Olivia Rodrigo’s “Sour” has quickly become one of the defining albums of the 2020s. The acclaimed break-up record introduced the world to a young singer-songwriter poised to be a force in popular music for the remainder of the decade, at the very least. And it was not only acclaimed, it also became the second biggest album of 2021 in the United States and produced four top-10 hits. As such, when Grammy nominations came around, it was to the surprise of no one that Rodrigo got seven, pretty much maxing out her possible nominations, and becoming just the 13th artist to earn bids in every general field category in one year. Everyone with common sense is likely predicting a win for Rodrigo for Best New Artist; as of this writing she’s leading the Gold Derby odds in that category by a very, very considerable margin. But how likely is it...

We all love a good story. And a behind-the-scenes story can be even better than the story told in the book itself. “Heroic editor spends years of his life trying to assemble a massive, global collection with contributions by the best in the field, but the book never sees the light of day” is a great story. That’s the story Bob Levin told in a 2009 issue of The Comics Journal, about Michel Choquette and his massive book The Someday Funnies, which was almost published in the 1970s, and how all of the pages of completed art were still in storage, never seen but ready to go at a moment’s notice.
That was a wonderful story, and it led to the actual publication of The Someday Funnies in 2011, with those hundred-and-fifty pages of 1970s comics displayed on oversized pages and introduced with commentary by comics historian and critics Robert...

William Devane Respects The Text
By
Alex Simon
Few actors ruled the big and small screen with such vigor during the 1970s as William Devane. Using his classically handsome Irish features to embody parts best described as “Ivy League menace,” Devane hasn’t stopped working since making his film debut in 1967. McCabe & Mrs. Miller, The Missiles of October, Marathon Man, Family Plot, Rolling Thunder, Yanks and Testament are just a few of the classic titles to which Devane brought his unique brand of charisma. The ‘80s saw him dominating the airwaves on the primetime soap Knots Landing as the nefarious Gregory Sumner, with dozens more memorable turns to follow.
Devane lends his gravitas to the new indie thriller We Gotta Get Out of This Place, a nifty neo-noir about a group of Texas teens (Mackenzie Davis, Logan Huffman, Jeremy Allen White) from a dead-end town who find themselves over their...

You may have seen Obama impersonator Reggie Brown before. The guy has been working steadily for the last four years and no doubt he's a happy man, since, in November, he was guaranteed four more years of work. And he does eerily look like the President, but in a kind of distorted, fun house mirror sort of way. And he better enjoy it while he can, since, in four years, he'll be the next generation's Vaughn Meader. (You kids out there who have no idea who I'm referring to, look him up for yourself. I don't need to explain everything to you. Learn something about the past.). Anyway, Brown has now begun to star in a series of Japanesse TV comercials for Gulliver,...

The funnyman has a very entertaining part in the upcoming "Paul," not to mention wealth of promising projects in development that he was more than happy to talk about including "Vaughn Meader," "Henchmen" and "The Hand Job." Two days ago, we ran a story in which Bill Hader revealed two projects he has coming up. One’s the Bourne-style comedy Henchman, and the other a biopic of comedian Vaughn Meader, to have the same name as the man. That same story said that it would be written by Robert Siegel, the scribe responsible for The Wrestler and Big Fan, while a choice for a director wasn’t entirely clear.
Turns out that’s not accurate, though. The Playlist, who talked to Hader, made a mistake regarding who’d be writing and directing. Turns out that Rob Siegel is in fact directing, while scripting duties are in the hands of Alexander Woo, who’s currently a co-executive producer on True Blood. There’s not much else to report here, so I’ll just provide another brief video of Meader as JFK, as it’s fairly humorous. For more information on the film,...

Earlier this week we reported on a film project that Saturday Night Live star Bill Hader is set to star in called Vaughn Meader. The movie is set up on at Ben Stiller‘s production company Red Hour Films. The movie is a dark comedy that's based on the life of American comedian and impersonator Vaughn Meader who became famous for spoofing JFK and then his saw his career fall apart after the president's assassination.
It was previously reported that the script was written by Rob Siegel who penned Darren Aronofksy‘s The Wrestler and wrote and directed Big Fan starring Patton Oswalt, but now a new report has come out saying that the script was actually written by True Blood co-exec producer Alexander Woo, and Siegel is attached to direct the movie. The other day we told you about Vaughn Meader, a film that is being developed as a star vehicle [1] for Bill Hader. It isn't a big broad studio comedy, however. The actor would play real-life comedian and impersonator Vaughn Meader, who built a career out of a JFK impression that was enjoyed by huge audiences -- the President even loved it -- and then saw that career disappear virtually overnight when Kennedy was assassinated in 1963. Rob Siegel was said to be involved, and the script sounds as if it has some of the key elements of sweetness and darkness that characterized his last two big scripts, The Wrestler and Big Fan. Now we know that he will also direct Vaughn Meader, which makes the movie even more promising. Big Fan was Mr. Siegel's directorial debut and the first film to feature comedian Patton Oswalt in a leading dramatic role.

Bill Hader has a whole hell of a lot going on lately. We detailed two of his upcoming projects [1] last night -- Henchmen and Vaughn Meader -- but there are more. One is The Hand Job, a film that is being spearheaded by his wife Maggie Carey. She wrote the script, which ended up on the 2009 Black List, and plans to direct with star Aubrey Plaza (Parks and Recreation, Funny People, Scott Pilgrim) as a graduating high school girl in 1993 who wants to gather some sexual experience before going off to college. There are now quite a few more actors lined up, including Alia Shawkat, Mae Whitman, Donald Glover and Andy Samberg. More details after the break. The Playlist [2] and Collider [3] both got the info, in which Bill Hader says that the script was written with Aubrey Plaza in mind. It’s about her playing an type-a, studious girl who...

In 1983, Woody Allen made a mockumentary called "Zelig" about a "human chameleon" who inserts himself into major events with the biggest celebrities through his remarkable talent for blending in with them. Bill Hader is the Zelig of contemporary comedy.
Aside from memorable turns in five of the biggest Judd Apatow movies, he's popped up in "Tropic Thunder," "Night at the Museum 2," animated fare like "Megamind," even as "The Voice" in "Scott Pilgrim," all while juggling dozens of crazy characters (and a stunningly "sane" Charlie Sheen) on Saturday Night Live. Now that's what we call "bi-winning."
It's fitting, then, that he should be developing a starring vehicle based on a Zelig of another time, celebrity impersonator Vaughn Meader, whose pitch-perfect impression of then-President John F. Kennedy led to the Grammy Award winning satire album "The First Family," only to see his career buried along with the assassinated Potus.

SNL star Bill Hader ("Superbad," "Paul") has two films in development and details recently emerged over at The Playlist.
The first, "Vaughn Meader", comes from scribe Rob Siegel ("The Wrestler," "Big Fan") which is a "dark but sweet" biopic about the American comedian and impersonator who became famous overnight for his impression of John F. Kennedy and his comedy album "The First Family" about the Kennedy clan. As soon as JFK was assassinated, so was Meader's career.
The other is "Henchman" which Shawn Levy's 21 Laps is producing. Hader and "Hot Rod" director Akiva Schaffer will rework the script for Hader to star in and Schaffer to direct. Hader explains the plot:
"The film is about two guys who don’t realize it, but they’re two henchman for like the badguy in a ‘Bourne’ movie and then they slowly figure who that they’re working for the wrong guys,...

Bill Hader will be seen next in Greg Mottola‘s sci-fi road-trip film Paul, but the actor comedian has two new projects in the pipeline. Paul premieres at SXSW this weekend and will arrive in theaters on March 18. I am excited to see this when it arrives.
The Playlist reports that Hader is working with director Akiva Schaffer and Shawn Levy‘s 21 Laps production company on a film called Henchman. The script, originally titled, Bobbie Sue, was conceived and written by Russell Sharman, Owen Egerton, and Chris Mass, who appeared on the 2008 Blacklist. Hader and Schaffer are currently rewriting the script with an eye to star and direct, respectively.
Here is what Hader had to say abou that project, which is currently looking for actors to play the other henchman:

Is Bill Hader going to be one of the next true breakout comedy stars? He's certainly one of the highlights of Greg Mottola's Paul, where he steals just about any scene in which he appears -- and does so while working opposite some great comic talent. It may be a little early for Bill Hader to really break out in Zach Galifianakis or Danny McBride style, but he's heading that direction, and now has two films in development that could offer him new ways to earn the affections of a broad audience. (As if SNL wasn't enough. But it is never enough, as so many movies have proved.) The Playlist [1] got details on both films. First is Vaughn Meader, which is set up at Ben Stiller's company and is being written by The Wrestler and Big Fan screenwriter Rob Siegel. The film is based on "American comedian and impersonator" Vaughn Meader,...

Bill Hader is, in my opinion, one of the funniest people working in entertainment today. Both his comedic tone and sense of timing make me laugh more than most anyone, or anything, in either film or television. I mean, if his SNL impersonation of John Malkovich doesn’t even remotely strike your fancy, there’s really nothing I can say.
While speaking to ThePlaylist, the actor/comedian revealed that he has two new films on the way, both of which could be departures for him.
The first of these is titled Henchman. The script is written by Owen Egerton and Chris Mass, with additional work by Hader and potential director Akiva Schaffer (The Lonely Island member, SNL director, Hot Rod). He described it with this quote:
