MGM+ and Prime Video have ordered a series based on Marvel’s “Spider-Man Noir” comic. But now we know that the show will star Nicolas Cage. While the show was already in development, Amazon announced Cage ahead of the upfront presentation today.
Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios produce the series for Amazon’s MGM+ service. It will initially be released on MGM+ but will eventually move to Amazon’s Prime Video service.
“Noir” is being developed by Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot, who are listed as the showrunners and executive producers. Phil Lord, Christopher Miller and Amy Pascal who were behind “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” will also be executive producers on the project.
Harry Badbeer will be directing and executive producing the show’s first two episodes.
“Noir” is based on the alternate-universe Spider-Man comic by Marvel called “Spider-Man Noir.” The story takes place in the 1930s, after the Great Depression.

Over a year ago, news surfaced that Amazon would be producing a live-action series centered around Spider-Man Noir, a superhero situated in 1930s New York City. Departing from the traditional Spider-Man narrative, this show will spotlight an older, more seasoned character distinct from Peter Parker. Developed by Oren Uziel, the series will carve its own path within the Marvel universe, with Uziel serving as both writer and executive producer.
The project has attracted notable industry figures, including producers Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal. Uziel, recognized for his work on films like ’22 Jump Street’ and the 2021 ‘Mortal Kombat,’ brings his expertise to the endeavor. This series is part of Amazon’s lineup of character-driven Marvel projects, joining the ranks of ‘Silk: Spider Society.’
Today, it has been officially confirmed that Nicholas Cage will indeed portray Spider-Man Noir in the upcoming show, confirming months of speculation.

More than a year ago we learned that Amazon is set to produce a live-action series centered around Spider-Man Noir, a superhero set in 1930s New York City. Unlike the traditional Spider-Man story, this series will focus on an older, more weathered character, quite different from Peter Parker. Developed by Oren Uziel, the show will have its own path within the Marvel universe, with Uziel serving as both writer and executive producer.
The project so far involves notable names from the industry, including producers Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal. Uziel, known for his work on films such as ’22 Jump Street’ and the 2021 Mortal Kombat,’ brings his talents to the table. Spider-Man Noir may have spent the past few years off somewhere staring at matches as they burn, but the hilariously melodramatic Spider-Verse character played by Nicolas Cage will officially return in a new show on MGM+ and Amazon's Prime Video, according to Variety. What's wilder: the show will be live action.
The new show will be called "Noir," and this isn't the first time we've heard about it: the show was first announced back in February 2023, but Cage's casting wasn't confirmed at that time. In fact, a month earlier the beloved actor actually told ScreenRant that he wasn't going to be included in "Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse," a decision he seemed bummed about. "You'd have to ask Sony," he told the outlet when asked about the future of his character. "No one's spoken to me about that ... I wish they would. I love Spider-Man Noir, too. I think that's a great character.

Put on your fedora and lightly billowing cloak, and listen to what those Spidey-senses are telling you: could it possibly be true? Are we really getting a live-action adaptation of Spider-Man Noir, with none other than Nicolas Cage stepping up to solve early 20th Century mysteries with bonus Spider-powers? Somehow, we’ve ended up in the timeline where this is, in fact, real. Prime Video is stepping up to produce Noir, a live-action Spider-Man Noir series – and Cage is officially taking on the role.
Cage famously voiced Spider-Man Noir to incredible effect in animated feature Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, and the prospect of seeing him inhabit the role physically too is a tantalising one. Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot are set to act as showrunners, while Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal are all on board as producers. Nicolas Cage is going back into the Spider-Verse. Amazon, during its first-ever upfront presentation, announced that Cage will star in “Noir,” the live-action series based on the Spider-Man Noir comic series from Marvel.
Way back in early 2023, IndieWire reported that Amazon was in development on a live-action series inspired by the Spider-Man Noir character, who Cage famously portrayed in the animated “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” as a grizzled, tortured, black-and-white noir gumshoe who also happened to be a superhero bitten by a radioactive spider. But no cast had been confirmed for the live-action show, and Amazon surprised advertisers by revealing that Cage would step back into the role, making it the first time he’s done a TV series since he filmed a pilot at the start of his career.

Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster tournament is back. While studios during Covid wildly embraced the theatrical day-and-date model when cinemas were closed, they soon realized there’s nothing more profitable than a theatrical release and the downstreams that come with it. If anything, theatrical is the advertisement for a movie’s longevity in subsequent home entertainment windows. Entering the conversation in 2023 were the streamers, such as Apple, who have also realized the necessity of theatrical to eventize their movies. The financial data pulled together here for Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster Tournament is culled by seasoned and trusted sources.

Stunt work is all about selling an illusion. When the medium of cinema was first invented, it was initially marketed and thought of as something akin to a sideshow attraction, a wondrous magic trick where a series of pictures put next to each other and illuminated in rapid succession gave the illusion of movement. After this initial novelty gave way to artists utilizing the medium to tell stories, the craftspeople making movies realized that the concept of illusion extended to every aspect of filmmaking.
Where theatre was traditionally bound to a stage or perhaps a circus tent, the movies could expand the canvas of what could be done physically — if cameras could capture it, it could be performed. It's no surprise, then, that films saw people like Buster Keaton, Harold Lloyd, and others push the boundaries of physicality and feats of derring-do in the cinema.

Channing Tatum, a natural athlete who found that college was not to his liking, moved to Tampa in his teens to work construction and found an outside gig as a male stripper at night. To Tatum’s credit, he never denied his stripping gig but instead turned it into artistic gold (years after he became an actor) with a hit franchise you may have heard about: “Magic Mike” (2012), “Magic Mike Xxl” (2015) and “Magic Mike’s Last Dance” (2023).

It looks like Ryan Gosling is going back to space. Deadline reports that the “Barbie” and “The Fall Guy” actor will star in Phil Lord & Christopher Miller‘s upcoming adaptation of “Project Hail Mary” at Amazon MGM. And if Lord & Miller’s film is anything like Hollywood’s last Andy Weir adaptation, 2015’s “The Martian,” then “Project Hail Mary” will be a homerun for all involved.

Exclusive: Amazon MGM Studios has begun the countdown for Project Hail Mary, its Ryan Gosling-starring, Phil Lord- and Christopher Miller-directed space adventure, which has been given a March 20, 2026 release date. No other wide entries are on that weekend.
Producers are Amy Pascal, Gosling, Lord, Miller, Aditya Sood, Rachel O’Connor and Andy Weir.
The movie, filmed for Imax, is based on Weir’s (The Martian) novel and set in the near future. Gosling plays Ryland Grace, a schoolteacher-turned-astronaut who wakes up from a coma, alone, on a space station with no memory of who he is or his mission. His memory returns in bursts and he pieces together that he was sent to the Tau Ceti solar system, 12 light-years from Earth, to reverse the impact of a space event that had already hurled our planet into the early stages of an Ice Age. While Amazon MGM Studios didn’t take the stage at CinemaCon, they did meet with exhibitors and key press to strut their future theatrical slate, in particular they showed off ten minutes of the Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans’ movie Red One. While we agree to keep mum about the details of the Santa Claus rescue movie, let’s just say the originally conceived for Prime Video title is definitely meant for theatrical, which is where it’s going on Nov. 15; the only wide release currently on that weekend.
Let’s just say that Red One is a fire-breathing Christmas action movie that completely reinvents the holiday genre. There hasn’t been a mass appealing Christmas tentpole in six years, the last being Illumination/Universal’s The Grinch which made over a half billion worldwide. Over a year ago, news surfaced that Amazon is working on a live-action series focused on Spider-Man Noir, a superhero based in 1930s New York City. Unlike the usual Spider-Man tales, this series will spotlight an older, more seasoned character distinct from Peter Parker. Developed by Oren Uziel, the show will carve its own path within the Marvel universe, with Uziel serving as both writer and executive producer.
The project has attracted attention from industry veterans, including producers Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal. With Uziel’s credentials from films like “22 Jump Street” and 2021’s “Mortal Kombat,” the series adds promising talent. This initiative falls in line with Amazon’s Marvel character-focused projects, such as “Silk: Spider Society.”
Recently, we reported Nicolas Cage’s interest in portraying Spider-Man Noir. In a recent interview with Collider at SXSW, the acclaimed actor confirmed his interest:
Well, I can say that we have been talking.

To say that Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was great would be a major understatement, as it greatly impacted how major studios perceived 3D animation. Following its impeccable quality, accompanied by a great story, arguably the best of all Spider-Man features. the Shameik Moore-led film was deservedly awarded the Oscar for Best Animated Feature.
And with its sequel, Across the Spider-Verse, being on par with the first one, it seemed like another Academy win awaited the IP, but it fell inches short of Hayao Miyazaki’s The Boy and the Heron. Reacting to this loss, lead star Moore took to social media to share a one-word response “Robbed”, which landed him in hot waters, and the actor has finally broken his silence amidst the backlash.

It had been more than two decades since Hayao Miyazaki won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature, having first taken home gold with 2002’s Spirited Away. Until this year, he only saw just two more nominations, with Howl’s Moving Castle and The Wind Rises losing out to Wallace & Gromit and Elsa & Anna. But this past weekend, at 83, Miyazaki once again came out victorious, edging out the likes of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and Pixar’s Elemental. While many of us cheered the achievement, there was one sourpuss who thought the movie he starred in was “robbed”.
Shameik Moore, who voiced Miles Morales / Spider-Man in Across the Spider-Verse, took to social media on the night of the Academy Awards to say that his movie was “*robbed”, prompting followers to call out the arrogance of the comment. As such, Moore addressed the response soon after, admitting he was bitter. “Respect to the winners.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse star Shameik Moore has apologized for his reaction to the film’s loss at the 2024 Oscars.
On Sunday night, the Into the Spider-Verse sequel lost to Hayao Miyazaki’s The Boy and the Heron in the best animated feature film category. Moore, who voices Miles Morales (aka Spider-Man) in the franchise, immediately took to X (formerly known as Twitter), where he posted that the film was “robbed.”
He received many replies that noted that the Sony animated movie lost to a critically acclaimed film made by a “legend.” Other comments echoed those remarks, asking Moore to respect Miyazaki’s work.
Minutes after seeing the replies, Moore admitted he agreed he should’ve been more graceful on social media. “Respect to the winners. It’s true, I’m definitely a sore loser, but we didn’t lose, Spiderverse has impacted Alot of lives, we may not...

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is the sequel to the Oscar-winning flick, Into the Spider-Verse. While the sequel was nominated also nominated for Best Animated Film, it unfortunately lost to a surprising movie, Hayao Miyazaki’s The Boy and the Heron.

Hayao Miyazaki's "The Boy and the Heron" has won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Like when his film "Spirited Away" took home the Best Animated Feature Oscar in 2003, Miyazaki himself wasn't there to accept the award in person tonight.
This was a bit of an upset: "The Boy and the Heron" is rightfully acclaimed, but it had a worthy challenger in "Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse," which won Best Animated Feature at the 51st Annie Awards this February (the Annies are focused exclusively on animation). Christopher Miller, one of the writers and producers of "Across the Spider-Verse," took his Oscars defeat in good humor, posting on X/Twitter: "Well, if you're gonna lose, might as well lose to the Goat [greatest of all time]."

As we wind down this year’s Oscar season, we at Gold Derby are already looking forward to next year’s. Clearly, we can’t get enough. But next year’s Academy Awards season could also concern this year’s as the Oscars afterglow effect could be in full force. Actors can often garner a quick follow-up nomination after breaking through in the nominations list the year prior. Eddie Redmayne accomplished this when he followed up his 2015 Best Actor win for “The Theory of Everything” with a 2016 Best Actor bid for “The Danish Girl.” Similarly, Octavia Spencer was nominated for Best Supporting Actress two years in a row — in 2017 for “Hidden Figures” and in 2018 for “The Shape of Water.” So, which of these year’s acting nominees could return next year? Let’s take a look.
Best Actor
Bradley Cooper has an exciting project that should be out in time for next year’s Oscars.
