The Writers Guild of America has just announced the nominations for their annual awards for Best Screenplays (by writers who are guild signatories). That’s right, before you get nervous thinking that your favorite may have been left off the list, you must remember that the WGA is the group that is not all-inclusive and leaves out several of the top contenders each year due to them not being part of the guild or not following their very specific rules. For this reason, you won’t see Inside Out, The Hateful Eight, and Ex Machina in the Original Screenplay category or Room, Brooklyn, or Anomalisa in the Adapted screenplay category.
Taking a look at what’s left over for the nominations, we find many that were expected to make a showing, including Spotlight and Bridge of Spies for Original Screenplay, though they apparently had to sink to really low depths...

Here are a few interesting and/or noteworthy projects that were recently added to IMDbPro's database of development titles.
Good Deeds— Thandie Newton teams up with Tyler Perry in this romancer about wealthy husband-to-be who falls for a struggling single mom. Shooting begins this month in Atlanta.
Into the Beautiful— For those disappointed that a blood-sucking sequel to When Harry Met Sally isn’t actually in the works, its star Meg Ryan announced plans for a different kind of reunion. The actress plans to make her feature directorial debut with a Big Chill-like drama written by Anne Meredith. Wendy Finerman produces.
Maggie— Timur Bekmambetov nabbed the rights to develop this zombie project written by NASA satellite programmer, John Scott 3, with VFX guru Henry Hobson on board to direct.
To Catch a Thief— Alfred Hitchcock’s 1955 classic starring Cary Grant and Grace Kelly is getting the reboot treatment courtesy of Paramount Pictures and Good Luck Chuck scribe Josh Stolberg. I have no words.
Untitled Dusty Springfield Biopic— “Wishin’ and Hopin’” isn’t just a popular tune by the late pop artist, Dusty Springfield: it’s Hollywood’s mantra for making a movie about her life story. So far separate attempts from Nicole Kidman and Glee’s Kristen Chenowith have stalled. This UK production from Fairbanks Productions hopes to fare better with an adaptation of Sharon Davis’ book “A Girl Called Dusty.”
If you know of something in active development, you can submit it via our online submission form.

No-one can be entirely sure how, when or why things went wrong for Meg Ryan; however, since 1998’s often parodied You’ve Got Mail in which she and Tom Hanks failed to relive the magic of the identically themed- but infinitely better written- Sleepless in Seattle, her output has degraded to the point of insignificance. For over ten years, Ryan has produced an endless stream of indistinct, fluffy, saccharine romantic comedies, coupled with the occasional generic aberration to which absolutely no one paid attention.
So after years of embarrassment- coupled with international mockery for her performance on Parkinson and increasing resemblance to Mickey Rourke- at her own irrelevance in front of the camera, she is set to make her debut behind it with Into The Beautiful.

Do you remember the last movie you saw with Meg Ryan in it? I certainly don’t. She probably realizes that her career as an actress has slowed down considerably since her peak in the late 80′s/early 90′s, so she’s taking a path that could get her name on another big movie: directing.
A story at Variety says that the actress is directing Into the Beautiful, a dramedy described as a “contemporary Big Chill with longtime friends reconnecting,” and is based off a script by Anne Meredith. The plan is to begin shooting this September in New York State, and casting will begin soon; there’s no plans for director Ryan to also be involved in front of the camera.
Producer Wendy Finerman (Forrest Gump) said the following about the film:

Though her acting career has taken a turn for the worse over the past decade, it looks Meg Ryan is going to try to find success behind the camera. Variety reports the Sleepless in Seattle and You've Got Mail star is set to make her feature directorial debut with Into the Beautiful a comedic drama from writer Anne Meredith. The project is described as a contemporary version of The Big Chill (though it's not a remake) with the story following longtime friends reconnecting after years apart. Apparently the film is set to start shooting in September in New York, and although she's directing, it doesn't sound like Ryan will be in front of the camera. I'm kind of a sucker for these kind of films. I love The Big Chill (but I hated Grown Ups), and these kind of stories just make me think about reconnecting with old friends years...

Meg Ryan will be making her directorial debut with Into The Beautiful, Variety is reporting.
The film is to be a comedy-drama, scripted by Anne Meredith, a relatively little-known writer, who was part of the team that wrote Rated X, the Emilio Estevez-directed TV movie about the notorious Mitchell Brothers, starring Estevez and his brother Charlie Sheen in the leading roles.
Ryan, who is approaching the big 50 mark this year with her birthday in November, has had a wealth of experience in comedy-dramas throughout her career, after her leading role in When Harry Met Sally… brought her international recognition back in 1989. Now, she has decided to step behind the camera lens for the first time, and I have to admit, I’m quite looking forward to seeing how this film turns out. Ryan’s expertise in the genre will almost certainly give her a great vantage point from which to start her directorial career.

I can't help but be a little sad when I think of Meg Ryan, the cute girl that starred in one of my favorite contemporary romantic comedies, You've Got Mail (What? I'm man enough to admit it.), but then went on to a plastic surgery nightmare only to return and reveal everything in the little-seen, not to mention terrible, In the Cut. Since then her track record hasn't improved so instead of stepping in front of the camera again she's stepping behind it.
Variety reports Ryan is set to make her feature directing debut on Into the Beautiful from a Anne Meredith (Cavedweller) script. The film is described as a contemporary Big Chill with longtime friends reconnecting.
Producer Wendy Finerman told Variety, "I'm often drawn to pictures that make you laugh and cry... I think this is the perfect project for Meg to bring to life. She's poignant and funny and heartfelt.

It's been a long, long time since Meg Ryan was the rom-com queen. These days, the field is more or less led by Kate Hudson, Katherine Heigl and Drew Barrymore though none quite have the charm she did back in the day. Meg Ryan is stepping behind the camera for the first time.
According to Variety, the Hollywood star will make her directorial debut with Into the Beautiful, a story about friends who reunite after a long time apart.
The script was written by Anne Meredith and the film is being produced by the team behind The Devil Wears Prada.
Ryan was one of Hollywood’s biggest leading actresses in the 1990s with hits such as When Harry Met Sally and Sleepless in Seattle. Her career has since dwindled after a string of poorly reviewed films, including a remake of The Women in 2008.
Her next acting role will be in Lives of the Saints, an ensemble drama also starring John Lithgow, 50 Cent and Kat Dennings.
According to Total Film, Ryan has no plans to star in Into the Beautiful. There is no word on who will star in the project.

Meg Ryan used to be America's pixie princess of romantic comedy, Tom Hanks' go-to onscreen gal, the yin to our yang, the Sally to our Harry, etc etc. Then she vanished. (Okay, so she didn't Bobby Fischer-level vanish, but her career did make like a ship in the Bermuda Triangle.)
The "Sleepless in Seattle" actress's last role to gross dollar-one at the box office was 2001's "Kate & Leopold," and then the whole "Russell Crowe-gate" thing happened, along with "Meg Ryan's Face-gate." Actor will follow Drew Barrymore, Jodie Foster and Barbra Streisand behind the camera for new comedy-drama
Meg Ryan is to follow in the footsteps of Drew Barrymore, Jodie Foster and Barbra Streisand and join the ranks of actors-turned-directors.

Somehow, 2010-2011 is going to go down as a time period when finding a director for Pride and Prejudice and Zombies turned into a massive undertaking. David O. Russell was going to make the film, but he walked. Many others were considered, then Mike White was hired, then he left, too. Craig Gillespie (Lars and the Real Girl, the upcoming Fright Night remake) has been said to be the top choice [1] to be director #3, then for a minute it looked like Pp&Z author Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg might co-direct. But now Deadline [2] says Craig Gillespie is getting the job after all. The basic project (zombies are inserted into the text of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice) doesn't sound appealing at all, but I guess I can see why the idea of making a period drama with that weird horror overtone might be of interest to a director. It's...
