in my December 6-12, 2008, Weekly Wrap-Up).
Now the news has come down via THR that veteran producer Martin (The Lion in Winter, The Possession of Joel Delaney) Poll has joined with Granite Entertainment and Stv Networks to mount an indie version of Paradise Lost that has been gestating for nearly four decades and could enter production as early as the summer.

Veteran producer Martin Poll has joined with Granite Entertainment and Stv Networks to mount an indie version of "Paradise" that has been gestating for nearly four decades and could enter production as early as the summer. If so, it could find itself going up against a competing version of "Paradise" that Legendary Pictures and Vincent Newman Entertainment have been developing for several years.
Poll began pitching a film version of Milton's epic poem in the late '60s.
Although he couldn't interest a studio at the time to make a movie about Satan's fall from grace, his temptation of Adam and Eve and the first couple's subsequent banishment from the Garden of Eden, Poll began working with British author and screenwriter John Collier, who wrote a screenplay,...
